Chapter 32 Taking Credit
byChapter 32 Taking Credit
Leng Xiyue returned to the kitchen and brought all the cooked dishes to the table.
The thought of dining at the same table as the father of her children made her feel uneasy, as if she might inadvertently betray the existence of her six children.
Although Gong Xinyi believed the children to be monkeys, the truth cannot be hidden forever, and the more she interacted with him, the sooner the truth would come out.
When Gong Xinyi and Wang Li came back together, Leng Xiyue made up her mind to keep her distance from Gong Xinyi after this meal.
The farther away from him, the safer the children would feel.
"Hmm, this looks delicious!" Gong Xinyi couldn't help but praise upon seeing the table full of dishes.
Wang Li said with a coy face, "Oh, it's nothing really, just some home cooking. I can make even more delicious dishes. Next time, I'll definitely have Mr. Gong try them."
Implicitly, Wang Li was taking all the credit for the dishes, while Leng Xiyue seemed to have merely assisted in the kitchen.
Leng Xiyue didn't mind Wang Li taking credit for her work, as she didn't expect any development with Gong Xinyi anyway, since it was simply unrealistic.
Gong Xinyi ignored Wang Li and asked Leng Xiyue, "Which dish did you make?"
Which dish? Leng Xiyue glanced over the table; aside from the sweet and sour lotus root, Wang Li had a hand in every other dish.
Before Leng Xiyue could answer, Wang Li interjected, "Today's meals were all made by Lili, Xiyue just helped out."
"Is that so?" Gong Xinyi sat down, not quite satisfied.
Noticing the rice was somewhat hard, he frowned slightly, "Is this rice undercooked?"
"Ah! Is it? The rice was cooked by Xiyue. Oh dear, she must have used too little water, I didn't notice."
Gong Xinyi picked up a strand of potato strips with his chopsticks, his expression darkening, "Are these potato strips? They're so thick."
Wang Li quickly blamed Leng Xiyue, "Oh my, why didn't you cut them thinner? I thought your knife skills were better than mine."
Leng Xiyue raised an eyebrow but said nothing.
Gong Xinyi served himself a bowl of rib soup, tasted a small sip, and frowned, "It's a bit salty."
"Oh, the salt was added by Xiyue." Wang Li then turned to Leng Xiyue, "Why didn't you put less salt?"
Leng Xiyue remained silent, pushing a plate of sweet and sour lotus root towards Gong Xinyi, gesturing for him to try it.
Gong Xinyi immediately understood that the sweet and sour lotus root must have been solely made by Leng Xiyue.
Just as he was about to taste it, Wang Li stopped him, saying, "Men shouldn't eat lotus roots. There's an old saying, 'Women should not stop eating lotus for three days, men should not stop eating ginger.' Lotus roots nourish yin and blood, making them more suitable for women."
Gong Xinyi's gaze darkened, "Since ginger is so important for men, why didn't you fry me a dish of ginger?"
"..." Wang Li was at a loss for words.
Leng Xiyue said, "Lotus roots not only nourish yin and blood but also clear heat and detoxify, contain rich vitamins and dietary fiber. Eating lotus roots regularly can whiten skin, improve anemia, and relieve indigestion."
"So it has so many benefits!" Gong Xinyi's lips curled up in pleasure, he picked up a slice of lotus root and elegantly placed it in his mouth.
"Hmm, not too salty or bland, fragrant and sweet with a slight sourness, the variety of flavors are just right, truly a delicacy."
Hearing such praise, Leng Xiyue felt somewhat embarrassed.
Wang Li hurriedly said, "Actually, this dish was made by both Xiyue and me. Since Mr. Gong likes it, we'll make it for you again next time."
Leng Xiyue never expected Wang Li to be such a schemer. Wang Li claimed participation in any dish Gong Xinyi approved of, even if she hadn't contributed. And for anything Gong Xinyi slightly disliked, Wang Li would shift all blame to Leng Xiyue.
Did she really think Leng Xiyue was a pushover?
Just as she was about to question Wang Li about her actual involvement in the sweet and sour lotus root, Gong Xinyi spoke up for her.
"Wang Li, this sweet and sour lotus root... who added the sugar and salt?"
"Xiyue," Wang Li answered.
"And who added the vinegar?"
"Xiyue."
"Who sliced the lotus roots?"
"Xiyue."
"Then who cooked it?"
"Xiyue."
"If everything was done by Xiyue, then why say it was made together?" Gong Xinyi's expression turned icy.
