Chapter 27 The New Therapist
byChapter 27 The New Healer
When Fang Ran opened his eyes, the first thing he saw was the interior of a tent.
This tent was noticeably larger than the previous one, furnished with a simple single bed, his backpack resting beside it.
He was alone inside, with faint, muffled sounds of activity drifting in from outside.
It seemed he had arrived at the camp.
Fang Ran’s consciousness was still hazy; he lay on the bed, staring blankly at the pointed ceiling.
That dream just now...
Though not a purification, it felt as if he had connected to Fu Zhangzhou’s spiritual sea.
Was that numb and helpless boy his childhood self?
A 3S-level Sentinel... weren't they supposed to be omnipotent?
Why would he expose his most vulnerable side?
Fang Ran sighed and slowly sat up.
Even though he wanted to push that person away, it felt as if he was slowly encroaching upon his life.
His body still felt a bit weak. Fang Ran recalled that this mission had quite a few healers assigned.
Healers were also special existences in the apocalypse.
They weren't as prominent as Guides and couldn't purify Sentinels.
However, healers could treat most external injuries and quickly restore Sentinels and Guides to full strength, making them crucial support in various missions.
"I should find a healer," he thought.
As soon as Fang Ran opened the tent flap, he saw Fang Liyu walking past, her face also looking somewhat pale.
"Fang Ran, you’re awake?" There was a hint of surprise in her voice.
"Sister Fang," Fang Ran noticed her tone, "did I... pass out for a long time?"
"No," Fang Liyu shook her head, "quite the opposite. You're the second Guide to wake up after me."
"Either Fu Zhangzhou protected you very well, or your spiritual sea..."
She seemed to suddenly remember something.
"Fang Ran, you haven’t completed your advanced differentiation test, have you?"
Hearing Fang Liyu suddenly bring up this topic, Fang Ran’s heart skipped a beat, and he instinctively wanted to avoid it.
"Sister Fang, I’m still a bit dizzy."
He covered his forehead with one hand, feigning discomfort. "I’d like to find a healer first."
"Really?" Fang Liyu immediately showed a concerned expression. "Come with me, I was just about to check in with logistics myself."
"Okay." Fang Ran couldn’t refuse and had to follow her.
"I didn’t expect this area to absorb the psychic energy of Guides."
Fang Liyu chatted with him as they walked.
"Absorb the psychic energy of Guides?" So that’s why he fainted?
"Yes," Fang Liyu glanced at the distant scenery, "and it only targets the psychic energy of Guides."
"The initial reconnaissance reports only showed that the outer barrier indiscriminately attacks all psychic energy."
"The vanguard team was all Sentinels, so they couldn’t have discovered this."
Fang Ran followed her gaze to the blurry distance.
This place seemed no different from the outside world, yet upon closer inspection, everything felt subtly strange.
Multi-story tall flowers and plants, glowing trees—all indicated the uniqueness of this place.
Even the sun above seemed magnified.
Fang Ran looked up at the somewhat eerie sky and voiced his confusion.
"But I feel quite relaxed now?"
Fang Liyu nodded, "This mission brought many psychic-type Sentinels, and dampening fields have been set up all around here."
"We’ve already sent the data back to the center. Until a solution is found, no Guides can leave the camp."
Fang Ran nodded in understanding, and the two continued walking toward the logistics area.
......
"Are these the Guardians?"
Fang Ran saw rows of neatly arranged blue tents behind the central camp.
Fang Liyu frowned, "Due to the special circumstances, the Guardians are temporarily stationed with us."
"And they don’t have enough Guides, so they want to borrow our personnel."
"Did the center agree?"
"According to the Sentry-Guide Accord, we cannot refuse."
"Hmm," Fang Ran recalled the previous DR002 alert, "the West District Subcenter also performed emergency purification for their Sentinels."
By now, the two had reached the logistics camp. Rows of orange tents formed semi-open spaces, and many logistics personnel were already busy working.
"Fang Ran, I need to check the dispatch status. The healers’ tent is over there."
"Okay."
Fang Ran followed the directions to a semi-open tent.
Behind a long table sat six healers, with only a young man at the far end unoccupied.
"Hello." Fang Ran walked over and sat down in front of him.
"After waking up, I’ve been feeling lightheaded and weak. Could you take a look?"
The young healer’s eyes brightened when he saw him.
"You’re Fang Ran, the Guide?"
Fang Ran nodded. "You are?"
He offered his hand to Fang Ran, his smile still somewhat boyish.
"I’m the new healer, Shen Ke."
