Chapter 11: Pressing Foreheads Together
byChapter 11: Pressing Foreheads Together
The chaos came too suddenly; the sound of gunfire still rang in Sheng Xiyang's ears when his ears were suddenly covered.
Those loud noises instantly turned into muffled sounds. He raised his head in a daze and saw chaos in the store, with a person lying at the entrance, bleeding.
Although his ears were covered, his nose still caught the strong scent of blood.
Xiyang grew up in peaceful times and had never seen such a scene before; his body began to tremble uncontrollably.
In the next moment, someone lifted him up and pressed his head against their chest, preventing him from seeing the scene.
Xiyang trembled for a long time before slowly coming to his senses.
He was now being held by Sheng Ai, who was pressing his head down so he couldn't see anything. The tip of his nose no longer smelled the blood but only the faint scent of sandalwood from Sheng Ai.
Xiyang closed his eyes, and after regaining his composure, he slightly shifted his gaze to look at the store entrance.
There was only a pool of blood left; the person had been dragged away.
Everyone in the store was in a state of panic, no one could muster the appetite to eat anymore, and they all left hurriedly. The owner looked terrified, staring blankly at the broken glass and the bloodstain at the entrance.
Xiyang slightly pulled back, leaving Sheng Ai's embrace.
At that moment, the noise from outside and the smell of blood rushed in all at once.
Sheng Ai glanced at the duck blood soup on the table and asked Xiyang, "Do you still want to eat? If you do, I can have it packed."
Xiyang shook his head vigorously.
With everything that had happened, who could still eat?
Sheng Ai didn't say anything more, paid the bill, and led Xiyang out of the small restaurant.
As they passed the bloodstain, Xiyang's body trembled lightly, and an image flashed through his mind—of himself lying in a pool of blood.
Sheng Ai grabbed Xiyang's wrist and said, "Don't look."
Xiyang followed closely behind Sheng Ai.
When they returned to the office, Sheng Ai did not let go of Xiyang's wrist. The secretary approached, looking anxious, "Mr. Sheng, why did you go out alone? Outside..."
"Help me check," Sheng Ai said sternly to the secretary, "who died in today's shooting on East Road."
The secretary paused, then quickly left upon realizing the seriousness.
Sheng Ai turned to Xiyang, "Let me take you home first."
"Huh?" Xiyang was taken aback, "I... I can stay here too..."
Sheng Ai glanced at Xiyang and ruffled his hair, "It's safer at home."
Xiyang didn't argue further.
Sheng Ai drove him home. At the gate of Sheng Mansion, Xiyang got out of the car and watched as Sheng Ai prepared to drive away.
After a moment, Xiyang suddenly remembered something and ran a few steps after the car, "Brother, brother!"
The car stopped.
Xiyang ran to the driver's side and leaned in, "Brother, be careful."
Sheng Ai, with one hand on the steering wheel, looked at Xiyang.
The May sunlight shone through the window, making Xiyang's silhouette blurry yet radiant. Through his glasses, Sheng Ai gazed at Xiyang for a long time before reaching out to ruffle his hair.
Sheng Ai said, "Got it, I'll be careful."
Xiyang added, "Remember to come back early. I'll wait for you to have dinner at home."
Sheng Ai's movements paused again.
He hadn't expected Xiyang to say such words.
After a moment of silence, Sheng Ai smiled faintly and gently pressed his forehead against Xiyang's, "Got it, go back now, be good."
Only after Sheng Ai drove away did Xiyang raise his hand to touch his own forehead.
It felt strange, what was going on.
His heart was beating a bit faster.
