Chapter 212 The Grand Finale
by 八十六笔Chapter 212 The Grand Finale
Dark Transmigration Bureau
The leader hadn’t expected their swift return, but an early comeback was welcome—it meant they could cease monitoring this small world and reallocate personnel to others.
“Leader, are you here to greet me~”
Ao Tian leaped from Chen Zui’s head onto the leader’s face, forming a heart with its tentacles.
The leader gently removed it, tossing it back to Chen Zui. “Now that everything is settled, you’ll be leaving the Dark Transmigration Bureau for good. We have a tradition here: you may revisit the small worlds you’ve previously been to.”
The chance to revisit—Chen Zui and Kuang Ye exchanged glances. They genuinely wished to return, to see old friends.
——
In the blink of an eye, Chen Zui and the others were back in the first small world, though they appeared differently to others. Ao Tian crawled out of Chen Zui’s pocket, eyeing the grand villa before them. “Where is this?”
A car pulled up, and they stepped aside. The person who emerged from the vehicle made Chen Zui and Kuang Ye’s clasped hands tighten further—it was themselves.
Data versions of themselves, left behind by the Dark Transmigration Bureau to maintain the small world’s operations.
The two carried gifts and a cake, clearly there for a birthday celebration. They waited at the door and rang the doorbell, indicating the villa belonged to someone else, and they were likely guests for a party.
Chen Zui: “Who is it?”
Kuang Ye shook his head, equally at a loss.
When the door opened, both were taken aback.
Chen Xiu, with a healthy glow and a more mature demeanor, answered the door with a smile. The three of them chatted and laughed as they entered the villa.
Ao Tian: “Isn’t that Chen Xiu?”
Ao Tian: “Let me check his data.”
Kuang Ye felt a pang of nervousness. Although he had been influenced by the small world’s settings back then, he had still done some regrettable things to Chen Xiu. He hoped Chen Xiu was living well and happily, for Chen Xiu deserved it.
Ao Tian: “Wow, this is big news.”
Kuang Ye asked anxiously, “What is it?”
Ao Tian: “After Chen Xiu left with that money, he reconnected with a college classmate who was starting a business but lacked funds. Chen Xiu invested, and now their company has gone public. In other words…”
Ao Tian looked at Kuang Ye. “Chen Xiu is super rich now! And that classmate is pursuing him~ Here’s a little secret: the classmate is really handsome~”
Hearing this, Kuang Ye felt a wave of relief. He looked toward the villa and suddenly felt like crying, moved that Chen Xiu’s hardships had finally paid off.
Chen Zui slipped an arm around his shoulder and patted him gently, then asked Ao Tian, “How did our relationship improve?”
Ao Tian: “Before their company went public, that psycho Xiao Hang failed to win Chen Xiu back and tried to run over Chen Xiu’s classmate with a car. Chen Xiu pushed his classmate out of the way, and Jiang Mo, who happened to be nearby, saw it and saved Chen Xiu. He ended up hospitalized for two months. After that, your relationship improved, and Xiao Hang ended up in prison.”
Kuang Ye gritted his teeth. “That damn Xiao Hang!”
Chen Zui pulled him closer into an embrace. Good thing it was only the data copy that stayed behind. If it had been the real Kuang Ye who got hit…
They walked past the villa, where four people were having a barbecue in the yard, laughing and enjoying themselves.
Chen Xiu narrowed his eyes at the two men passing by outside, feeling a faint sense of familiarity.
A barbecue skewer was handed to him. “The first bite for the birthday boy.”
Chen Xiu looked away and took a bite. “Delicious.”
He wore an expression of pure happiness.
——
In the second world, Chen Zui and the others arrived at a bar and immediately spotted Li Jingtang sulking in a booth across from them, drinking alone. Li Jingtang kept glancing at his phone, clearly waiting for someone to contact him.
Gu Beichen: “What’s going on between you two now?”
Li Jingtang snorted, poured himself a drink, chugged it, and slammed the glass on the table. “He’s being completely unreasonable this time!”
Gu Beichen rolled his eyes silently. Accepting that his friend was the receptive partner had taken all his strength, and now he had to constantly hear about their couple problems. He lit a cigarette, pitying himself. “What did he do?”
“I was out having dinner with Old Shen and the others yesterday. It was already 10 p.m., you know? He didn’t even call to tell me to come back home—not even a text!”
Li Jingtang looked at Gu Beichen. “Do you think he doesn’t love me anymore?”
Gu Beichen thought his friend had lost his mind since getting into a relationship. He took a drag of his cigarette. “Did he used to call you before?”
“I always came home before 10 p.m. in the past. If I was late, I’d text him.”
Gu Beichen: …
Chen Zui and the others overheard everything from across the bar. This world’s dynamic was truly unique.
The Chen Zui of this world appeared. Li Jingtang immediately eyed him like a jealous rival, but Chen Zui ignored him entirely, heading to a diagonal booth to sit down, order a drink, and start drinking alone.
Gu Beichen glanced back and forth between the two. He swore off relationships forever.
Li Jingtang watched Chen Zui taking slow sips of his drink as time ticked by—10:30, 11:00, almost midnight. He slammed his glass down and stormed over to Chen Zui.
Gu Beichen didn’t even try to stop him. If those two actually fought, he’d eat his hat.
Li Jingtang: “What time is it? Why aren’t you home yet!”
Since Chen Zui arrived, seven people had hit on him, and countless others were checking him out. Li Jingtang was seething.
Chen Zui swirled his drink lightly. “The missus isn’t home. No point in going back.”
Li Jingtang: “Then why don’t you go find your wife and bring him home!”
Chen Zui smiled at him. “I prefer a wife who comes home obediently.”
He set his glass down. “This is the second time you’ve stayed out past 10 p.m. If there’s a third time, I’m kicking him out.”
Li Jingtang scowled, then suddenly grabbed Chen Zui by the collar and hauled him up from his seat.
Chen Zui: “What are you doing?”
Li Jingtang: “We’re going home now!”
He dragged Chen Zui toward the exit. As they passed Chen Zui and the others’ booth, he muttered, “When we get home, I’ll pound you into the ground. We’ll go down together.”
Chen Zui, being dragged along, wrapped an arm around his waist. “Instead of going down together, why not share a bed? Tonight, we’ll take care of you together.”
The two of them just left like that.
The forgotten Gu Beichen: Hey, what about my peanuts?
——
Before them was a new city, a new world. The vitality and demeanor of every person here were completely different from the ordinary world. Those who survived the apocalypse always lived with extraordinary vigor.
Chen Zui and Kuang Ye scanned their surroundings—they were in a square.
Ao Tian pointed toward the large screen ahead: “It’s Hu Xue!”
Dressed in formal attire, Hu Xue appeared on the screen, looking imposing and dignified. People in the square quickly gathered, addressing her as the mayor.
It was a news interview focusing on the city’s reconstruction. Hu Xue fielded each question with composure, projecting a hopeful city with a promising future.
Another familiar face appeared behind Hu Xue—Gao Qiang, dressed in a black suit and white shirt, stood slightly behind her as the mayor’s bodyguard. His demeanor had become much more composed.
A child’s voice piped up as a group of children wearing little yellow hats emerged from the park next to the square, chattering and trotting along. Leading them was Teacher Hu Yue, holding a red flag and blowing a whistle: “Choo-choo! This way, little train!”
Chen Zui and the others broke into simultaneous grins upon seeing her, taking an instinctive step toward her before catching themselves.
Hu Yue energetically led the children past them. One of the little ones stumbled and was about to fall when Chen Zui reached out to catch them. Hu Yue hurried over, crouching down to check if the child was hurt.
The child shook their head: “Teacher Yueyue, I’m not hurt.”
Then they turned to Chen Zui, bowed, and said in a sweet, childish voice: “Thanks, mister.”
Chen Zui: “You’re welcome.”
Hu Yue looked at them: “Thank you so much.”
She took off a crocheted red flower pinned to her backpack—meant as a reward for the children—and handed it to Chen Zui: “Please accept this.”
Chen Zui accepted it graciously, remembering the small clothes Hu Yue had once made for him: “Thank you, I’ll cherish this.”
Kuang Ye watched Hu Yue with a gaze that held almost a touch of avuncular warmth.
They watched until Hu Yue and the children left the square. The interview on the screen had also ended by then.
Everyone was living well.
——
This time, Chen Zui and the others wound up on a film set. The shooting location had the road closed, so they were in a café on the second floor of a building by the roadside. Seated next to the window, they had a clear view of Chen Zui listening to the director go over the scene.
Filming began soon after. Chen Zui, on wires, was leaping and darting across rooftops as cars chased him amid explosive large-scale scenes.
Kuang Ye: “It seems in this world, you’re still hard at work acting.”
Chen Zui nodded. Given his current physical condition, he figured he could pull off those stunts without needing wires.
After filming wrapped up, a caterer's truck arrived. Instead of coffee or milk tea, it was doling out luxury items—a lavish splurge by President Xie Qingyue.
Within the industry, film crews loved working with Chen Zui the most.
Not only was Chen Zui famously easy to work with and dedicated to his craft, but Xie Qingyue also always gave pricey gifts. Whether kept or resold, it was a neat little profit.
The pair had become saints in the circle—a power couple with a generous streak.
Xie Qingyue got a ride from Lu Buyan. They happened to be returning from out of town together—Lu Buyan was off to grab drinks with friends, while Xie Qingyue was heading to see his boyfriend.
In the end, after a glance at his favorite wheels—a gift from Xie Qingyue—Lu Buyan chose to drop him off first.
Xie Qingyue got out of the car and went straight to Chen Zui. Once Chen Zui noticed him, he immediately walked over, and the two embraced as if no one else was around.
Lu Buyan let out a scoff. Back in the day, he had been Chen Zui’s benefactor.
Thinking back on those times, he felt like a total joke!
He shouldn’t be here—he should be in Gotham.
Lu Buyan swung the car around and drove off. A new fling was waiting for him~
In this world, the two had it all—thriving careers and love, nailing it on both fronts. Truly a world where they'd made it, but that, of course, took effort.
——
Flowing clouds, brilliant stars.
It was a cultivation world that Chen Zui and the others wanted to visit. Upon arriving, they found themselves unseen. The first thing they saw was this world’s Wang Qianjiao crafting an L8.
Chen Zui rubbed his forehead, Kuang Ye bit back a smile, and Ao Tian watched with gleaming eyes.
This world’s Chen Zui appeared, dressed beautifully as always. After seeing what Wang Qianjiao was doing, he snorted but didn’t say a word—just snorted.
Wang Qianjiao immediately put down what he was holding and began to soothe him: “I’m only responsible for making it. I’ve already taught Junior Brother Liu Feiyun how to put it together. There’s no need for me to handle it personally.”
Chen Zui: “Anyway, you have to make it up to me.”
Wang Qianjiao: “Alright, I’ll compensate you.”
The L8 made for Yu Hong was pretty basic, without any frills. But Yu Hong needed more than that. Although Liu Feiyun hadn’t asked Wang Qianjiao for it, Yu Hong made the request himself.
So Wang Qianjiao handed the completed L8 and the * to each of them. How they chose to use them was up to them.
That night, Liu Feiyun helped Yu Hong stitch the L into place. The reason he asked his senior brother to make it was that he felt everyone wanted their body to be whole. To him, Yu Hong wasn’t a doll—he was human.
“Done,” he said, examining his work. “Eldest Brother is truly amazing.”
Yu Hong, blushing, took out the * and handed it to him: “There’s also this.”
Liu Feiyun looked at the item in surprise, realized what it was, and immediately understood what Yu Hong meant. His eyes reddened, and he pulled Yu Hong into a tight embrace: “Junior brother, you’re so foolish…”
On another mountain, Mo Xingchen and Meng Changqing were quietly scrapping.
They’d been fighting for so long that they were getting sick of it, but something else had become increasingly addictive. Neither was willing to back down, though, so they’d exchange a few casual moves before ending up in each other’s arms, locking lips.
Then they’d cuss each other out even while getting off.
Meng Changqing pressed his hand against Mo Xingchen’s neck: “Let us torment each other for all eternity.”
Mo Xingchen glared at him: “You’re on!”
Ao Tian: Now that’s a unique way to say 'I love you'.
——
"Heavenly spirits, earthly spirits, Taishang Laojun, appear quickly!" Le Ziyou chanted, looking up at the sky. Chen Zui was fighting a ghost and defeated it in under two moves. Having vanquished the malevolent ghost, Chen Zui returned to Le Ziyou's side.
Le Ziyou pointed his peachwood sword forward: "Evil spirit, face your doom!"
The wind rose and then settled.
The family nearby watched in utterly dumbfounded silence.
Le Ziyou retracted his ritual sword and approached the family: "The evil spirit has been eliminated. You can safely live here now."
The family repeatedly expressed their gratitude.
Mi Jin packed up the tools, declined the family's dinner invitation, and left the dilapidated old neighborhood.
The family wandered around the house, marveling: "This master is truly a living saint. The chat group says if poor people seek his help, he doesn’t charge them."
Le Ziyou parted ways with Mi Jin on the way back; he was going to the hospital to visit his grandmother, while Mi Jin was off to a date, promising to visit Grandma when he had time before skipping away cheerfully.
Le Ziyou held Chen Zui's hand: "You've worked hard, my real hero."
Chen Zui: "You’ve been working hard too, burning midnight oil studying every night recently."
Le Ziyou grinned: "Because I want to support myself, Grandma, and you with my own abilities. This time, no more cons. With you here, I have the confidence. I don’t have to constantly scheme for cash like before and can focus on other things."
He looked at Chen Zui: "Give me some time. I won’t let you down."
Chen Zui: "I believe in you."
Kuang Ye unconsciously tightened his grip on Chen Zui's hand. Chen Zui knew what he was thinking—the stab to his own chest was a psychological barrier for Kuang Ye.
"Someone like Le Ziyou is deserving of redemption."
Chen Zui gently rubbed the back of Kuang Ye’s hand: "Let’s move on."
——
What appeared before Chen Zui and the others was no longer the town but a city. The townspeople were relocating, their faces filled with joy, carrying large and small bags into the city.
The population had grown, and the town could no longer accommodate everyone.
Shen Que led a team to secure and clear a district of the city, which would become their new home. As more people joined, they would expand outward from this new base.
Shen Que gazed at the city before him: "One day, everyone from East Town will populate this entire city."
Xiao Xu joked beside him: "Then we can’t call you ‘boss’ anymore—we’ll have to call you ‘mayor.’ Now that's fancy!"
Old Xu: "What if we eventually fill several cities?"
Liang Yingzhang: "Several cities would form a province, and you’d be the governor."
Xiao Xu: "What about several provinces?"
"Form a nation." Liang Yingzhang looked at Shen Que. "Become emperor?"
Hearing "emperor," Old Xu got excited: "Being emperor is great! I know all about it—three palaces of beauties in the harem…"
Before he could finish, Old Lei gave him a swift kick. Old Lei turned back with a grin: "Doctor Chen is back. How’s the kid?"
Chen Zui: "Ate something bad, nothing serious. What were you all talking about?"
Seeing everyone fall silent, Liang Yingzhang deliberately spoke up: "We were talking about Shen Que’s harem…"
Before he could finish, Old Lei gave him a swift kick too—no matter who, if you can’t control your mouth, you get kicked.
Shen Que pulled Chen Zui to his side: "They were talking nonsense about becoming emperor, harems, all kinds of inappropriate talk." He covered Chen Zui’s ears. "Doctor Chen shouldn’t listen. They’ll lead you astray."
Chen Zui didn’t press further.
Break time was over. Shen Que raised his hand: "Alright, rest’s over. Let’s keep moving. We’ll try to move in tonight."
Later, Chen Zui and the others inspected the farmlands. The crops were growing well, and more land had been added.
It was a sight that lifted their spirits.
They left this little world reassured.
——
Arriving at the last beastfolk little world, also their shortest stay, it was still winter. Several bonfires burned brightly at the leopard tribe's gathering grounds.
They discovered something new.
The beastfolk were actually wearing clothes—simple animal hides or leaves, but clearly the beginnings of primitive clothing.
Kuang Ye: "I can already imagine this place becoming a city, with beastfolk walking the streets, using mobile phones, driving cars, wearing all kinds of clothes."
Chen Zui marveled: "It’s truly wondrous."
He squinted and spotted Bai Rongrong. What was a little rabbit doing in the leopard territory?
He pointed it out to Kuang Ye, who was equally surprised. Bai Rongrong was on a leopard’s back, both wearing floral wreaths, and they entered a wooden hut.
The two exchanged astonished looks.
Ao Tian: "Wow, a little rabbit with a big leopard? Now that's something!"
Before dark, the leopard hunting party returned with game. A gray wolf was particularly noticeable, walking beside the most powerful black leopard. Everyone emerged from the treehouses, gathered around the bonfires, and began roasting meat for dinner.
The young leopards crowded around Hui Xue.
——
After traveling through all the little worlds, Chen Zui and the others also left, returning to the Dark Transmigration Bureau.
Only one little world remained unvisited—the ABO world. In that world, Chen Zui had stayed with their Xiao Luchen until her peaceful passing, so there was no reason to return.
But Ao Tian had previously gone to the Bureau leadership about this, spending all his remaining credits after becoming anthropomorphic.
When Chen Zui was about to use all his credits to ask the leadership for one more meeting with Xiao Luchen, Ao Tian jumped in: "Don’t worry, I still have a present for you both."
Ao Tian snapped his fingers dramatically, imitating Chen Zui.
The leadership cooperated, and Xiao Luchen appeared in a column of light before them, looking seventeen or eighteen years old. Upon seeing Chen Zui and the others, she cried out in confusion and delight, "Dad! Dad!"
She burst into tears.
Kuang Ye had sprinted forward the instant she materialized, embracing Xiao Luchen tightly, terrified she might disappear again.
"Dad, what is happening?"
Lu Chen hugged Kuang Ye, tears streaming down her cheeks as she looked toward Chen Zui.
Chen Zui’s eyes reddened. Back then, he had watched helplessly as his child passed away. Though he knew that death was inevitable for everyone, the pain had been seared into his heart.
Ao Tian said, "As long as Xiao Luchen is willing, she can live with you from now on."
Chen Zui had originally thought that even if he spent all his points, he might only get to see Lu Chen once. But now, such an amazing surprise had come his way. He looked at Ao Tian, the system that had always shown him kindness from the very beginning and had offered him so much help along the way.
"Thank you."
"Thank you."
Ao Tian used a tentacle to wipe his tears. "Hey, why are you being so polite with me? You're my big brother, and Xiao Luchen is my niece—I've watched her grow up, after all..."
Though Lu Chen hadn’t fully grasped the situation, she heard what Ao Tian said: "I’m willing! I want to live with my daddies forever!"
Kuang Ye wiped her tears, too choked up to speak.
Chen Zui hugged them both tightly. "Our family will be together forever."
Now, only one thing remained: Ao Tian turning human. Chen Zui and the others, of course, wanted to witness this moment firsthand. Ao Tian was a bit nervous. Even though he had long since shown the Leader the appearance he wanted, he still felt uneasy…
Chen Zui patted his head. "Don’t worry, I still have points left. If you’re not satisfied, we can change it."
Ao Tian felt reassured.
He walked into a room where a three-minute countdown began. During those three minutes, everyone waited with bated breath. Lu Chen also learned some new information—that baby octopus was actually her little uncle.
Well, little uncle it was, then.
Now that her little uncle was about to become human, she secretly glanced around before leaning her head against Kuang Ye’s shoulder, nestling in.
When the three minutes ended, the door opened, and a white mist emerged first, piquing everyone's curiosity. They could barely make out a tall, slender figure in the fog, walking toward them in a pose that was both cool and putting on a show.
Appearing before everyone was a handsome young man with brown hair, green eyes, and a mixed-race charm—a youthful, dewy-faced hunk.
His eyes were captivating peach-blossom eyes, but his sharply arched eyebrows gave him a rebellious, untamed aura.
He was the kind of handsome that looked like a bad boy at first glance.
Ao Tian struck an exaggerated pose. "So, what do you think?"
Lu Chen rushed over immediately. "Handsome! From now on, you’re my real uncle!"
With such a handsome uncle, how many people would pursue him in the future? And to pursue him, they’d have to win her over. Hehehe~
Ao Tian’s confidence soared as he looked at Kuang Ye and Chen Zui.
Kuang Ye began to applaud. Honestly, Ao Tian’s taste was really on point.
Chen Zui said, "Very handsome."
Hearing this from Chen Zui, Ao Tian was completely convinced of his own handsomeness. He stood beside Chen Zui and boasted, "I deliberately set my height one centimeter shorter than yours—out of respect for you, big brother."
Chen Zui chuckled at this.
After looking at him for a moment, Chen Zui hugged him and gave his back a firm pat.
Some things were better left unspoken.
The Leader asked, "Ao Tian, which world do you want to go to?"
Ao Tian scratched his head. "I’ve just gotten a human body. I plan to stay with big brother and the others for a while. I’ll come back later."
Kuang Ye excitedly grabbed his arm. "That’s a great choice!"
Chen Zui was also delighted. He could show Ao Tian the ropes further to prevent him from being bullied or deceived in the future.
The Leader said, "Alright. I’ll send you off now."
The portal to the immortal world opened. The family of four, who'd gained new talents, stepped into it, chatting and laughing as they disappeared into the passage.
The Leader watched, feeling a twinge of envy.
A subordinate approached. "Leader, this is a gift from Chen Zui."
The Leader was pleasantly surprised. He hadn’t expected a gift. Opening it, he found eight million points inside.
The subordinate explained, "It’s not much, but it’s all the points Chen Zui had left."
The Leader was puzzled. "Why does he have so few points left?"
The subordinate replied, "He bought a portal that can take him to any small world."
The Leader nodded. That was indeed a really useful purchase. Looking at the eight million points, he began to understand why Ao Tian was so fond of Chen Zui. This man—
The Leader said, "You’ll temporarily take my place."
He turned and left.
"Leader, where are you going?"
"To check out the human world."
"Leader, when will you be back?"
"I’ll return once I’ve tasted all the joys and sorrows."
