Chapter 50: Baby, Someone's Secretly Watching Us

The corner was a secluded spot, with dust floating in the air.

Shu Hanqing dragged Lei Zheng all the way over to this quiet spot, then let go, crossed his arms, and stared at him coldly.

His eyes looked especially bright and sharp in the dim light. Shu Hanqing asked, confused, "What were you doing in there?"

Lei Zheng stood there slouched, with a roguish, carefree look on his face, but his gaze stuck on Shu Hanqing, unable to look away. He rubbed his nose and muttered, "I was just taking a look around. Besides, that Yan Shenyun guy is up to no good—you need to be on guard."

Shu Hanqing: "...The person I should be most wary of is you."

"You told me not to make a move, but what were you doing?"

Lei Zheng looked at him, couldn't help recalling that ridiculous plot book.

    Yeah, right.

He'd been so grossed out last night he hadn't slept a wink.

The book actually said he wound up with Rong Hua. Forget thinking about it—even looking at that line felt like torture.

So he'd come to look at Shu Hanqing to cleanse his eyes.

Lei Zheng stared at Shu Hanqing, his eyes full of hurt and resentment: "Is it a crime to just want to look at you?"

Shu Hanqing's head was throbbing: "...I don't know if that thing in my head is fully gone. I feel like it's watching us any second. Stop talking nonsense in front of me."

Lei Zheng stepped forward half a step, his tall frame casting a shadow over Shu Hanqing, looking aggressive.

"Do you think they latched onto you because they thought you were easy to push around?" Lei Zheng said. "If it were me, I'd blow their whole hideout to bits."

At that, Shu Hanqing lowered his eyes and actually fell into thought.

Back then, coming back from the dead and being reborn out of nowhere—it was so bizarre and overwhelming that at first, Shu Hanqing nearly lost the ability to think.

This kind of supernatural stuff had completely stunned him. Shu Hanqing instinctively felt fear and helplessness, and by the time he snapped out of it, he was already being led around by the nose by that so-called "plot."

Shu Hanqing had always had a go-with-the-flow attitude in his bones, and when there was no way out, he'd embrace a reckless, devil-may-care resolve.

He'd even thought he was clever, planning to use Rong Hua to get back at Mu Ye and Lei Zheng.

But reality had slapped him right in the face.

Rong Hua had been forcibly stripped of his memories, turning into a cold, distant stranger. Only then did Shu Hanqing realize he'd been played for a fool by the plot the whole time.

Was it really because he was easier to push around that the plot had targeted him?

Lei Zheng noticed his expression. Frowning, he waved a hand in front of Shu Hanqing's eyes to snap him out of it: "What are you thinking about so hard?"

Shu Hanqing snapped back, a flash of chagrin and self-mockery in his eyes: "Am I really that dumb? I shouldn't have believed in that plot."

If he'd realized it sooner, if he hadn't tried to be clever, would Rong Hua have ended up with his memories wiped?

He wasn't ruthless enough at heart, not decisive enough in his methods, yet he'd still tried to play mind games and weigh pros and cons like others. In the end, he'd dragged others down and gotten himself stuck.

Late guilt and inner turmoil surged up like a tide.

Lei Zheng caught the self-blame in Shu Hanqing's eyes.

    Shit.

Lei Zheng cursed himself fiercely inside. Why had he brought all this up and made him feel bad for no reason?

Lei Zheng cupped Shu Hanqing's face in his hands, forcing him to look at him.

Lei Zheng met his gaze, his expression unusually serious and focused: "No, I was just messing around. Don't take it to heart. You're the best."

Hearing that familiar tone, a nameless anger flared up in Shu Hanqing's chest.

That tone was exactly the same as in their past life—carrying a kind of unreasonable indulgence, like patiently coaxing a kid throwing a tantrum.

Shu Hanqing turned his face away from Lei Zheng's hands and, with a hint of self-abandonment, shoved Lei Zheng hard: "Shut up, okay? You're always brushing me off!"

Lei Zheng was caught completely off guard by the shove. He instinctively reached out to grab Shu Hanqing, his fingertips barely brushing the cool back of his hand before Shu Hanqing shook him off hard.

Seeing Shu Hanqing turn and walk away with a cold face, Lei Zheng hurried after him.

He was usually someone who didn't take any crap from anyone, but now he was like a big dog circling its owner, darting around Shu Hanqing, his tall frame somehow radiating awkwardness: "Why are you mad again? I wasn't brushing you off. I meant it."

He took two big steps to get in front of Shu Hanqing and walked backward, scratching his head like crazy: "Don't be mad, okay? Want me to swear? If I'm lying, then I—"

Before he could blurt out half a bad word, Shu Hanqing's expression changed: "Shut up!"

He raised his hand and clamped it over Lei Zheng's mouth.

Shu Hanqing pressed his hand firmly over Lei Zheng's mouth as the two moved into the corner: "Stop trying to control me. We're not in that kind of relationship from our past life anymore. Stay out of my business!"

Lei Zheng didn't resist, leaning obediently against the wall, just looking into Shu Hanqing's eyes.

The air around them seemed to thicken at that moment.

Shu Hanqing was momentarily at a loss for words under his gaze, his fingertips unconsciously moving, wanting to let go.

Lei Zheng followed his force submissively, leaning in slightly toward him.

As the two were tangled up in their tug-of-war, footsteps from nearby made Shu Hanqing quickly pull his hand back.

Shi Lei walked over from the other end of the hallway.

Suddenly running into the two of them, Shi Lei took the initiative to say hi to Shu Hanqing.

But when he met Lei Zheng's eyes—coldly shooting daggers at being interrupted—Shi Lei shrank back, snapped to attention, and forced himself to lower his head and say, "Officer Lei."

Shu Hanqing asked, "Are you going to see Rong Hua?"

Shi Lei quickly nodded, worry all over his face: "Yeah, who knows when Rong Hua will wake up."

Hearing that, Shu Hanqing's expression darkened too.

After the riot that day, Lei Zheng had cleaned up the mess by himself.

Qin Shenzhen and those several once-energetic superpowered individuals had all died in those ruins, barely leaving complete bodies behind, let alone Rong Hua, who was hanging by a thread.

With that many dead and injured, this probably wouldn't end easily.

Lei Zheng dropped his earlier shameless act, stepped forward half a step, and tilted his chin at Shi Lei: "Then go ahead. Hanqing and I have things to talk about. See you."

Shi Lei: "Oh, Officer Lei, Hanqing, see you later."

After Shi Lei left, Shu Hanqing was about to head back as well, but Yan Shenyun had told him to keep an eye on himself for a couple of days.

However, Lei Zheng blocked his path, refusing to let him leave.

Shu Hanqing swept him with a cold look. "...You want to pick a fight?"

Lei Zheng's gaze drifted over Shu Hanqing's collar. The high collar of his shirt was slightly loose, couldn't hide that long, straight neck—instead, it teasingly left a sliver of skin exposed.

A few faint traces of dark Thunder Marks peeked out, their colors not exactly vivid, yet the lines winding up from his shoulder and spreading outward seemed to shift and flex with the subtle movement of his skin, impossible to look away from.

Lei Zheng's hands shot out at lightning speed to grab the back of Shu Hanqing's neck, then he splayed his fingers, pressing down on him.

He lowered his gaze to the man in his arms, a roguish smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth. "Don't be so trigger-happy with your fists. Let me see if those marks have faded enough—your place or mine?"

Shu Hanqing didn't trust a single word out of Lei Zheng's mouth; knowing him, checking the marks would probably lead straight to bed.

Shu Hanqing's gaze drifted down Lei Zheng's lower body, and he let out a cold laugh. "Don't get all horny for no reason, or I'll cut it off."

    "You wouldn't dare, baby."

As he spoke, Lei Zheng's palm clamped over Shu Hanqing's hand, and he roughly yet expertly pried open Lei Zheng's slightly cool lips.

Lei Zheng's forceful breath instantly made the air around them thick and hot. Those pitch-black eyes were so close, burning with intensity, locked dead on Shu Hanqing.

Lei Zheng hid his wild, screaming aggression behind a deceptive layer of tenderness.

Shu Hanqing felt the temperature around him spike sharply.

The roof of his mouth went numb, and even his breath was completely stolen away. Having been bullied by this man for so long across both past and present lives, Shu Hanqing had nowhere to retreat. Just being pinned down and kissed like this left his bones half-melted, and he could only slump limply with gravity.

Lei Zheng took the opportunity to press him hard against the corner wall.

He freed one hand, and with a palm calloused with thin layers of rough skin, he forcefully cupped Shu Hanqing's cheek, tilting his head aside and fiercely hooking his tongue to suck.

In that confined space, lips and teeth mingled with saliva, and the silent air suddenly filled with a few sticky, distinct smacking sounds—so intimate it made one's face flush red.

In the gap between breaths, Shu Hanqing turned his head aside and muttered a couple of curses under his breath, calling him a bastard.

But Lei Zheng acted as if he hadn't heard, pressing in again, his scorching breath brushing against Shu Hanqing's ear as his voice came out hoarse and raw. "...Just a moment, I've missed you to death."

Shu Hanqing struggled to no avail, and in the end, he gave up resistance, drained of all strength.

He tilted his head back slightly, letting Lei Zheng hold his neck in that possessive embrace.

When things weren't overly intimate, it was manageable, but once it descended into this pure, unyielding tangle of lips and tongues, reason became utterly entangled with a desire laced with the peculiar emotions of past and present lives.

Those long-suppressed feelings exploded in Shu Hanqing's mind, seeming to blaze into an inextinguishable fire. From where others might look from afar, the two were pressed together, tangled in a desperate, clinging embrace.

The surroundings were filled with a sound that made one's ears ring.

Suddenly, Lei Zheng's movements stopped without warning. His lips hovered barely against Shu Hanqing's sensitive ear, and when he spoke, his lowered voice sent chills down the spine: "...Baby, someone's secretly watching us."

Shu Hanqing grabbed Lei Zheng's arm, his pupils contracting sharply, feeling a chill shoot from the base of his spine straight up to the crown of his head.
