Chapter 46 How Did I…
byChapter 46 How Did I...
The bedroom was silent.
Sheng Xiyang was seriously changing his clothes on one side, while Sheng Ai stood with his back to him, holding a book and leaning against the window, reading.
Actually, Sheng Ai wasn't sure why he had turned away.
He held the book, his gaze falling on it, but after a while, he realized that the book was upside down.
Sheng Ai silently flipped the book over, inadvertently raising his eyes to glance out the window, only to see Sheng Xiyang's reflection in the glass.
Sheng Xiyang was putting on a shirt.
On the slightly blurry glass, only for a moment, the shadow of Sheng Xiyang slipping into his shirt was reflected.
Sheng Ai just wanted to glance out the window unintentionally.
But once he caught sight of Sheng Xiyang's shadow, he couldn't look away.
He watched motionlessly as Sheng Xiyang bent down to button his shirt. There wasn't really anything interesting about it; they were both men. But for some reason, perhaps because the bedroom was too quiet, or maybe... because when Sheng Xiyang bent down to button his shirt, a glimpse of his neck and a flash of skin through the half-open shirt was revealed.
Sheng Ai subtly adjusted his glasses and lowered his eyebrows again.
After Sheng Xiyang finished dressing, he said to Sheng Ai, "I'm done, brother."
Sheng Ai paused before turning around.
He walked up to Sheng Xiyang and helped adjust his collar, scrutinizing for a moment before picking up the tie beside him, helping Sheng Xiyang stand up his collar and tie it.
Sheng Xiyang looked at Sheng Ai.
The light from above poured down, falling on their shoulders and faces.
After adjusting the collar, Sheng Ai said, "Done. There's a full-length mirror over there; you can go take a look."
Sheng Xiyang walked over.
He had never worn formal suits before; this was his first time. It looked good, but Sheng Xiyang always felt he wasn't tall enough, always a bit shorter than Sheng Ai.
Thinking this, Sheng Xiyang glanced at Sheng Ai through the mirror.
Sheng Ai was wearing casual clothes, but even so, he looked particularly handsome.
Sheng Xiyang withdrew his gaze, telling himself not to look anymore. He turned around and said to Sheng Ai, "I think it looks good, but I doubt I'll have many chances to wear a suit. This set might just hang there."
Sheng Ai looked at Sheng Xiyang for a while, then smiled gently, "There will be opportunities. When you take over Sheng's Trading Company in the future, there will be many occasions where you need to wear a suit."
Sheng Xiyang: "Oh..."
He had no intention of getting into finance or business. As a proud liberal arts student, how could he bow to mathematics? His math score in the college entrance exam barely passed, and it had been two years since he last touched math. How could he possibly do well in management?
Sheng Xiyang picked up his clothes and said to Sheng Ai, "Thank you, brother. I really like the clothes!"
Watching the door close, Sheng Ai fell silent for a moment.
He shifted his gaze and looked out the window again.
On the blurry glass, his own reflection appeared.
Sheng Ai slowly walked back to the window and, after a long while, raised his hand, pressing his palm against the cool glass.
That chill was indescribable, reaching deep into his heart, making it tighten slightly.
The window wasn't completely closed, so Sheng Ai heard Sheng Xiyang's voice coming from the garden below.
Clear and bright.
Sheng Xiyang said, "Xiao Xiu, look at my new suit. Does it look good?"
Xiao Xiu exclaimed, "Wow, it looks great, Young Master! It fits you perfectly!"
Sheng Ai slightly lowered his eyes.
Through the window glass, he saw Sheng Xiyang's shadow in the garden, but couldn't see Sheng Xiyang himself.
That shadow seemed to spread its arms and spin around, exuding a lively aura even in its reflection.
Sheng Ai gripped the window handle with one hand.
With a slight force, he tightly shut the window.
For a moment, the bedroom fell into a silent stillness.
Sheng Ai closed his eyes, his forehead lightly touching the glass. In the instant all sounds receded like a tide, the sound of his heart beating became clearer.
After an unknown amount of time, Sheng Ai sighed softly.
With his eyes closed, he murmured:
"How did I..."
The sentence trailed off, leaving only the ticking of the floor clock in the silent bedroom.
