Chapter 41 – Revised
byChapter 41 - Revised
==============
The previous rejection reaction and the symptoms of her heat finally eased, and Li Jia's high fever began to subside.
Although the temporary marking was over, Ye Chengxing didn't release Li Jia but continued to soothe the Omega with a gentle voice, her embrace soft and warm.
Often after a temporary mark, an Omega might feel a bit uneasy, so it was important to provide more security at such times.
Li Jia fell asleep under her comfort, closing her eyes. Before sleeping, she clung to the corner of Ye Chengxing's clothes, her long, raven-like eyelashes damp, evoking a deep sense of pity.
After confirming that Li Jia had fallen asleep, Ye Chengxing gently laid her back on the bed and carefully wiped the Omega's cheeks with lukewarm water.
The room still lingered with the scent of their pheromones.
The Alpha's and Omega's pheromones combined into a softer fragrance.
Ye Chengxing paused, purifying the air in the room once again.
After tidying everything up, she sat by Li Jia's bedside.
A bite mark was clearly visible on the Omega's neck gland, a passionate red against her fair skin, even more prominent.
Ye Chengxing looked at this temporary mark, tucked Li Jia in, and then gently touched the end of the Omega's hair with her fingertips, filled with affection.
Before this, although she had been in this world for some time, Ye Chengxing always felt detached from her identity as an Alpha.
But at this moment, that detachment had vanished without a trace, replaced by a sense of responsibility as an Alpha.

When Li Jia woke up again, it was nearly noon the next day.
Although the symptoms of her heat had been relieved and the rejection reaction had subsided, Ye Chengxing still hadn't slept, guarding her all night with great concern, ready to handle any unexpected situations and better care for the Omega.
Seeing Li Jia awake, Ye Chengxing couldn't help but smile.
Even though she knew there wouldn't be any more unexpected emergencies, she still worried throughout the night.
Now that Li Jia had finally woken up, she truly relaxed.
Despite not having slept all night, Ye Chengxing showed no signs of fatigue, but rather joy. However, she didn't bombard Li Jia with questions about how she felt. Instead, she handed her a cup of lukewarm water that she had kept warm, and since Li Jia still lacked strength, she gently brought the cup to Li Jia's lips and fed her sip by sip.
The temperature of the water was just right, and after drinking the cup of warm water, Li Jia seemed much more spirited.
Ye Chengxing reached out and touched Li Jia's forehead, then asked, "Are you feeling better?"
Li Jia nodded in response. The Omega's complexion was still pale and weak, making her look even more pitiable, her pupils moist. "Much better."
Then, as if feeling guilty or self-reproachful, she bit her lip. "I'm sorry, Sister. I seem to have caused you trouble again..."
"Not at all, as long as you're okay. You'll never be a burden," Ye Chengxing said, ruffling Li Jia's hair. "Should I call the doctor over for another check-up? Afterward, there's something important I need to discuss with you."
******
The doctor thoroughly examined Li Jia again. When finished, the doctor sighed in relief. "Aside from being a bit weak, there's nothing major to worry about."
Hearing the final examination results, the stone hanging in Ye Chengxing's heart finally settled. "Thank you, Doctor."
The doctor shook her head. "You're welcome. However, even though there are no significant issues, there are still some things to pay attention to over the next few days."
Ye Chengxing carefully noted down the doctor's instructions before the doctor left the ward.
In bed, Li Jia appeared to be listening to them speak, but her gaze was fixed solely on Ye Chengxing.
The sensation of the temporary mark on her neck was distinct.
Her body now carried the scent of Ye Chengxing's pheromones.
She was so happy, so fond.
Almost dizzy with joy, her heart raced, and the excitement and infatuation in her eyes were almost uncontrollable.
"…Yes, Doctor. I will remember all of this." The Alpha's voice was earnest.
Seeing the doctor leave the ward, Ye Chengxing closed the door and walked back to Li Jia's bedside. Li Jia had to lower her eyes to hide her overly excited gaze.
As Ye Chengxing walked back to Li Jia's bedside, she reviewed the doctor's instructions in her mind.
Last night, she had also learned more about the knowledge between Alphas and Omegas.
With the doctor gone, only she and Li Jia remained in the ward.
"Little Li." Ye Chengxing sat by Li Jia's bedside and called out.
At the sound of her voice, the Omega's eyelashes fluttered. Her recent recovery and weakness made her natural beauty appear more obedient and pitiful.
Ye Chengxing looked at Li Jia, her tone sincere and honest. "Although this temporary mark was merely a therapeutic measure, I don't consider it a trivial matter. Little Li, I will take on this responsibility."
Her tone was clear and firm, each word reaching Li Jia's ears with clarity and gentleness.
As Li Jia listened, the joy in her heart suddenly froze.
This heat period was something she had planned long ago, and every step had unfolded exactly as she had designed.
But perhaps people are greedy. Even after obtaining what she initially desired, she developed even harder-to-satisfy desires.
She wanted her to take responsibility.
However, she didn't want her responsibility; she wanted her affection, her uncontrollable emotions, her... love.
Ye Chengxing treated her too well, cherishing her as if she were one-of-a-kind. No one had ever treated her like this before.
But this wasn't love.
She felt pity and heartache for her, or in other words, she loved her—though this love leaned more towards caring and cherishing.
Just like at this very moment, the reason she wanted to take responsibility was because she had made a temporary mark on her, so she would take responsibility. This was simply her code of conduct: the responsibility an Alpha had toward an Omega, even if it was another Omega.
Even if... it was another Omega.
Li Jia blinked and finally lifted her eyelashes.
"There's no need. I don't need you to take responsibility, Sister," the beautiful Omega tilted her head, then slowly curved her eyes into a gentle smile. "This was just a treatment, not love. To tie yourself down for life over this wouldn't be worth it."
