Chapter 14: The Hanging Heart Finally Died
byChapter 14 The Heart Hanging in the Air Finally Died
What are you hiding from?
Qin Yan wedged himself between his legs, traced his trembling lashes with a fingertip, and asked, flashing a coaxing smile, "Su Zhiyu, are you drunk?"
Su Zhiyu was too far gone to catch what he said, let alone reply.
"So... want me to stay with you?"
Still no answer.
Yeah, he was wasted.
Qin Yan got bolder. He tilted his head, leaned in until his mouth was right by Su Zhiyu's, and enunciated each word, "So... can I kiss you?"
Thump-thump.
Somewhere, a heart was pounding like a drum. Even though the guy was drunk, Qin Yan still held his breath, nerves on edge.
Maybe... he should just make the first move?
I mean, the guy was wasted. A kiss on the forehead counts, and a kiss on the lips counts too. Same thing either way, right?
"Su Zhiyu, if you don't say anything, I'll take that as agreement. Don't come crying to me tomorrow morning."
Just as Qin Yan was gearing up to go for it, Su Zhiyu seemed to catch on to the danger and suddenly sank his teeth into Qin Yan's lip.
"Ow..."
His delicate upper lip split open in no time.
Qin Yan was on the verge of tears. If you didn't want to kiss, fine, but why do you keep biting people? Were you a dog in your last life?
"Qin Yan."
"!" Qin Yan's eyes flew open in shock.
Su Zhiyu let go of his lip, just mumbled a name, and then conked out.
"..."
Qin Yan wished he could bite him right back.
Whatever.
After a beat, Qin Yan quickly wiped his mouth, threw back the covers and crawled into bed. He reached out, wrapped a long arm around the guy, and hauled him into his arms.
Su Zhiyu squirmed a few times but couldn't get loose.
"Hold still." Qin Yan murmured a low warning against his ear. His hot breath hit the sensitive gland, and the guy squirming in his arms instantly froze.
He actually stopped.
Qin Yan breathed a quiet sigh of relief.
If he kept wriggling like that, Qin Yan would really lose it and turn into that animalistic dumbass of an original owner.
Qin Yan wasn't drunk, but he'd had more to drink than Su Zhiyu. Now that he was lying down, his head was spinning, especially with a beauty in his arms—even sleeping felt better.
Meanwhile, downstairs.
The servant shut off the video. It had just finished playing on fast-forward. The final shot panned across the recording site. In the background, unnoticed, someone was carrying another person and bolting out, darting past the camera in a blur.
...
The next morning.
Still half-asleep, Su Zhiyu felt someone breathing against his neck, and any leftover drowsiness vanished in an instant.
He snapped his eyes open and instinctively sat up, but the moment he moved, an arm around his waist pulled him back into that embrace.
"Ugh..."
He let out a muffled groan, and Qin Yan's sleepy murmur came from beside his ear: "Be good, don't move. Sleep a little more."
What?
Be good?
Su Zhiyu froze stiff, not daring to move. He was stunned for a full five seconds before angrily throwing off the hand around his waist.
"Qin Yan!"
He practically gritted out those two words.
Qin Yan woke up too.
Su Zhiyu's breathing was erratic: "You..."
"I didn't do anything." Qin Yan explained as if it were routine. "Don't you remember? Last night you were drunk and kept pulling me to talk. I wanted to leave but couldn't."
"What?"
Su Zhiyu's furious expression gradually froze, a hint of confusion appearing in his eyes.
Seeing his reaction, Qin Yan seemed to think of something. Suppressing his excitement, he probed carefully: "You... don't remember?"
Su Zhiyu remained silent.
Holy crap.
Qin Yan almost took off.
The Omega male lead gets blackout drunk? What had he missed?
"Last night..."
"Last night you said you didn't want to be alone and asked me to stay and sleep with you. I refused, but you wouldn't let me go. Seeing as you were a drunk mess, this young master graciously stayed."
"..."
"Don't tell me you don't even remember that?" Qin Yan's eyes widened in shock.
Su Zhiyu said nothing.
Qin Yan bounced up from the bed, pointed at his broken lip, and said with a look of indignation: "What about this then? Last night you threw a drunken tantrum and wanted to kiss me. This young master's lip was bitten raw by you. Do you know I almost had my face ruined?"
Su Zhiyu's heart, which had been hanging in suspense, finally died.
His cold expression cracked bit by bit, the color draining from the young man's face in an instant. It cycled through several emotions before landing on sheer humiliation.
How could he have...?
Qin Yan: For real? Is kissing me really that hard to accept?
The two of them fell into an awkward silence.
Su Zhiyu barely managed to keep his swaying body upright, his usually straight spine forced to slump, unable to lift his head to look at the mark on Qin Yan's lips.
Did he really do it?
Apart from himself, there was no one else in the villa who would dare bite Qin Yan—let alone on the lips...
Qin Yan felt conflicted.
He watched Su Zhiyu's expression shift again and again, turning worse and worse, until it finally settled into a dazed, violated look.
What the hell?
It wasn't like they hadn't kissed before.
Qin Yan couldn't quite figure out where the dull ache in his chest was coming from. He grabbed his clothes and raked a hand through his hair in frustration. "I'm not asking you to take responsibility."
With that, he walked out.
Su Zhiyu's hand beneath the blanket clenched into a fist, his already pale face turning even more ashen.
Was he... mad?
...
"Young master, why are you in such a bad mood so early? Did that Su Zhiyu upset you again?"
Qin Yan shot the servant a look. "Cut the chatter. Save a portion of breakfast for later."
"Yes, young master."
The butler rushed in. "Young master, young master, Dr. Li has arrived."
Dr. Li had just stepped inside when he noticed the mark on Qin Yan's lips, a knowing smile on his face. "Oh? What happened to your lips, young master? Get bitten by a mosquito?"
"Yeah, bitten."
"My, how strange. It's almost November—how are there still mosquitoes? That shouldn't be possible."
Qin Yan was about to snap back, but when he saw the teasing look on Dr. Li's face, he immediately backed off.
Seeing him so down, Dr. Li stopped teasing him. While deftly opening his case and preparing the medicine, he couldn't help asking, "What's wrong with the young master? Had a falling out with Mr. Su?"
At the mention of that name, Qin Yan finally glanced at him. "It has nothing to do with him."
"Tsk, you young folks are so stubborn."
"Keep running your mouth and see if you still have a job. If not, get out."
"I'll stay, I'll stay." Dr. Li immediately backed down. "Don't worry, young master. This bite mark isn't deep—it'll fade in two or three days. It won't affect the shoot."
"Mm."
Qin Yan answered absentmindedly, then suddenly snapped out of it and hurled a throw pillow at him. "I told you it has nothing to do with Su Zhiyu! What the hell are you talking about?"
Dr. Li didn't dare dodge, letting out an awkward chuckle. "I never said it was Mr. Su who bit you."
"You—"
"My bad, my bad. Don't get angry, young master. Too much liver fire isn't good—it can easily lead to accidents."
Su Zhiyu stood quietly on the stairs, overhearing the entire conversation clearly.
After treating the wound, as the doctor was about to leave, he spotted Su Zhiyu and gave him a polite nod. "Good morning, Mr. Su."
Su Zhiyu replied quietly, "Morning, Dr. Li."
"I'll be off then."
Qin Yan turned around and saw Su Zhiyu coming down the stairs. He was only wearing a thin gray robe, his fair, slender calves exposed, the hem swaying with each step.
His hair was a bit messy, his eyes slightly red, with faint dark circles underneath—the disheveled look of someone who'd just woken up from a rough night.
But even in that messy state, it still made Qin Yan's heart skip a beat.
Even though they lived under the same roof, aside from meals, they didn't see each other much.
Whenever Su Zhiyu appeared, he was always neat and put-together. Except for the first night, Qin Yan had hardly ever seen him in a robe.
It carried a bit more warmth than his usual cold demeanor.
Made him seem more human.
"You—"
