Chapter 80 A Meal Before the Storm
byChapter 80: Eat Before the Storm
Wen Yuchen had few scenes, and the role of Qing He wasn't very demanding.
Soon, Wen Yuchen’s final scene officially wrapped.
After Zhang Chunhui called “Cut!” with satisfaction, Wen Yuchen was lowered from the wire.
“Congratulations on wrapping up!”
“Congrats! Congrats!”
“Happy wrap, Wen Yuchen!”
......
Wen Yuchen accepted the wrap bouquet, responding to everyone’s congratulations one after another.
Yang Mobai and Luo Hezhi, both equally cheerful and bright, were the most eager.
Yang Mobai said with a grin, “Congratulations.”
Luo Hezhi also beamed: “Hope we get to work together again, Wen Yuchen! You’ve got to keep it up!”
Then Tang Yuexi stepped forward.
With a faint smile and a calm tone, he said, “Wen Yuchen, thank you for your guidance these past few days. I look forward to working with you again.”
Wen Yuchen’s smile faded and he nodded expressionlessly.
During filming, Tang Yuexi’s attitude toward him wasn't friendly; at times, he even stared at Wen Yuchen with a strange look.
It gave Wen Yuchen a bad feeling.
Remembering Yang Mobai’s earlier comments about Tang Yuexi, Wen Yuchen avoided contact with him as much as possible these past few days to steer clear of trouble.
The crew still had other scenes to shoot.
Wen Yuchen was also eager to leave; he needed to pick up Zheng Zheng from Lu Chenghe.
These days, at dawn, Zheng Zheng would go to the company with Lu Chenghe.
For the first couple of days, Zheng Zheng was still fresh and curious, but now he had grown tired of it.
When in a good mood, he would play happily by himself.
When in a bad mood, even the smallest thing would set him off into loud, tearful wails, demanding to see his dad.
These crying fits often lasted half an hour, each time leaving his face and eyes red.
It was heartbreaking.
Lu Chenghe couldn’t calm Zheng Zheng down.
Every day, he’d barely get any work done before Zheng Zheng started crying.
To soothe him, Lu Chenghe would call Wen Yuchen. If he was lucky, Wen Yuchen would answer; if not, the call would go unanswered.
When he wasn't lucky, Lu Chenghe would take Zheng Zheng out to play instead of going to the office.
This left a pile of work that had to be handled late into the night.
Wen Yuchen had already left.
Tang Yuexi took the water handed to him by his assistant and waved Su Nai over.
Su Nai scurried over, glanced around to make sure no one was paying attention, and followed Tang Yuexi.
Tang Yuexi set the water down, carefully checked his makeup in the mirror, and said casually, “How are the preparations going?”
Su Nai pursed his lips and replied, “Don’t worry, everything’s ready. I’ve contacted them; they’ll start tonight.”
Tang Yuexi chuckled softly, “This time, I’ll make sure he never bounces back!”
Su Nai smiled along, “Of course.”
“Consider this his wrap gift,” Tang Yuexi said leisurely as he stood up. Before leaving, he glanced sideways at Su Nai and added, “And remember to keep your mouth shut!”
“Understood,” Su Nai replied, thinking to himself: A vile snake from the gutter, a child of a mistress—utterly disgraceful.
Su Nai adjusted his clothes and was about to stride out when his assistant found him.
The assistant frowned, looking worried. “You’re doing pretty well now; there’s no need to do something like this that harms others without benefiting yourself.”
Su Nai crossed his arms and laughed lightly, “Hah, what do you know? How do you think I landed this supporting role? What’s wrong with doing things for that vile snake? There’s money and resources involved—who the hell would turn down more money?”
Then Su Nai reached out and gently patted his assistant’s cheek. “Would you say no to more money? Hmm?”
The assistant fell silent, then after a long pause said, “What if something goes wrong?”
Su Nai clicked his tongue impatiently and scolded, “Can’t you hope for the best! Besides, even if something happens, what does it have to do with me? If it does, it’ll be those brain-dead fans causing trouble.”
“They’re your fans; some have been following you since your debut.”
“So what!” Su Nai said indifferently. “If they like me, they should contribute. Otherwise, what’s the point of being my fan?”
With that, Su Nai lifted the curtain and left.
The assistant stood there silently for a long time before following.
After returning home, Wen Yuchen filled a vase with water and arranged the bouquet in it.
He took a refreshing hot shower, changed into clean, comfortable clothes, and headed out.
Earlier, while in the car, Lu Chenghe had called to ask if he was done.
Last night, when Wen Yuchen was holding Zheng Zheng, he had mentioned to Lu Chenghe that he was wrapping up today.
This morning, Zheng Zheng had cried and fussed, demanding to see Wen Yuchen.
No matter how Lu Chenghe tried to soothe him—with treats or toys—nothing worked.
In desperation, Lu Chenghe decided to take him out to prepare a surprise for Dad.
Zheng Zheng stopped crying and fussing and went along with Lu Chenghe to get ready for the surprise.
Lu Chenghe took Zheng Zheng to a flower shop and put together a large bouquet, with every flower chosen by Zheng Zheng himself.
Even though the color combination was a bit... vibrant.
After buying the flowers, Lu Chenghe also reserved a restaurant to celebrate the wrap of Wen Yuchen's filming.
At this moment, Lu Chenghe was waiting in the private room with Zheng Zheng for Wen Yuchen.
Zheng Zheng was scooping at the small dessert Lu Chenghe had ordered for him, with a milk mustache framing his little mouth.
Zheng Zheng pouted, asking, "Where's Daddy?"
Lu Chenghe wiped away the milk stain with a tissue and said, "Daddy will be here any minute now."
"You're not lying, right?"
"I promise."
Wen Yuchen followed the navigation using the address Lu Chenghe had given him, making a big loop before finally finding the restaurant.
Looking at the road that could have been a straight shot, Wen Yuchen parked his car and cursed, "This map is so damn useless."
After locating Lu Chenghe's private room, Wen Yuchen pushed the door open and saw a large bouquet barreling toward him.
The bouquet was a gaudy mix of colors, like a child’s crayon scribbles on paper.
The "bouquet" then spoke: "Daddy, catch, catch."
Wen Yuchen smiled and took the flowers: "Wow, such beautiful flowers! Who picked these?"
The little figure behind the flowers puffed out his chest: "Baby did."
Wen Yuchen picked up Zheng Zheng and kissed his soft little cheek: "You picked such pretty ones."
Lu Chenghe smiled and gestured: "Come sit, Chenchen. The food will be served soon."
Wen Yuchen sat down holding Zheng Zheng and asked, "What made you pick this place?"
Lu Chenghe quietly moved closer: "You wrapped up filming, so we’re celebrating and welcoming you back."
Wen Yuchen nodded and took a sip of the juice Lu Chenghe had poured for him.
After a while, the servers began serving the dishes.
Once you're famous, everyone watches.
They cycled through three different servers just for the dishes.
At first, it was a man, then it was replaced by a girl.
While the girl was serving, her gaze kept sneaking odd glances toward Wen Yuchen.
Annoyed, Lu Chenghe asked the manager to change the server.
Finally, the server was replaced by a middle-aged woman.
The dishes ordered were all Wen Yuchen’s favorites, and they were delicious.
With a satisfied smile, Lu Chenghe busied himself dishing out and serving food for the father and son.
