Chapter 93 So Concerned About Me?
byChapter 93: So Concerned About Me?
By now, the square was gradually filling with people.
Several teams of Guardian sentinels arrived. One group efficiently moved to carry Zheng Mingyu and other injured individuals onto stretchers, while the rest continued to manage the crowd in the square.
Fortunately, the chaos had not resulted in severe casualties; most people had only suffered minor scrapes from falling during the commotion, and order was quickly restored.
It seemed the alarm had finally been sounded. In addition to the Guardian teams, many central sentinels from District 5 had also arrived.
Recognizing the uniforms worn by Fu Zhangzhou and Lu Wenchuan, they hurried over to assist.
With everyone’s combined efforts, the heavy statue was slowly laid flat on an open space in the square. Made entirely of sturdy metal, it remained largely undamaged except for its fallen longsword and a small dent.
Fu Zhangzhou stood still for a moment longer before returning to the café with Lu Wenchuan.
Fang Ran noticed a subtly pained and suppressed look on the sentinel’s face when he returned.
He had already guessed that the statue’s prototype held significant meaning for Fu Zhangzhou, but with so many people around, it wasn’t the right time to ask. He could only approach the sentinel and pat his shoulder.
Fu Zhangzhou gazed at him thoughtfully for a moment before suddenly smiling.
“So concerned about me?”
Fang Ran nodded in relief, seeing the somberness on his face finally disappear.
“Yes, I was very worried about you.”
It was the first time Fu Zhangzhou had seen him so straightforward, and he was momentarily stunned before breaking into a teasing grin.
“In that case, about the reward I asked for this morning… can you agree to add one more night?”
“......”
Fang Ran shot him an annoyed glare.
He never changes.
But seeing Fu Zhangzhou like this put him more at ease.
Meanwhile, Zhong Wan walked straight over to Lu Wenchuan.
Lu Wenchuan instantly pulled him into an embrace, soothingly patting his back.
Lu Tang, standing to the side, suddenly felt like a high-wattage third wheel.
Though she was also relieved, seeing the affectionate display between the others made her shake her head in mild amusement.
“Please, spare me this public display of affection. If you have this much energy, why not help guide the crowd downstairs?”
“This mess was created by the Guardians,” Fu Zhangzhou said, glancing outside. “If they dare to be this high-profile, they should be prepared to handle the fallout.”
“True enough,” Lu Tang nodded. “They probably thought that since the Raiders invaded the center just last night and are now being hunted across the district, they’d lay low. If they’d pulled off this event smoothly, it would’ve given them a PR win over the center.”
“But they didn’t expect the Raiders had a bigger plan in motion all along.”
Just then, all their terminals vibrated simultaneously with a warning message about the incident.
Lu Tang glanced down at her terminal and sighed. “I should get going.”
“District 5 is such a mess—only sending out an alert now, no wonder the Raiders dared to run wild here. I’m heading back to District 4 early.”
Fang Ran noticed her packing her bag and smoothing her clothes and hair, as if preparing to leave.
“Lu Tang, is your mission in District 5 finished?”
“Not quite,” Lu Tang waved a hand dismissively. “But Fang Liyu said since my transfer is coming up, I can head back early.”
She winked at Fang Ran and Zhong Wan with a smile. “You two, remember to finish your mission soon and return to District 4. I’ll be waiting for you to see me off.”
......
After saying goodbye to Lu Tang, the four returned to the top floor of the Southwest Subcenter.
Due to the recent attacks, security at the center had clearly been tightened.
The sentinels on duty questioned them one by one, carefully verifying their IDs before allowing them through.
“They’re strict now—why couldn’t they have been this quick when the chaos broke out?” Zhong Wan complained, then took Fang Ran’s hand and led him back to the hovercar.
Lu Wenchuan and Fu Zhangzhou stayed behind to chat briefly with the District 5 sentinels before returning to the vehicle.
“A Chuan, what were you talking to the District 5 people about?” Zhong Wan asked curiously.
Lu Wenchuan, sitting in the driver’s seat, turned around and replied gently, “Just asking about the casualties. The seriously injured were all Guardian sentinels—Zheng Mingyu’s Guardian Team A was almost completely wiped out.”
“Oh,” Zhong Wan nodded in understanding. Perhaps exhausted from the recent events, he couldn’t help but yawn, his eyes welling up with tears and tinged with redness at the corners.
Seeing how tired he looked, Lu Wenchuan reached out and gently ruffled his hair. “Wan Wan, are you very tired? Let’s go back and rest properly.”
Fu Zhangzhou suddenly spoke up, “Sentinel Lu Wenchuan, it’s not just your Wan Wan—my Ran Ran is also exhausted. Can you drive faster?”
He then turned to Fang Ran. “Ran Ran, am I right?”
Fang Ran looked at him irritably. “Don’t call me that.”
The sentinel tousled his own hair and said with a hint of grievance, “But you know, a tired little dog who’s been running around all day just wants to go back and curl up in bed. Otherwise, he’ll be so exhausted he starts babbling nonsense…”
“Enough,” Fang Ran said, exasperated and unwilling to indulge him further. “Let’s just head back for now.”
“As you wish,” Fu Zhangzhou replied with a triumphant smile, immediately leaning over to press the hovercar’s ignition button on Lu Wenchuan’s dashboard.
Lu Wenchuan was taken aback for a second.
Fu Zhangzhou raised an eyebrow. “Let’s go back quickly. They’re letting us stay.”
“Stupid cat.”
Lu Wenchuan met his gaze.
Though insulted, he wasn’t angry—instead, he nodded solemnly.
The sentinel quickly activated the hovercar’s system, synced it with his terminal, put on his headset, and was about to input the destination coordinates when a message popped up on the screen.
Fu Zhangzhou, noticing his sudden frown, asked, “Who is it?”
“My brother,” Lu Wenchuan replied flatly.
“Lu Wenshan?” Fu Zhangzhou raised an eyebrow. “What does that icicle want with you?”
“Didn’t I tell him that we’re on a mission?”
“Right.” Lu Wenchuan nodded. “He sent a voice note...”
“?”
“Telling us to wait for him right here... His whole team is about to head over; seems like they're investigating the Raiders' trail.”
“Huh?,” Zhong Wan, sitting in the back seat, reacted and asked, puzzled, “So, should we wait? How does he even know we're here?”
“Probably saw the center's backend live feed,” Fang Ran chimed in while checking his terminal. “If any of the sentinels from District 5 uploaded public info, all center staff can access it.”
“Oh, I see.” Zhong Wan nodded, still looking a bit dazed. “So, what do we do now...”
“Of course, we just head back.”
Lu Wenchuan input the coordinates into the system without even glancing sideways, and the hovercar began to ascend.
“I'm on a covert mission—I didn't see any message.”
