Chapter 15: The More You Conceal, the More You Reveal

In the evening, Sheng Xiyang took a shower in his room and was drying his hair. With nothing else to do, he pushed the door open and went out.

On his way downstairs, he encountered Aunt Zhao.

Seeing him, Aunt Zhao was so startled she almost took a detour.

Sheng Xiyang scratched his head, unable to do anything about it, and continued walking down.

He lived on the third floor. As he passed the second floor, he faintly heard voices coming from one of the rooms.

Sheng Xiyang stopped in his tracks.

Standing there, he could hear Lord Sheng Ming's voice coming from inside the room.

Curious, Sheng Xiyang stepped back and leaned against the corner of the wall.

Inside the room, Sheng Ming asked, "Why did you throw such a tantrum tonight?"

"There's no reason," Sheng Ai replied coolly. "They were treating Xiyang poorly; I had every right to be angry."

Sheng Ming sighed, "Even the servants know about this. What are you trying to hide?"

"I'm not hiding anything," Sheng Ai's voice sounded unusually cold. "He is my brother, and they are spreading rumors."

    Sheng Ming remained silent.

After a long pause, Sheng Ming spoke again, his voice heavy and hoarse, "Even if everyone tells you that he isn't your brother, you wouldn't believe them, would you?"

Sheng Xiyang's heart skipped a beat.

Silence filled the room for a long time.

Then, Sheng Ai softly asked, "If he isn't my brother, then where is my real brother?"

Sheng Ming was momentarily at a loss for words.

In the room, Sheng Ai sat in a chair, slowly bending over with his hands covering his eyes. "I'm not stupid, Father. I've had my doubts too. I've wondered if he really isn't. But I can't bear to think about it because if he isn't the real Sheng Xiyang, then where is the real one..."

His hand pressed against his glasses, his voice trembling slightly, "All these years, where has my brother been? Who can tell me? Where should I look for him?"

    Sheng Ming was speechless.

It was he who had abandoned them, and it was Sheng Ai who had desperately searched for his brother, not him. Now, he had no right to speak.

Sheng Ai sat in the chair for a long time before saying, "I have no choice."

His voice was soft and hoarse.

Because he had no choice, because he couldn't find him, he could only do this.

If Sheng Xiyang truly was his brother, then all the kindness he had shown him over the years had not been misplaced. But if Sheng Xiyang wasn't his brother... he was powerless.

What else could he do? After all these years of searching, finding him now seemed impossible.

He could only treat Sheng Xiyang as his real brother, whether true or not. If he wasn't, then he could use this opportunity to make amends, as a form of atonement.

After a long while, Sheng Ai said hoarsely, "Father, regardless of whether he is the real Sheng Xiyang or not, I won't change how I treat him. Even if he isn't, I don't care because I want the family that found the real Sheng Xiyang to treat him well, just like I do."

Pausing briefly, he murmured softly, "I have no other choice."

Sheng Ming's lips trembled slightly, "Alright."

    He finally understood his son.

When Sheng Xiyang's temper was terrible, Sheng Ming had even thought of kicking him out of the mansion. He never understood why Sheng Ai always protected Sheng Xiyang.

    Now, he finally understood.

Sheng Xiyang, standing by the door, heard every word Sheng Ai said.

He realized he had probably misjudged Sheng Ai, thinking him to be some kind of manipulative character.

In the end, he was just a pitiable older brother.

Just as he was lost in thought, the door to the adjacent room suddenly opened.

Sheng Xiyang jumped in surprise and turned to see Sheng Ai looking at him.
