Chapter 13 The Scheming Disciple and the Charming Master 13
byChapter 13: The Scheming Disciple and His Beautiful Master 13
Could this be one of those ditzy harem girls the male lead always ends up with?
Yin Shuangyue, seated up high chatting with those around her, also scowled at these words.
Her disciple had decent aptitude, but he wasn't too bright. This time, he really made a fool of himself.
Meanwhile, back inside the secret realm...
Mu Yunting: "That plan won't work. What if the fire gets out of control and burns the whole secret realm down?"
Qin Du: "Fellow Cultivator, losing is one thing, but if we wreck the secret realm, your master will blame all three of us."
For once, the two actually agreed on something.
"Besides, the Wolf Demon King is a fourth-tier fire-type beast—it might not even fear fire. We gotta come up with something else."
In the end, they decided to just fight their way out with their own skills.
Yu'er was tasked with throwing out all sorts of flashy techniques to draw the Wolf King's attention, while Qin Du and Mu Yunting focused on taking out the remaining Wolf Demons as fast as possible.
Unexpectedly, this plan actually started working—soon, the two had carved a path right through the wolf pack.
Mu Yunting quickly grabbed Yu'er and shouted to Qin Du nearby:
"Run!"
But Qin Du didn't back off at all—instead, he seemed ready to keep fighting.
"You two go on ahead! I'm going to kill this Wolf King!"
"You? By yourself?" Mu Yunting clearly didn't believe Qin Du could take down the Wolf Demon alone.
Having just escaped the wolf pack's encirclement, Mu Yunting and Yu'er hesitated, not moving.
"What about him? Are we just going to leave him in there to get swarmed by the wolves?" Yu'er, having just been through a life-or-death situation, didn't want to abandon anyone.
Mu Yunting sank into thought.
Though he and Qin Du had been rivals for as long as he could remember, he couldn't bring himself to abandon Qin Du and take Yu'er and leave.
Besides, Qin Du could've just stayed hidden in the trees and done nothing, but he still jumped in when he saw Yu'er getting attacked.
And his master had specifically told him to look out for each other inside the secret realm.
"Dammit!" Mu Yunting looked like he'd made a huge decision. "You wait here—I'm going back for him!"
Yu'er wasn't about to cause trouble at a time like this, so she stood still and nodded.
When Mu Yunting returned, he found Qin Du getting ganged up on by the Wolf King and the last two Wolf Demons.
He was banged up all over, and the ground was littered with dead wolves and demon cores.
So the guy actually had some skill after all—in such a short time, he'd already killed all but three of them.
"Why the hell did you come back?! Didn't I tell you to get out of here?" Qin Du saw Mu Yunting return and assumed he'd come to snatch his points.
Mu Yunting pursed his lips and said flatly, "Helping you..."
"I don't need your help!" Qin Du was still running his mouth, but the next second, a Wolf Demon latched onto his ankle.
Luckily, Mu Yunting reacted in time and lopped the wolf's head off with one swing.
Neither said a word, both zeroing in on the Wolf Demon King.
In their past lives, they had fought to the death—who'd have guessed that in this life, they would fight in such perfect sync?
Like old friends who'd known each other for ages, they'd already read each other's moves, and together they took down the Wolf Demon King.
Qin Du landed the final blow, driving his sword straight through the Wolf King's heart.
His points instantly surged to 300, shooting him to the top of the leaderboard.
The Wolf Demon King dissolved into a wisp of smoke before their eyes, leaving behind only a cherry-sized demon core and a delicate glass bottle on the ground.
Qin Du picked up the bottle, curious, and gave it a close look in the faint moonlight.
He recognized the demon core—cultivators could consume it for a big power boost.
But what the heck was this bottle?
Yu'er came running over and saw the battlefield still a mess. She saw the Wolf Demon King was gone, and though both of them were banged up, neither was seriously hurt—only then did she let out a sigh of relief.
"You guys actually killed the Wolf Demon King?! That's insane!"
Mu Yunting casually plucked a leaf from some random plant and wiped the blood off his sword.
Meanwhile, Qin Du picked up the bottle and asked:
"Yu'er, do you know what this is?"
"A treasure map?! Where'd you get that?!" Yu'er, being from the Xianyue Sect, knew exactly what it was.
"It dropped when we killed the Wolf Demon King."
The second Yu'er said "treasure map," Mu Yunting's eyes lit up.
He'd found his spirit sword at a treasure spot before.
Qin Du shot a quiet glance at Mu Yunting, who was sitting there pretending to polish his cast-iron sword, and cleared his throat.
He tossed the treasure bottle at him.
"Here, take it! We killed it together, so don't go telling people I ripped you off!"
Since he'd gotten the points for killing the Wolf Demon King, handing the drop to Mu Yunting seemed fair.
He wasn't the kind of guy to take advantage of people—especially not Mu Yunting.
Mu Yunting was clearly caught off guard, not expecting Qin Du to just hand him the treasure bottle.
"You're seriously giving this to me?"
"Quit yapping."
The two had fought in perfect sync, but in moments like this, they got all awkward and hesitant.
Yu'er stifled a laugh and gave both of them a little bow.
"Thank you both for saving me, fellow cultivators!"
Mu Yunting replied, "You're too kind, Miss Yu'er."
"Do you two still need more teammates? Could I join you?" Yu'er asked cautiously.
Before Mu Yunting could say anything, Qin Du jumped in, "Of course you can! Our team only has the two of us, and we're just short of people!"
He was itching to uncover the secret between Yu'er and Mu Yunting. He'd been worried he wouldn't run into her, but here she was.
How perfect was this?
During the crisis earlier, Mu Yunting had clearly shown concern, yet now his attitude seemed to have shifted.
As for Yu'er joining, Mu Yunting didn't say yes or no.
"Let's head toward the treasure spot on the map first..."
With that, he walked off deeper into the secret realm by himself.
Yu'er was baffled by Mu Yunting's sudden change in demeanor. She could only obediently trail behind Qin Du.
These two male cultivators were really weird.
She had no choice but to strike up a conversation with Qin Du, who at least seemed friendly.
"Fellow Cultivator Qin, you two are so skilled—you must've racked up a ton of points along the way!"
"Killing that Wolf Demon King just now must've added a lot. This is my first time participating, and I'm not sure if I'll make the leaderboard so my master can see."
"Of course you'll make it! Immortal Venerable Huaiqing really knows how to train his disciples!"
The two chatted and laughed the whole way, while Mu Yunting, walking ahead, grew grimmer by the minute.
Suddenly, Mu Yunting stopped dead and collapsed straight to the ground.
Luckily, the ground was soft with soil and plants, so the fall didn't hurt him.
Qin Du and Yu'er rushed over to check on him.
"Fellow Daoist Mu, Fellow Daoist Mu, are you okay?"
Yu'er shook him, but Mu Yunting didn't respond at all.
Qin Du channeled his spiritual power to light up the area and saw that Mu Yunting's face was deathly pale.
"Could he have been poisoned?"
Yu'er had some talent in the medical cultivation field, so she quickly examined every bit of exposed skin on Mu Yunting.
She stopped when she got to the barely visible wound on his right index finger.
