    Chapter 29: Ultraman Balloon

Wen Yuchen took Zheng Zheng around the entire fair. It was the little one's first time at such an event, and everything felt new and exciting to him.

Wearing the newly bought squeaker shoes, he absolutely refused to be carried by his dad and insisted on walking by himself—even when he was tired, he still wanted to walk on his own.

The most amusing part was that with every step he took, his shoes squeaked.

What’s more, he was tiny and toddled unsteadily as he walked, all while holding a large stick of cotton candy, which made other fairgoers frequently turn to look.

Whenever Zheng Zheng noticed people’s eyes on him, he was thrilled, as if his little tail were practically wagging up to the sky.

The market was simply too big, and eventually, he was too tired to walk anymore.

Zheng Zheng held his arms out toward Wen Yuchen and ultimately chose to let his dad carry him.

By then, it was almost noon, and Zheng Zheng looked listless, probably worn out.

Wen Yuchen decided to carry him and head back.

Before they reached Aunt Liu’s tricycle, Zheng Zheng’s attention was captured by an elderly man selling helium balloons.

The man held a bunch of balloons in various shapes—Peppa Pig, Black Cat Sheriff, Ultraman, little dinosaurs—he had them all.

Zheng Zheng’s sleepy eyes immediately widened, and he kept patting his dad’s back with his little hand, asking in a soft, babyish voice, “Daddy, what’s that?”

Wen Yuchen followed the little one’s gaze and immediately understood what he was thinking.

Pretending not to know, Wen Yuchen continued walking while carrying Zheng Zheng and teased, “Hmm, Daddy doesn’t know what that is.”

Zheng Zheng looked at Wen Yuchen with eyes welling up, as if saying, Daddy, how come you don’t know either?

As he watched his dad carry him, getting closer to the balloons and then moving farther away, Zheng Zheng’s big eyes couldn’t help but fill with tears.

He really, really wanted one—why was Daddy pretending not to know? (。•́︿•̀。)

Slowly, he brought his little mouth close to his dad’s ear and asked again, softly, “What is that?”

Seeing his pitiful expression, Wen Yuchen decided to stop teasing him. He bounced him playfully in his arms and asked directly, “Those are balloons. Do you want one, Zheng Zheng? Hmm, tell Daddy?”

Hearing his dad’s tone, Zheng Zheng sensed there might be a chance.

The little one, still well-behaved, leaned close to his dad’s ear and replied with a hint of shyness, “Zheng Zheng wants it.”

Wen Yuchen carried him over to the elderly man. Standing in front of him, Wen Yuchen asked, “Zheng Zheng, which one do you want? Pick it yourself.”

Wow, the man had so many balloons—a whole bunch of them floating in the air—which made little Zheng Zheng’s eyes widened in excitement.

He wanted this one, and that one, and that one too!

Finally, sucking on his little finger, Zheng Zheng chose an Ultraman balloon.

After the man tied the balloon to Zheng Zheng’s chubby wrist, the little one grinned widely.

The balloon floated up in the air, and the little guy waved his little arm around, watching the balloon bob with his movements.

Then he raised his little wrist up to Wen Yuchen’s face, beaming, and said, “Daddy, Ultraman fly!”

    "Do you like them?"

Wen Yuchen asked him again, "Zheng Zheng, do you want to pick one for Big Sister Xiaodoudou?"

Big Sister Xiaodoudou is Aunt Liu's little granddaughter, a round-faced and adorable little girl two years older than Zheng Zheng, with a lively spirit and a sweet way of speaking.

Aunt Liu brought her along for this market trip.

Zheng Zheng tried hard to recall Big Sister Xiaodoudou—during the tricycle ride, she had even put an apple in his mouth.

The apple was sweet and delicious.

Zheng Zheng nodded, "Okay, I'll pick for Big Sister Xiaodoudou."

So, little Zheng Zheng once again picked a blue Ultraman from the big bunch of balloons the vendor had.

Wen Yuchen was surprised and asked Zheng Zheng, "Are you picking Ultraman for Big Sister Xiaodoudou too?"

Zheng Zheng nodded seriously, "Yes, Big Sister and Zheng Zheng both like Ultraman."

Actually, Wen Yuchen had been leaning toward buying the little princess balloon for Xiaodoudou.

But since he had promised to let Zheng Zheng choose, he had to trust Zheng Zheng’s judgment.

Wen Yuchen happily paid for both balloons and carried Zheng Zheng to Aunt Liu’s tricycle.

Aunt Liu was already waiting there, and Xiaodoudou was standing on the seat waving at them.

Zheng Zheng happily waved his little hand when he saw Big Sister Xiaodoudou.

He handed her the blue Ultraman and said happily, "Big Sister, it's an Ultraman!"

To Wen Yuchen’s surprise, Xiaodoudou was delighted to receive the Ultraman.

She tugged on the balloon string and shouted excitedly, "It’s Tiga! Thank you, little brother!"

    Her voice was so loud.

It made Zheng Zheng a little shy, and he buried his face in his dad’s chest, smiling bashfully, "You’re welcome. Zheng Zheng likes Ultraman too."

Xiaodoudou nodded seriously and said, "I like it too! I like Tiga the very most!"

The two little ones were excitedly discussing their Ultraman.

Aunt Liu said warmly to Wen Yuchen, "You didn’t have to buy anything for Xiaodoudou!"

Wen Yuchen carried Zheng Zheng onto the tricycle and said, "Oh, it’s nothing. Zheng Zheng couldn’t walk away when he saw them. They’re not expensive anyway—just for the kids to have fun."

Aunt Liu laughed heartily, "That’s true! Don’t stand on ceremony with me, dear. If you need anything, just come find me."

Wen Yuchen smiled and nodded, "Got it, Auntie."

"Did you get everything the kids needed? Let’s head back now."

Wen Yuchen nodded, "Auntie, I’ve got everything. Let’s go back—the kids are probably hungry."

They drove back quickly to Yuanhe Village on her little tricycle.

By the time they arrived, the other guests had almost finished their tasks and were gathering at the village committee.

Aunt Liu's house was farther than the small farmyard where Wen Yuchen was staying, so he just had her drop him off at the village committee office.

Zheng Zheng's little balloon was really eye-catching; the other children could see it from far away.

Xiao Shiliu shouted excitedly, "Wow, it's Ultraman! The balloon little brother's holding is an Ultraman one!"

Hearing this, Zheng Zheng proudly raised his chubby little arm and said to Xiao Shiliu, "Sister, balloon can fly!"

Xiao Shiliu was really cheering him on, "Wow, little brother’s balloon is amazing!"

    "Hehe," Zheng Zheng beamed.

Then he showed his flying Ultraman balloon to sister Xiao Moli, brother Xingxing, and brother Jinjin, each in turn.

Xiao Zhengzheng got the praise he wanted from his older siblings and smiled so hard his eyes nearly disappeared.

Finally, Zheng Zheng turned around and raised his chubby little arm toward Xi Xi, who was watching him, and said, "Brother, look!"

Xi Xi was upset. Even though he had shared seafood fried rice with him just yesterday, Zheng Zheng had shown the balloon to Xiao Shiliu first, and he was the last one to see it.

Xi Xi let out a big huff, turned his head away, and said, "I'm a big kid now; I don’t play with this stuff anymore. Besides, I answered tons of questions correctly today and got a bunch of small fish babies."

Clearly, Xiao Zhengzheng didn’t notice his brother was upset. Hearing that Xi Xi had gotten a bunch of small fish babies, he clapped his hands happily, "Yay, brother! (❁´ω`❁)!"

Xi Xi finally understood what it meant to punch a pillow: this little dummy didn’t even realize he was upset. So frustrating, (`‐ω‐´) angry~

    Zheng Zheng: ( ゚∀ ゚) grinning cluelessly
