Chapter 132: Capturing the Alien
by 後来者Chapter 132 Capturing an Alien
"Jinsheng, let’s stay hidden and see if any of its buddies come to help," Ji An said.
"Alright."
Ji An and Gu Jinsheng's mech slowly landed hundreds of meters away, concealed behind a towering, dense tree, with the front camera aimed at the direction where the flying saucer had crashed.
Dust and rocks whipped around in the howling wind—it looked like a full-blown tornado. A dark whirlwind tore through the area, carrying sand and stones as it howled into the distance.
Once the dust settled, they finally got a clear look.
The saucer was disc-shaped and enormous, with an estimated diameter of about nine to ten meters.
It was surrounded by a ring of multicolored lights, now damaged—some still flickering, others dead, scattered haphazardly.
The flying saucer remained motionless, but Gu Jinsheng and Ji An were patient. Even with no movement, neither of them approached to investigate.
After who knows how long, a pair of emaciated hands slowly emerged from the crater left by the saucer's impact.
The hands were nothing but skin and bones, the flesh tightly clinging to the skeletal structure. Through the screen, they could even see the grooves and ridges of its bones.
Next, a head peeked out—sunken cheeks devoid of muscle, with large, bulging eyes that looked disproportionately large compared to the other facial features, like saucers.
A classic depiction of an alien from movies.
The alien crawled out of the crater, clutching its chest with its long, bony fingers as if in great discomfort. It staggered forward, each step appearing agonizing, like it was badly hurt.
The alien wasn't tall—even standing straight, it’d barely hit three feet.
"This alien is a juvenile. Did we just bag an alien kid?" Ji An remarked. "Though their appearance is exactly like in the movies."
"Hold up—let’s see if backup shows," Gu Jinsheng said, wanting to see if any companions would come to assist.
The small alien stumbled toward the cover of a large tree, like it thought it was safe at last. It let its guard down, slumping against the tree, exhausted.
Gu Jinsheng and Ji An waited for about ten minutes, but no other aliens appeared. Meanwhile, the small alien seemed to have regained some strength. Clutching its chest, it stood up and continued forward.
"Let's go. No one’s coming for it, and even if there is, it won't arrive anytime soon," Ji An suggested.
Gu Jinsheng steered the mech closer to the small alien. The creature was alert—at the slightest sound, it scrambled into the underbrush. But its injuries slowed it down, and Gu Jinsheng easily captured it with the mech.
"That’s it? No fight?" Both Ji An and Gu Jinsheng found it hard to believe.
"That was way too easy. It doesn't even have any weapons? Didn’t even put up a fight. I thought we'd at least have to fight intensely," Ji An said.
"I thought so too," Gu Jinsheng admitted. He tied the alien up and hauled it into the mech.
Only then did the two park the mech nearby and jump down.
The actual wreckage was way worse than what they had seen on the screen. Trees were flattened in every direction.
Ji An inspected the area and noticed signs of trees scorched from extreme heat.
The crater left by the flying saucer was dozens of meters deep. Gu Jinsheng used the mech to retrieve the saucer from the pit, noticing that the dirt inside had turned weirdly discolored.
The alien had fled in such a hurry that the saucer's door remained wide open.
Ji An and Gu Jinsheng exchanged glances. "I have robots in my storage. Let’s send a bot in to scout it out," Ji An suggested.
The flying saucer was made by aliens, and no one knew if there were any traps or defense mechanisms inside, so no one dared to recklessly enter and investigate.
"Got it."
Ji An pulled a robot from his storage, connected it to the network, programmed it, and then sent the robot inside to search.
Gu Jinsheng and Ji An's main priority wasn’t figuring out the secrets of the flying saucer—that could wait, and this wasn't the best time anyway. They were mostly checking whether there were any other aliens inside.
Ji An programmed the robot to first scan for signs of life. As soon as the robot entered the flying saucer, it began automatically searching for life signals within.
The robot could detect life signs within a hundred-meter radius, and since the alien's flying saucer was only about ten meters in diameter, it easily picked up traces of life.
The bot’s sensors lit up green as it moved toward the source of the life signal.
The robot's eyes doubled as cameras, allowing Ji An and Gu Jinsheng to clearly see the interior of the flying saucer from the outside.
"It actually found life signals—there really are other aliens inside." This caught Ji An off guard.
"This alien’s got no loyalty. His companion is still alive, yet he didn't try to save them and just ran away first."
Ji An tutted. "Found them."
The robot located two aliens in what appeared to be a cockpit-like area. The two aliens were close to each other—one lay motionless on the ground, likely dead, while the other was dragging himself forward.
Upon seeing the robot, the alien immediately turned around, trying to duck out of sight.
It was clear that he was badly banged up, unable to stand, and his crawling was agonizingly slow.
The robot quickly subdued and tied him up.
"Bring the other alien's body back too," Ji An commanded the robot, which promptly moved toward the corpse.
The body had completely lost all signs of life—no matter what the robot did to it, there was no response.
The robot carried both aliens out of the flying saucer, and Ji An and Gu Jinsheng approached.
The surviving alien stared at Ji An and Gu Jinsheng with cloudy, lifeless eyes, giving nothing away.
Suddenly, the alien abruptly went limp. The robot's green lights dimmed, and the life signs flatlined.
"He's dead," Ji An frowned.
"He looked like he was badly injured," Gu Jinsheng said. "That might be why the other alien gave up on saving him and escaped alone."
"That's possible," Ji An agreed. "We should bail before backup shows up and we’re stuck here."
"What about the flying saucer?" Gu Jinsheng asked.
"Have Kong Zhongcheng send a mech squad to haul it back," Ji An said. Since they'd gotten their hands on it, there was no way they were leaving it behind.
Ji An and Gu Jinsheng returned to their mech and notified Kong Zhongcheng and the others.
Upon hearing that Ji An and Gu Jinsheng had actually captured aliens and even secured a flying saucer, the command center went wild.
Kong Zhongcheng and his team raced over, pumped, spotting the scene from a distance.
As they got closer and took in the sight before them, Kong Zhongcheng started hollering.
"Boss, Doc Ji, where are the aliens? Show me quick—I’ve never laid eyes on an alien before!" Kong Zhongcheng yelled.
Wan Xueying slapped him on the back, "What kind of talk is that? As if anyone has seen one before. Director Ji, where's the alien?"
"In Jinsheng's armored suit, tied up. Now's not the time for a close look. Let's get the Flying Saucer back first."
"Roger that."
Kong Zhongcheng and the others transported the Flying Saucer while Ji An and Gu Jinsheng flew back to the research institute first.
The institute had already cleared out an empty room—a special laboratory with no windows. Its walls and other structures were made of unique materials, making it nearly impossible to destroy even for high-level superpowered beings.
The two dead aliens were frozen by the researchers and pushed into another lab. The living alien was locked in the prepared empty room.
Ji An, Gu Jinsheng, and the others attempted to communicate with the alien through a neural interface.
"Hello, I'm Ji An from Earth. Can you tell us who you are?" Ji An politely inquired in Mandarin.
The alien fixed its gaze on the display with its large gray eyes but remained silent.
"Maybe the alien doesn't understand Chinese?" Kong Zhongcheng watched the alien eagerly. Had Gu Jinsheng not restrained him, he might have rushed in for a closer encounter.
Ji An repeated the question in English, but the alien still didn't respond.
"Uh, I know Russian. Should I give it a try?" A researcher timidly raised his hand.
"Go ahead," Ji An said, though he wasn't optimistic. Still, with no other options, he thought it might as well try.
The researcher asked in Russian, but the alien remained silent. Other researchers tried different languages, even some lesser-known ones, but the alien stayed quiet, just kept staring at the screen with its large eyes.
"No matter what language we use, it won't respond. Maybe it can't speak at all—might be mute?" Kong Zhongcheng speculated.
Ji An paused thoughtfully before speaking again, his voice gentle and reassuring. "Don't be afraid. We're not here to hurt you. I just want to know if there's any way we can help you. Try communicating with me—perhaps I can even assist in repairing your Flying Saucer and help you return to your planet."
From the moment Ji An spoke, the alien's protruding gray eyes locked onto him, unwavering and unnerving.
Just as Ji An thought the alien wouldn't respond, it suddenly spoke.
The sound it made was alien—a shrill, discordant sound unlike any human language or vocalization.
"What the hell was that noise? So grating!" Kong Zhongcheng exclaimed.
"Well, seems their communication system is different from ours. They don't speak Chinese, English, or any Earth language—it's an alien tongue. Even if it talks, we can't understand it," Wan Xueying shrugged.
"Xiao An? Something wrong?" Gu Jinsheng noticed Ji An's strange expression.
Ji An glanced at him. "All of you, wait outside for now. I don't need you here at the moment."
Kong Zhongcheng didn’t want to leave—he hadn't gotten his fill of the alien yet. "Just like that? No more attempts?"
Ji An replied, "The language barrier makes further attempts a waste of time. If you're curious, go check out the two alien corpses. I'll stay here alone and see if I can teach it some Chinese."
"Fine." Kong Zhongcheng and the others left, leaving only Ji An and Gu Jinsheng in the room.
Gu Jinsheng asked, "What's going on?"
Ji An's expression was odd. "I can understand what it's saying."
