Chapter 91: I Said the Night Sky Is Beautiful

Su Zheng walked toward Luo Yunchen with a smile and said, "Aren't you busy? Why did you come over? How long have you been waiting?"

Luo Yunchen had already scanned Su Zheng from head to toe. Confirming that he was indeed fine, his gaze fell on the corner of Su Zheng's mouth, where a tiny crumb of pastry was stuck, so small it was almost imperceptible.

Luo Yunchen raised his hand, gently brushing his thumb across Su Zheng's lips to the corner of his mouth, wiping away the tiny pastry crumb. Without answering Su Zheng's question, he asked softly, "Is Gege hungry?"

Su Zheng caught a glimpse of Luo Yunchen's fingers out of the corner of his eye and understood why Luo Yunchen had asked.

However, Su Zheng didn't want Luo Yunchen to have any further contact with the people or matters in the courtyard behind them. So, without even mentioning the pastry, he walked forward, gesturing for Luo Yunchen to follow, and asked, "I'm fine. Are you done with your work?"

Luo Yunchen stepped forward to follow Su Zheng, glancing at Su Zheng's dangling hand. His thoughts wandered, and his fingers seemed to move of their own accord, hooking his pinky finger around Su Zheng's, pressing the backs of their hands tightly together.

A smile involuntarily curved at the corner of Luo Yunchen's mouth. Walking shoulder to shoulder with Su Zheng, he replied, "I've given the household instructions. The military camp still needs some time to reorganize."

The burning heat on the back of his hand immediately told Su Zheng what Luo Yunchen had done. This time, Su Zheng neither dodged nor refused. He kept his arm hanging down, slightly curving his pinky to lock their fingers closer together.

Back at Luo Yunchen's courtyard, Luo Yunchen ordered dinner to be prepared and said to Su Zheng, "I had fresh lamb marinated at noon. I'll make it for you right now, Gege."

Su Zheng nodded. "By the way, did you have people renovate the buildings in the manor?"

"Yes. We don't need that many courtyards. The ones that were recently renovated will be torn down and repurposed."

"Then, could you find a quiet place to build two secret rooms for me? I need to work on some things."

Luo Yunchen was curious. "What will Gege make?"

    "Wine and weapons."

"Wine? Weapons?" Luo Yunchen couldn't see how these two things were connected. "Is Gege planning to brew wine like the tavern in the southern city?"

Su Zheng shook his head. "No, this wine isn't for drinking. It's for the military medics. If used well, it can save the lives of severely injured soldiers, giving them at least a thirty percent better chance of survival."

Luo Yunchen was startled, but quickly thrilled by the promise of that thirty percent hope. That thirty percent meant not just one person’s life, but the potential to save tens of thousands of soldiers!

Seeing Luo Yunchen's excitement, Su Zheng smiled and patted his shoulder. "Don’t get too excited too soon. I’ll give it a try, but I can't guarantee success."

Luo Yunchen immediately reined in his excitement, not wanting to put pressure on Su Zheng. He grabbed Su Zheng's hand, interlacing their fingers, and lowered his head to kiss the back of Su Zheng's hand. His eyes were tender and calm. "Gege doesn't need to guarantee anything to me. Just treat it as something to pass the time. Do it if you feel like it, stop if you don't."

Su Zheng said no more and nodded in agreement.

The evening meal was sumptuous, and Su Zheng ate heartily.

Under the night sky, Luo Yunchen carried Su Zheng and flew up to the highest rooftop to admire the moon.

A gentle night breeze blew, the moon was bright and the stars were sparse. In the distance, the myriad lights of the city flickered like dots of firefly light in the darkness.

Su Zheng looked into the distance and couldn't help but remark, "So beautiful."

Luo Yunchen wrapped his arms around Su Zheng, his gaze fixated on Su Zheng's face, tracing every detail of his profile. He echoed, "Mm, truly beautiful."

Su Zheng turned to look at him and laughed. "I said the night sky is beautiful. What are you looking at?"

Luo Yunchen gazed at Su Zheng with tender longing and smiled. "I'm looking at my night sky. It's so beautiful I can't look away."

Su Zheng was speechless. "...Such a sweet tongue. Did you sneak some candied fruit?"

"Ah, I forgot. Why don't you taste it yourself, Gege?"

Under the night, high above the rooftops, two long silhouettes pressed tightly together, as if they would never part even between heaven and earth.

When the kiss ended, Su Zheng rested his forehead against Luo Yunchen's, panting slightly.

After calming down a little, Su Zheng said softly, "Chen, it's too high up here. My legs are a bit weak."

    Luo Yunchen chuckled, his tone coaxing. "Then I'll take you back, ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ..."

    ...........

Su Zheng pinched Luo Yunchen's waist, but there wasn't an ounce of extra flesh, so he couldn't get a grip and gave up, refusing, "No, I want to stay a bit longer."

Since they had the whole night, Luo Yunchen didn't insist on taking him back immediately. "Alright, if Gege likes it, we'll stay a while longer."

Su Zheng quickly changed the subject. "Are you going to the military camp tomorrow?"

    "No rush."

"You should go. Don't stay with me too much these next two days."

    Luo Yunchen said nothing.

    .................

Su Zheng sighed softly and coaxed, "Listen to me. We need to give him an opening so we can root them all out."

"No! I can't rest easy! Nothing is more important than Gege's safety!"

"There's no need to worry. I won't risk my life. I have my own ways of protecting myself. Besides, what he wants most is to regain his position above the masses. He will either eliminate you directly or capture me to threaten you. So he won't come at me to kill me right away. With Ying Yi and the others by my side, and your ambush on the periphery, we'll definitely pull out all his minions."

Luo Yunchen stared intently at Su Zheng, his lips pressed together, saying nothing.

Seeing that Luo Yunchen still wouldn't speak, Su Zheng grew anxious. "Chen, you understand. Only by destroying all his claws and fangs can we have no worries behind us, make him suffer, and let him slowly die. You can't let my efforts go to waste... Mmm!"

Luo Yunchen lowered his head and sealed that mouth that kept moving, preventing it from forming complete words.

Luo Yunchen rejoiced in Su Zheng's kindness toward him, but he also panicked at such goodness.

He really wanted to tell Gege: you don't need to be so good to me—just a little kindness would already satisfy him.

He would rather trade all that kindness for Gege to stay, to stay by his side, and never leave him again!
