Chapter 76
byChapter 76
==================
The wedding dress still lay quietly in the room on the third floor.
Li Jia squatted down to help her adjust the hem of the dress.
Ye Chengxing vaguely sensed the Omega's movements. She realized that her inability to see should have been thoroughly exposed when they bathed together just now.
She reached out to touch the texture of the wedding dress and sighed with some emotion, "So this is how it feels to wear a wedding dress..." This was how it felt to wear a wedding dress with the woman she loved.
After such a sigh, Ye Chengxing paused and said softly, "Little Li, it must be troublesome."
She didn't say clearly what she meant by "troublesome," leaving it ambiguous whether she referred to the wedding dress or herself being a burden.
Li Jia paused at her words. "How could it be? I'm very happy to help Chengxing wear the wedding dress."
Her voice seemed to carry a subtle tremor.
"Moreover, I'm really happy to wear the wedding dress with you..."
"I'm especially happy..."
Ye Chengxing reached out and rubbed her hair as before, then hesitantly caressed her face.
She curved her lips, half-lowering her long eyelashes into a faint smile. "Me too."
In the cold winter, the light outside gradually brightened with the rising warm sun.
The warm dawn light fell, yet it seemed to carry a bone-chilling coldness.
On this quiet snowy day, they held a wedding with only each other.
Even though Ye Chengxing did nothing, and even the wedding dress was put on by Li Jia, just reciting the vows and putting on the wedding rings caused a strong feeling of fatigue.
Ye Chengxing heard the sound of Li Jia fetching something and returning.
Pausing for a second, she sensed something and suddenly tried to shield herself awkwardly.
"Wait, Little Li, don't take my picture."
It was almost a reflexive response.
As the words fell, Ye Chengxing's lips carried a slight bitterness. She knew that this sentence shouldn't be said at this moment.
But...
Ye Chengxing spoke again. She didn't want to use the bitter tone from before, but even if she tried to make her voice sound cheerful, it didn't differ much from before, and her tone began to tremble subtly. "Little Li, indulge me this once. Can you remember my best appearance, not like this?"
She sat on the bed in her wedding dress, facing her direction, almost pleading. Her eyes were open, but unfocused.
The layers of the wedding dress flowed down the side of the bed like water, but it seemed to turn into an invisible wave. In an instant, a suffocating feeling overwhelmed Li Jia.
She choked up, trying to speak but found her throat blocked, unable to utter a word.
Li Jia put down the camera and stepped forward to embrace Ye Chengxing.
After a long while, she finally managed to find her voice.
She kissed her eyes and her lips, along with tears that seemed unforgettable in their bitterness. "We won't take any pictures, Chengxing. We won't take any pictures... And you've always been the most beautiful in my eyes."
Ye Chengxing listened to her voice, nodding. Her lips opened and closed.
Her body felt terrible, but the pain in her heart was more intense.
Just like the words that slipped out, she shouldn't cry now, but her tears couldn't be stopped.
Those two sentences alone had drained her physically. Never before had she felt so acutely that her time was running short.
But what about Li Jia?
What about Li Jia after she was gone?
She loved her so fiercely that the pain would surely be enough to consume her.
Ye Chengxing could sense the fragility beneath her kisses, on the brink of shattering.
She wanted to kiss her back, but her body seemed to lack even the strength for that.
If only they could truly be together forever.
But where was there such a thing as forever?
Ye Chengxing felt Li Jia's embrace as her tears silently fell again.
She wasn't afraid of death. Even now, she wouldn't regret her choice.
It was just a pity that this was as far as she could accompany Li Jia.
Although the physical exhaustion was strong, her mind seemed unusually clear today, without the usual drowsiness.
However, even with a clear mind, she couldn't eat anything. Especially since Ye Chengxing had been receiving nutritional injections directly during this period.
Li Jia thought for a moment and had the robot bring out the dumplings she had previously made and stored in the smart storage room.
She hadn't seen Ye Chengxing remain awake for such a long time in a while. Her memories were filled with images of her sleeping—images where she couldn't wake her up, no matter what she said.
Frame by frame, these memories filled her mind.
Seeing such a vibrant Ye Chengxing now, Li Jia couldn't help but keep talking to her, yet she was also worried about tiring her. She kissed her ear. "Chengxing, lean against my chest. You don't need to respond to me."
After all, it was enough for now to simply watch her blink and reveal that faint smile.
The light outside dimmed as time passed, replaced by the glow of indoor lamps.
But her world had long since plunged into darkness. She could no longer feel the warmth of the Omega embracing her.
The sensation of her vitality draining away accelerated in an instant.
She listened to her voice and blinked gently.
She had lost all sense of time long ago. Even though she had managed to stay awake for most of the day, according to her feelings, it was clearly not yet time for New Year's Eve.
Yet the exhaustion in her body grew more overwhelming, and her consciousness began to cloud again.
Ye Chengxing reached out with her fingertips and lightly tugged at Li Jia's clothes.
A strong premonition told her that if she didn't speak now, there might not be another chance.
"Little Li." She called out, unsure of the volume of her own voice, she could only try to speak.
Her voice was too weak, but her tone transformed it into a tender whisper.
Li Jia sensed something and froze.
Ye Chengxing spoke softly and intermittently, "I think I'm going to fall asleep again. Little Li, this time when I sleep, I might not wake up..."
This premonition of impending death was impossible to fake.
Her tone was calm. After Ye Chengxing finished speaking, she paused for a second. The words she wanted to say gathered on her lips, and she tried to make her voice sound as if it carried a hint of a resigned smile.
"Li Jia, in the future... live well, go and embrace that bright, beautiful future that belongs to you."
Li Jia listened to Ye Chengxing's voice, the strength in the fingertips holding her clothes gradually weakening.
Ye Chengxing felt cool droplets land on her neck. Her fingertips moved, trying to rub the Omega's hair like she used to.
But after just that movement, she lost her strength and let her hand drop.
A sense of powerlessness weighed on her heart. Ye Chengxing felt her consciousness dispersing. She curved her lips, her voice barely audible: "I'm sorry, I seem to have broken my promise again. I said we would see the new year together."
"But forgive me this time..." she murmured.
Her voice grew softer. Li Jia watched Ye Chengxing's lips move silently one last time, barely able to discern the word "love."
But the unfinished declaration of love remained unspoken.
She fell back into a deep sleep.
Into a sleep where her vitality would fade until she would never wake again.
At the same time, the electronically timed fireworks outside automatically bloomed in the sky. Large, dazzling colors exploded one after another, transforming into streaks of light that fell like a grand illusion of a dream.
The hour hand moved slightly.
The new year had arrived.
The dumplings on the table had been taken out of the smart storage for a long time. They sat in their bowls, already cold.
Li Jia remembered the bowl of dumplings. She glanced sideways and suddenly couldn't help but laugh.
She held Chengxing and looked out at the fireworks that had ended.
The person in her arms breathed so lightly it was almost imperceptible.
Li Jia reached out and stroked Ye Chengxing's cheek: "Sis, you know, even after teaching me for so long that day, I still haven't learned. The dumplings I make still break open. I'm so clumsy..."
"But now it's the New Year in your world, sis. We saw the new year together, I'm so happy."
Tears fell uncontrollably onto the Alpha's eye, seeping into her hair, making her sleeping face look as if she were crying.
Li Jia clasped Ye Chengxing's fingertips and placed her back on the bed.
"I'm really happy, to have worn a wedding dress with you, to have had you for so long."
"This is already more happiness than I ever dared to dream of."
She held the hand wearing the matching ring and picked up the knife she had prepared, her expression unclear whether she was laughing or crying: "It doesn't matter if you fall into a deep sleep. If you were still awake, you'd definitely stop me, but it's okay like this now."
"Sis must remember what I said before. I said that everything meaningful in my life was given to me by you."
"I've also thought about it later, it would have been better if we hadn't met in this way, but if not for this way, I probably would never have met you."
Her body began to tremble uncontrollably. The pure white wedding dress splattered with glaring red blood.
She finally embraced her completely.
Li Jia closed her eyes, but the corners of her mouth rose in a smile. She vowed each word: "Li Jia promises to love Ye Chengxing forever, even death will not make me forget, we will be partners for all eternity."
She kissed Ye Chengxing's lips, her voice fading with the kiss, barely audible.
"Sis, have a happy homecoming."
On the soft bed, the overlapping pure white wedding dresses embraced each other, and the blood that splattered from between them bloomed like roses in winter.
"Zz... Detection of the current situation aligns with... the pr... zz... pre... host's wish..."
"The Wish Contract is automatically activating—"
"Ding dong! The Wish Contract has successfully been automatically triggered!"
