Chapter 100
by 远行不渡Chapter 100
Gong Nianan murmured, "This can't be true, this can't be true."
Gong Nianan swayed unsteadily. Tan Yunfei, seeing this, actually took a step back. By the time she realized what was happening, Gong Nianan had already been steadied by Shen Bingyan.
Shen Bingyan had also heard Lin Tingyue's inner thoughts. She muttered "how stupid" under her breath to Gong Nianan before slinging an arm around her shoulders and asking Tan Yunfei, "If you really were the Shen family's daughter, if you really were Shen Bingyan, why wouldn’t your brother or the mother who adopted you come to such an important occasion today?"
Shen Bingyan's intimidating presence made Tan Yunfei shrink back slightly, but she quickly used her frightened reaction to her advantage, deliberately playing the victim.
"My brother and my mom had very important matters to attend to. With Sis Nianan by my side, they felt at ease. Besides, I thought Mom and Dad would believe me, but I never expected... I never expected..."
Tan Yunfei’s voice cracked, trailing off as tears welled in her eyes.
However, Shen Donghua and Mo Yue remained cold and indifferent. Mo Yue said, "Child, cut the act in front of us."
Shen Donghua and Mo Yue weren’t just husband and wife—they were also partners who had built their business from the ground up. After fighting side by side in the business world for so many years, how could they not see through Tan Yunfei's scheming?
If it weren’t for hearing Lin Tingyue's inner thoughts and wanting to figure out what was going on with Gong Nianan, they would have already had Tan Yunfei thrown out.
Over the years, Gong Nianan had spent her free time accompanying and comforting the couple, cheering them up and actively searching for Shen Bingyan outside. In Mo Yue and Shen Donghua's eyes, Gong Nianan was as good as their own daughter by now.
Mo Yue thought to herself, Gong Nianan's boyfriend is no simple man.
Tan Yunfei stared at Mo Yue in disbelief. "I'm not acting..."
When Mo Yue ignored her, she turned to grab Gong Nianan's hand. "Sis Nianan, you have to believe me."
"Oh please, you’re not acting? You and your sister have already played everyone for fools."
"First, you saw the Shen family's search notice online, asked around, and discovered that the girlfriend of the man who idolizes your sister as his 'white moonlight' was actually the childhood friend of the Shen family's daughter. After telling your sister, she came up with a scheme—she met up with Gong Nianan's boyfriend, made her sister sound as pitiful as possible, and when the man was moved, she conveniently asked him to do her a favor."
"Of course he’d help when his 'white moonlight' asked for something. To ensure Gong Nianan would give her all and to prevent her from discovering their relationship, your sister even had the man pass you off as his adopted sister."
"After doing such a big favor for his 'white moonlight,' naturally, the two had to get intimate. Right now, they're upstairs locking lips... That's right, both of them are here—it's just that the 'white moonlight' can't show her face, and the man couldn’t help himself, so..."
No wonder.
She always felt like something heavy was pressing down on her head—turns out, two idiots had plopped a hat right on her head.
In disgust, Gong Nianan yanked her hand away, pulled out her phone, and walked out of the hall while calling her boyfriend, Peng Chengze.
The call connected, and Gong Nianan asked, "Where are you?"
"The meeting isn't over yet. How’s my sister doing? Is everything alright?"
"What do you think?"
"Nianan, I know—with you handling it, it’ll definitely work out. I must’ve been a saint in my past life to have such an amazing girlfriend like you."
Through clenched teeth, Gong Nianan replied flatly, "Likewise."
Watching Gong Nianan walk away, Tan Yunfei started freaking out. She darted in front of Gong Nianan and asked anxiously, "Sis Nianan, where are you going?"
From the other end of the phone, her boyfriend asked in confusion, "Is that Yunfei I hear?"
Without changing her expression, Gong Nianan replied, "Your sister won’t let go of me. I’m going to the bathroom, and she’s afraid I’ll abandon her."
"Oh... got it."
Gong Nianan hung up the phone and looked at Tan Yunfei, asking coldly, "What do you want?"
What the hell?
Just moments ago, Gong Nianan had seemed ready to throw everything away for her—so why did she suddenly act like a completely different person?
Did she figure something out?
Impossible.
Her sister had always been careful. Gong Nianan was just an airheaded heiress.
Tan Yunfei didn’t answer. Gong Nianan asked, "What are you thinking?"
"She’s thinking suckers like you—rich and dumb—are a dying breed. Not only do you support your boyfriend, but he uses your money to help her and her sister."
Gong Nianan was so mad she could only laugh.
Shen Bingyan, who stood beside her, whispered, "Get a grip. After all this time, you’re still this naive."
Gong Nianan looked at Shen Bingyan, tears nearly spilling over. Ughhh, over a decade ago, Shen Bingyan had scolded her the same way.
She’d even said Gong Nianan was too stupid to run the family business—but not to worry, because she’d help her.
She’d been a total fool.
First, she’d teach those two lowlifes a lesson, then apologize to Shen Bingyan and her uncle and aunt.
No way was Lin Tingyue missing this drama.
She chased after them too.
With Lin Tingyue gone, Lin Xiawan—the world’s most devoted sister—naturally followed.
Song Hezhu grabbed Huo Hanyun and slipped into the elevator just as the doors shut.
Gong Nianan frowned. Did she really need an entourage?
But she was in too much of a hurry to deal with that trashy pair to care.
Tan Yunfei helplessly watched the group leave. Wait, weren’t they just headed to the bathroom? Wasn’t there one on the first floor?
Baffled, Tan Yunfei texted her sister, only to find out her sister was already on the second floor.
She hammered out a reply, but it was too late.
Gong Nianan had barged in on the shameless couple.
The young lady might not have been the sharpest tool, but she didn’t hesitate—landing a slap on the guy, then the girl.
They didn’t even see it coming before they were struck, yelping in shock, "The hell was that?"
Gong Nianan hissed through gritted teeth, "Me!"
That voice… why did it sound so familiar?
Peng Chengze finally got a good look—but damn, he wanted to unsee it.
After a three-second hesitation, Peng Chengze said, "Nian’an, listen to me..."
"Explain this. Your girlfriend is on the first floor, yet you're kissing another woman on the second. I'd like to hear how you justify that."
"I..."
Though his white moonlight was important, every bit of food he ate, every piece of clothing he wore, and every roof over his head came from Gong Nian’an.
If Gong Nian’an broke up with him, he would lose everything and hit rock bottom.
"Nian’an, it's all her fault! She came onto me, and no matter how I tried to push her away, she wouldn't let go!"
Tan Yunxue looked at Peng Chengze, who was frantically pointing at her, in shock.
"Fine, Peng Chengze. Since you're being heartless, don’t blame me for fighting back," Tan Yunxue turned to Gong Nian’an. "You probably don’t know that a year ago, Peng Chengze started making moves on me. He kept setting up meetings with me and bought me gifts with your money."
"Oh?" Gong Nian’an curled her lips into a mocking smile. "Peng Chengze, what do you have to say?"
"That’s a lie! It has to be a lie!"
"I have text messages!"
"You scheming bitch!"
"You probably don’t know this," Gong Nian’an cut in, "her sister *is* her real sister. She's played you."
Peng Chengze froze, then snarled, "Tan Yunxue, you tricked me on purpose. I'll end you!"
The two started throwing punches.
For some reason, watching them tear each other apart was pretty damn satisfying.
Gong Nian’an let out a heavy breath, turned around gracefully, and walked back into the hall, where she saw Tan Yunfei walking back and forth.
Gong Nian’an asked, "What are you still doing here? Your sister and your future brother-in-law are fighting upstairs."
Tan Yunfei: "!"
She glanced behind her, gritted her teeth, and said, "Nian’an jiejie, what do you mean? I only have one brother."
"You'd deny your own sister for money?"
"I told you, I don’t have a sister!"
"Uncle and Aunt, show her the DNA results. Otherwise, she won't give up."
Gong Nian’an had been completely played by Peng Chengze. The Shen family were all businesspeople—how could they not have done a paternity test?
The most ridiculous part was those two sisters, trying to pull the emotional strings through her to become Shen Bingyan.
Now, their little scheme probably failed?
After the banquet, Gong Nian’an apologized to Shen Donghua, Mo Yue, and Shen Bingyan.
"It's fine," Mo Yue comforted her. "You were just trying to protect us from being deceived."
"Yeah," Shen Bingyan, who had been leaning against the wall, walked over and poked Gong Nian’an’s head. "Cutting that parasite loose should clear your head a bit."
Gong Nian’an batted Shen Bingyan’s hand away. "Hands off. I’ve grown up already."
"Now that you know you've grown up, focus on your studies and don't let yourself be fooled again."
Gong Nianan looped her arm through Shen Bingyan's. "Aren't you back now? Can you watch my back for me from now on?"
Shen Bingyan snorted. "You couldn't even recognize me properly, and you still have the nerve to ask me to watch over you?"
"Come on."
The moment Gong Nianan started whining, Shen Bingyan couldn't resist.
"Alright, alright," Shen Bingyan relented helplessly. "I'll cover half, you handle the other half."
"You got it!"
Mo Yue and Shen Donghua watched the two bickering, and it felt like time had stood still since a decade ago—yet in a blink, more than ten years had passed.
At least their beloved Bingyan was back.
...
Lin Tingyue was surprised to see Gong Nianan and Shen Bingyan in the villa area where her family lived.
Curious, Lin Tingyue asked, "What are you two doing here?"
Both liked Lin Tingyue, especially Gong Nianan. If not for her, she would still be clueless.
"I'm here to reclaim my house," Gong Nianan replied.
"So this is the place you let your boyfriend stay in?"
"Yep. If I remember correctly, his whole family lives here, right?"
"I've seen moochers before, but never ones so shameless about it."
Only after fully waking up did Gong Nianan realize what shameless leeches Peng Chengze's whole family were. Since he had betrayed her, the Peng family could forget about taking advantage of her anymore.
"Uncle Hua, please press the doorbell three times."
"Right away, Miss."
Miss should've done this ages ago—that Peng Chengze wasn't fit to lick her boots.
Uncle Hua stepped forward and pressed the doorbell three times before the door finally opened.
It was Peng Chengze's mother, Qiao Liwen, who answered. Upon seeing Gong Nianan, she beamed. "To what do we owe this visit?"
"What, didn’t Peng Chengze tell you?"
"He did, but lovers' quarrels never last, right? I know you were just teasing him."
Gong Nianan rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. "Who’s teasing him? I’m here today to take back the house. All of you, get out."
Gong Nianan’s harsh tone made Qiao Liwen drop her act, showing her true face. "I was trying to be civil with you, and this is how you respond? What a spoiled little princess with a terrible temper. But really, are rich girls these days so petty? Taking back gifts you’ve already given?"
Gong Nianan’s expression darkened. She had met Qiao Liwen twice before and remembered her as gentle and reasonable—turns out the whole family had been deceiving her.
Shen Bingyan shot back, "Yes, we’re petty. Not only are we taking back this house, but every last crumb in it too. What are you gonna do about it? After all, it’s our house, in Gong Nianan's name."
Lin Tingyue added, "Damn right!"
"You..."
The sound of a cup shattering suddenly came from inside the house, followed by a furious shout—"Why should I get nothing in the divorce?"
Huh.
Sounds like things are heating up in there.
"So Peng Chengyang—Peng Chengze’s big brother—is in the middle of a messy divorce with his wife today."
Well, this’ll be entertaining.
Brushing past Qiao Liwen’s protests, the group barged right in.
Qiao Liwen stomped her foot in frustration. "What karma did I earn for this mess?"
Once inside, Shen Bingyan glanced at the shattered glass on the floor and turned to Uncle Hua. "Uncle Hua, mark it down—one broken cup."
Uncle Hua immediately responded, "Got it."
Yang Yun barely spared a glance at the newcomers. She pointed at a man who bore a striking resemblance to Peng Chengze and yelled, "Peng Chengyang, you’re the cheater—you knocked up another woman! Why should I get nothing in the divorce?"
Qiao Liwen planted her hands on her hips and shielded her son. "Damn right you should! You’ve been married into our family for three years and still haven’t given us a child! Qingqing got pregnant right away!"
Yang Yun nearly laughed in disbelief. She’d never seen cheating defended so brazenly.
"Sorry, sis, but that’s just how it is," Yan Qingqing said, rubbing her stomach smugly. "Your womb just didn’t deliver."
"So he just brought his mistress straight home?"
"Trash attracts trash."
Tell me about it.
The younger son is tangled up with other women, and the older son outright cheated and got his mistress pregnant.
What a circus. Gong Nian’an almost felt like applauding the whole family.
"Fine, Peng Chengyang. Don’t cry when I drag your name through the mud at your job—I’ll ruin you!"
Gong Nian’an suddenly remembered—Peng Chengyang was on her family’s payroll.
Her eyes lit up as she decided to stir the pot.
"Brother, you can’t let her go and cause a scene! My dad mentioned he was planning to promote you soon—with a seven-figure salary. But if she really stirs up trouble… well, forget the promotion, you might even lose your job..."
Millions!
Peng Chengyang clenched his jaw. "Fine, it’s yours!"
They had that mansion anyway—what’s one old apartment?
Once Peng Chengyang and Yang Yun finalized their divorce, it would be Gong Nian’an’s turn to square things with the Pengs!
A whole crew stood lined up, waiting for her orders.
"Start counting," she commanded.
Qiao Liwen and Peng Chengyang stared dumbfounded at those people. Peng Chengyang said, "What are you doing, sis?"
"I dumped your brother, didn't you know? Since we've already broken up, we should go our own ways. My villa, including the jobs I arranged for you—I'm taking everything back."
"But you just said—"
Gong Nianan curled her lips. "I lied. Got a problem with that? You can deceive people, but I can't?"
Even Shen Bingyan couldn't help but laugh.
While Gong Nianan wasn't the sharpest, she sure knew how to piss people off.
"No, you can't do this."
"Why can't I?"
Soon, those who were counting everything up returned, waking Peng Chengze in the process.
Peng Chengze had been drinking all night and now had a killer headache from the hangover. When he saw Gong Nianan, his face lit up. He rushed over excitedly and said, "Nianan, you've forgiven me? I knew it—you couldn't throw away all these years of feelings between us."
"Oh," Gong Nianan suddenly remembered, "all the gifts I've given Peng Chengze over the years might need to be counted up too."
"What did you say?"
"Breaking up. Taking back my gifts. That's just how petty and cheap I am."
"Nianan, you—"
Gong Nianan couldn't care less about listening to Peng Chengze. Hua Shu pushed him aside and waved the head guy over.
The leader said, "Miss, the damage comes to 3.5 mil. I'll check the gifts later. Also, we've already packed their stuff."
"Tell them about the damages so they can't blame us later."
"Understood."
Yan Qing was completely shocked.
She had chosen to be with Peng Chengyang because she knew he had a bright future ahead and his brother was connected to the well-connected Gong family.
But now...
The villa was gone, the jobs were gone, and they were even on the hook for millions.
Yan Qing stood up. "I'm out of here."
Sharp-eyed Peng Chengze noticed and grabbed her hand. "Qingqing, where are you taking my baby?"
Yan Qing said impatiently, "I'm out of here."
"Didn't you want to marry me?"
"Seriously, who'd want to live this kind of miserable life with you?"
Peng Chengyang was shocked. "You're really like this, Yan Qing?"
Yan Qing was about to roll her eyes. "What kind of person? What's wrong with wanting something better for myself?"
Peng Chengyang clamped down on her hand. "No way. You're not going anywhere. You're having my baby."
"Actually, this child isn't Peng Chengyang's at all."
Whoa, now that's juicy.
