Chapter 76: The White Moonlight Master (14)
byChapter 76: The White Moonlight Master (Part 14)
This mirror was a gift from his master, a peerless artifact capable of revealing every demon and monster in the world. Under its brilliant light, this vile creature would surely have nowhere to hide!
Meng Youyi hurled the mirror into the air. Sensing the sinister energy, it vibrated violently before erupting in a blinding flash, exposing the host’s true form.
As the light faded, a black-gray wolf demon stood revealed. With a savage face, sharp fangs, and spewing a blood-red mist, it sent the temple worshippers screaming in terror as they fled.
The wolf demon, furious at its swift exposure, roared and lunged at Meng Youyi with its bloody maw.
Meng Youyi’s heart leaped in shock, and he instinctively reached for his sword. Yet, no matter how hard he tried, the sword remained stubbornly in its scabbard, refusing to budge.
Watching from the shadows, Yun Jinqiu sighed and shook his head in resignation.
Suddenly, the Frost-Snow Sword shot through the air, its potent immortal energy dispelling the gloom within the temple.
Before the wolf demon could react, it saw only a flash of white. In the next instant, the long sword pierced its heart, pinning it to the wall. It died instantly.
Meng Youyi’s heart swelled with joy as he turned to Yun Jinqiu.
“Master! You’re here!”
Yun Jinqiu gave a slight nod. “Are you alright?”
“I’m fine, Master, rest assured!” Meng Youyi nodded solemnly, then his gaze fell, tinged with disappointment. “But my sword…”
Yun Jinqiu’s tone was calm. “It’s alright, take your time. These things cannot be rushed.” Meng Youyi was, after all, the protagonist of this world; he had his own destiny and opportunities. There was no need to force it.
Clutching the sword to his chest, Meng Youyi silently vowed to draw his fated sword as soon as possible and not disappoint his master.
“Master, has the formation been dealt with?”
Yun Jinqiu nodded. “The remaining fragments are in the temple’s backyard. Let’s go take a look.”
“Okay.”
Meng Youyi, excited, followed his master to the backyard.
The temple’s backyard was desolate, with only a few old locust trees rustling in the eerie wind. These trees were clearly part of the formation, each identical, their branches and leaves meticulously trimmed to face the same direction. All the branches intertwined, cleverly forming a circle that cast the center of the locust trees in deep shadow, impenetrable by sunlight.
Meng Youyi noticed a dark, large pit beneath the locust trees. Beside it lay piles of ash-gray scorched earth, evidently blasted by lightning arts.
“Master, are the remains of that monster in that pit?”
Yun Jinqiu nodded. “No matter how much chaos it caused in life, now it is merely a handful of scorched earth.”
Meng Youyi, still holding his fated sword, stepped forward for a closer look. Yun Jinqiu initially considered stopping him but decided it was probably harmless and let him be.
Standing at the edge of the pit, Meng Youyi peered down. The bottom was charred black, making it impossible to discern its original state.
“Lightning arts are truly profound,” Meng Youyi marveled.
Suddenly, Yun Jinqiu sensed a powerful surge of spiritual energy. He glanced at Meng Youyi, then swiftly leaped forward, pulling him back.
“Look out!”
Meng Youyi’s heart pounded in shock, before he could even process what was happening.
No sooner had the words left his lips than a black energy erupted from the pit, shooting toward Meng Youyi’s brow with blinding speed. Yun Jinqiu shielded Meng Youyi behind him, the Frost-Snow Sword drawn and positioned defensively.
Seeing it could gain no advantage, the black energy turned and soared into the sky, vanishing without a trace.
Standing behind Yun Jinqiu, Meng Youyi was utterly stunned.
“What… what was that just now?”
Yun Jinqiu frowned. “I didn’t expect that remnant to still harbor a trace of lingering will.”
“What? After all that, that monster isn’t completely dead?” Meng Youyi was greatly surprised.
Yun Jinqiu shook his head. “No, it is dead. But its power remains in the mortal world. This could lead to a major catastrophe.” Ordinary monsters didn’t possess such capabilities, and he didn’t recall anything like this in the original story.
“Master, what should we do?” Meng Youyi asked, worried.
“Let’s go. Once you start saving people, you must see it through to the end.” There was no point in hesitating.
“Yes, Master.” Meng Youyi immediately gathered his belongings.
The black energy fled north, passing a grand wedding procession. At its head rode a handsome young man, resplendent in wedding robes, astride a white horse, radiating confidence and joy. The black energy circled above the groom’s head before plunging into his brow.
The groom’s body stiffened. A red glint flashed in his once clear eyes. After a moment of silence, he curved his lips into a hearty smile, perfectly embodying the role of a joyous groom.
Yun Jinqiu, following the black energy, arrived in the capital. He saw the wedding procession and sensed the black energy’s presence. However, after careful consideration, he decided against acting rashly.
Meng Youyi, who had never witnessed a wedding before, couldn’t help but curiously touch and examine everything.
Yun Jinqiu subtly observed the procession, his gaze finally settling on the groom. He was so engrossed in watching the groom that he failed to notice he had become the center of attention on the entire street.
Fortunately, the groom, riding ahead on his white horse, remained oblivious to the commotion behind him.
Yun Jinqiu’s brow furrowed slightly. Just then, a vegetable farmer on his way to the market passed by.
“Excuse me, good sir, whose family is celebrating a wedding?”
The farmer, taken aback by Yun Jinqiu’s striking appearance, stared for a moment before lowering his voice and speaking softly, “You’re not from around here, are you? This is the famous imperial merchant of our capital. This entire street belongs to his family—it’s quite extraordinary.”
Yun Jinqiu nodded. “And the bride?”
“The bride is the daughter of the Minister of the Court of Judicial Review, also a distinguished family of officials and scholars.”
Yun Jinqiu understood. “Thank you, good sir.”
“You’re welcome, no need to be polite.” The farmer scratched the back of his head sheepishly.
Without another word, Yun Jinqiu turned and headed toward the residence of the Minister of the Court of Judicial Review.
Meng Youyi held a handful of silk flowers, all scattered by the flower children in the wedding procession. Finding them beautiful, he had picked them up one by one. But seeing his master about to leave, he immediately dropped the flowers and hurried after him.
“Master, wait for me!”
However, the Minister’s residence was not as festive as the outside suggested.
Although the groom was an imperial merchant, the Minister was still a high-ranking official. For an official’s daughter to marry a merchant was considered marrying beneath her station. Yet, it was an arranged marriage from childhood, and the young lady, despite her reluctance, had no choice but to accept her fate.
Before the wedding procession arrived, Yun Jinqiu decided to first understand the situation.
Meng Youyi stepped forward and knocked on the door of the Minister’s residence.
After a few knocks, a servant appeared.
“Who is it?”
