Chapter 74 Don’t Covet What Isn’t Yours
byChapter 74: Don’t Covet What Isn’t Yours
"Get back here for purification."
"Understood."
The Sentinel lowered his head, repeatedly reading the words on his terminal, a strange sense of joy welling up within him.
His Guide was finally concerned about him.
How wonderful.
Fu Zhangzhou suddenly looked up and said to a fellow Sentinel beside him:
"He’s worried about me... He truly cares."
The other Sentinel was utterly bewildered, knowing only that this 3S Sentinel before him was incredibly powerful, utterly unhinged, and completely unreasonable. He could only manage a surprised, "Huh?"
Fu Zhangzhou glanced back toward the coastline, then suddenly clapped the Sentinel’s shoulder.
"Do you know?"
"I’ve worked so hard for so long, and he’s finally... responded to me."
As he spoke, he even dabbed at the corner of his eye, looking as if on the verge of tears, yet a smile played on his lips.
"Boom!"
The Sentinel flinched at the roar from ahead. He looked at the hand on his shoulder, then at the battle raging nearby.
Water sprayed, blood mist rose, and the roars of monsters mingled with the shouts of his comrades.
What a time for this!
And this guy was still here chattering away!
"Sentinel Fu Zhangzhou, it seems another wave of mutated creatures has appeared over there. Perhaps we should..."
Fu Zhangzhou raised his head, following the direction the other pointed.
A fissure had opened on the nearby sea surface, from which black, spherical jellyfish continuously poured out.
Though these mutated jellyfish were low-level, they could float in the air, stick to the body and be impossible to remove, and would explode upon contact with human skin, making them incredibly difficult to defend against.
Fu Zhangzhou narrowed his eyes and suddenly blurted out:
"But I’m a little scared."
The Sentinel’s pointing finger froze.
Shit!
Scared?!
Then who was it who just moments ago was competing with others, blasting A-level and even S-level monsters like balloons?!
Who was it?! Tell me!!
He was about to say more when he suddenly saw a teammate rushing over.
"Save me! Quick, save me!"
The man cried out frantically, a three-meter-long purple moray eel clamped tightly onto his shoulder, his skin already turning purplish-blue, as he lunged wildly toward them.
The Sentinel’s pupils contracted in terror, his muscles stiffening, instinctively trying to hide behind Fu Zhangzhou.
Because the other end of the biting moray eel wasn’t a tail—it was another head! This meant the purple moray eel had undergone a secondary evolution, making it a super A+, or even S-level, highly venomous Star-Swallowing Moray!
One end of the moray eel bit the Sentinel’s shoulder, while the other end opened its gaping maw and swept toward them.
Fu Zhangzhou suddenly extended his hand, conjuring a Psychic Shield before him. With a forceful swing of his arm, the moray eel was instantly smacked away.
The person it had been biting screamed as he was flung into the sea.
The moray eel seemed undeterred, circling several times in the air before charging back.
As if he had anticipated it, Fu Zhangzhou’s hand glowed with red light, forming a fiery red longsword. He aimed it in the direction of the charging moray eel and hurled it with all his might.
"Bang!"
The two forces collided mid-air.
The moray eel was pierced from head to tail, blood splattering like waves, instantly losing all life.
The Sentinel beside Fu Zhangzhou was splattered with blood on his face, already terrified to the point of blankness, his whole body trembling uncontrollably.
"Don’t move." Fu Zhangzhou reached out, dabbed some of the moray eel’s blood from the other’s face, and smeared it on his own arm.
"Look, I’m injured too."
"If that Lu Wenshan asks, just say I’ve expended all my energy and need to return for emergency purification. Understand?"
"......"
The Sentinel stared blankly at him, finally managing only a stiff nod.
Fu Zhangzhou gave him a satisfied look, flicked off the seawater splashed on his face, and prepared to leave.
"Fu Zhangzhou!"
Just then, Lu Wenshan arrived with a team from another direction.
He surveyed the battle situation, spotted the fissure still spewing jellyfish, and immediately told those behind him, "A few of you, go deal with that over there."
"Yes." Two people from his team immediately stepped forward and flew toward the fissure.
Fu Zhangzhou glared impatiently at them and turned to walk away.
"Fu Zhangzhou, where are you going?" Lu Wenshan stepped in front of him, blocking his path.
"The cleanup operation here isn’t over yet."
Fu Zhangzhou looked him up and down, then suddenly laughed aloud.
"Lu Wenshan, don’t think that just because you’re in charge of Sentinel operations now, you can meddle in my affairs."
He waved the arm stained with moray eel blood and said provocatively:
"See that? I'm injured, energy depleted, and I need to go back to my Guide."
Lu Wenshan frowned and retorted, "As far as I know, you haven't been matched with a Guide yet."
Fu Zhangzhou tilted his head slightly, his gaze growing even more intense.
"The S-Class monsters have basically been cleared out."
"Or are all the Sentinels from your District 8 just incompetent, unable to handle even this mop-up operation?"
Fu Zhangzhou leaned closer to this S-Class Ice Sentinel, his gaze a hundred times colder than the other's. He bared his teeth, his voice clear and low, saying:
"Don't think I don't know what you're up to."
"Lu Wenshan, don’t covet what isn’t yours."
......
On the sea, tensions were mounting, while back at the Guide waiting area, Fang Ran was the picture of ease.
By now, quite a few Guides had gathered in the room. Although more and more Sentinels were coming in for purification, most eyes were fixed on the S-Class Wen Qi, with some even forming a queue.
Wen Qi was quite accommodating, basically accepting everyone who came. Not only was he high-ranked and highly efficient, but his appearance and aura were also exceptionally outstanding. Many Sentinels entered pale-faced and left blushing.
"Quite the heartthrob," Zhong Wan muttered in his ear.
Fang Ran nodded in agreement.
In this room, he and Zhong Wan were the most idle.
Setting rank aside, Wen Qi had already drawn most of the attention. The headquarters' Sentinels more or less knew about their ties to Fu Zhangzhou and Lu Wenchuan. Except for those deliberately looking for trouble, most wouldn't seek them out for purification.
And...
Fang Ran glanced sideways at Shen Ke and Zhao Fan at the other end of the sofa.
These two... actually took the initiative to ward off those troublesome Sentinels.
Although it was good for him, it felt like there was an ulterior motive—unsettling, really...
As he pondered, he looked down at his terminal again.
It had been a long time since the Sentinel's reply. Why hadn't he returned yet?
Had something happened?
"Fang Ran, why have you been staring at your terminal all afternoon?" Zhong Wan suddenly leaned in and asked.
"Huh?" Fang Ran was slightly startled and quickly put away his terminal. "...Just checking the time."
"Stop pretending," Zhong Wan narrowed his eyes, clearly not buying it.
"You're definitely secretly contacting Fu Zhangzhou."
"......"
"I feel like since Fu Zhangzhou came back, you two have gotten increasingly... close."
"......"
"Seems like last night was very... eventful."
Fang Ran clapped a hand over his mouth. "What nonsense are you spouting..."
