Chapter 76: The Agent's Sleepless Night

By the time Wen Yuchen drove back, the sky had grown dim.

Little Zhengzheng was anxiously waiting and had called seven or eight times along the way.

Every time Wen Yuchen answered, Zhengzheng’s sweet, childish voice came through the receiver: “Daddy, when are you coming home?”

Hearing Zhengzheng’s tender voice made Wen Yuchen anxious too.

Twenty minutes later, Wen Yuchen parked the car and arrived downstairs.

Before even entering the building, he could hear Zhengzheng calling out: “Daddy! Daddy!”

Wen Yuchen looked up and saw Zhengzheng leaning out the window, waving his little hand, with Lu Chenghe holding him from behind.

The little one, thrilled to see his daddy after a day apart, wriggled excitedly in Lu Chenghe’s arms.

Wen Yuchen took the stairs two at a time, rushing up.

Zhengzheng was already waiting at the door and hugged his daddy tightly as soon as he saw him.

Lu Chenghe invited Wen Yuchen in: “Dinner’s ready, come on in. Zhengzheng’s little tummy has been rumbling—he refused to eat until you got back.”

    Wen Yuchen didn’t hesitate.

Little Zhengzheng affectionately wrapped his arms around Wen Yuchen’s neck, pouted his little mouth, and planted a kiss on Wen Yuchen’s cheek, saying in a pitiful voice: “Daddy, baby missed you today.”

Wen Yuchen pressed his cheek against Zhengzheng’s and fed him a small piece of beef brisket: “Daddy missed you too today, my sweet little treasure.”

The father and son fed each other bite by bite, their intimacy palpable, making Lu Chenghe beside them envious.

He leaned in shamelessly and asked, “Well, Chen Zi, did you miss me today?”

At this, Wen Yuchen paused with his chopsticks and gave him a complicated look.

Zhengzheng, mid-chew, reached out and pushed the big face away, mumbling: “Daddy is mine, mine!”

Lu Chenghe grew increasingly disheartened by Wen Yuchen’s reaction and began to regret asking, wishing he could slap his past self.

    “I…”

“Can’t you really change how you address me?” Wen Yuchen interrupted Lu Chenghe and asked.

Lu Chenghe, caught off guard by the interruption, was stunned at first. After processing Wen Yuchen’s words, he relaxed abruptly and smiled lightly: “No, I’ll keep calling you that. So, did you miss me?”

Wen Yuchen gently bit his chopstick, hesitated, then nodded and said: “I did miss you…”

Lu Chenghe was thrilled, and his eyes instantly brightened, only to deflate again at Wen Yuchen’s next words.

“I was wondering if you could take good care of Zhengzheng—I was a bit worried.”

“Oh, I see.” Lu Chenghe withdrew his smile, pouted slightly, and looked unhappy.

Wen Yuchen found it amusing. Looking closely at Lu Chenghe’s sulky expression, he thought more and more that his pout resembled Zhengzheng’s.

Even the curve of their pouts was the same.

    Lu Chenghe was still sulking.

The little one was still pushing his face away: “Daddy is mine, don’t you take him.”

“I won’t take your daddy.” Lu Chenghe moved the little one’s hand aside and rubbed his tummy.

Wen Yuchen picked up a shrimp for him and comforted him: “Eat up. I do trust you with Zhengzheng. I’ll probably need you to look after him these next few days.”

Hearing this, Lu Chenghe’s mood shifted from cloudy to clear. He smiled again and nodded: “Don’t worry.”

After dinner, Wen Yuchen prepared to take Zhengzheng back to his own home across the hall.

But before they could leave, Lu Chenghe walked over with a tie-dyed top, looking somewhat awkward: “Zhengzheng’s clothes haven’t been washed yet.”

In the photo Lu Chenghe had sent earlier, Zhengzheng was shown making a mess while eating dragon fruit.

Wen Yuchen knew exactly what state the clothes were in and took the shirt without concern: “It’s fine, it can still be worn. I’ll take Zhengzheng now. You should get some rest early.”

After Zhengzheng fell asleep, Wen Yuchen logged into Weibo.

The promotional photos for *Ode to Gallantry* were scheduled to be released today.

Also, the big draw by the top fan “One Snake” was happening tonight, and Wen Yuchen was very invested.

He wanted to see who would win that watch worth over 800,000 yuan.

The draw was set to take place between 8:00 and 9:30 PM.

By now, the results were out—the most expensive watch had been won by another major fan of Wen Yuchen.

The comments section was filled with joy and excitement, everyone boasting about their luck.

It even made it to the trending topics, with comments either wishing for good luck or sharing images of koi fish for luck.

After checking the draw results, Wen Yuchen opened the Weibo page for *Ode to Gallantry*.

    The comments there were polarized.

Those satisfied with Wen Yuchen’s styling were very pleased, while the dissatisfied ones found every possible angle to criticize.

“Wow, Da Chen Zi’s outfit looks really good—it suits the role of Qinghe quite well.”

    “Holy crap, he’s seriously handsome.”

“As a fan of the original novel, I think he’s quite faithful to the character. I hope his acting doesn’t let us down.”

    “Yeah, totally.”

“I’m also an original novel fan. Honestly, I didn’t want this book adapted, but the author needs to make a living. That said, Director Zhang’s casting choices are pretty spot-on—Chen Jia and Mobei both look very much like the characters.”

“Agreed. Qinghe is my favorite character, and honestly, Wen Yuchen seems much more suitable than that scandal-ridden actor.”

“Yeah, ever since he got popular last year, he’s become more and more arrogant, and his face has grown uglier too.”

“Hey, don’t call yourself Qinghe’s mom! I’ll just say it straight: no one can play our Qinghe!”

“Exactly, wyc has neither the acting skills nor the looks, and he’s an old beta who’s had a kid—he shouldn’t even try to compare himself to Qinghe.”

“Hah. You’re just a loser yourself, projecting your own flaws onto others. Your stench is leaking through the screen.”

"Not entirely wrong, Wen Yuchen isn't good-looking to begin with. It's just that in your eyes, he's a perfect ten!"

"Su Nai fans, come at me with your main account!"

"Hahaha, our big Chen Zi is the real deal, much better than your milk-sop idol!"

"My baby is an Omega, so what if he's a bit cute and delicate!"

"Screw you! Among all the Omega actors and celebrities in the industry, your fans are the most obnoxious!"

"Enough said, only Wen Yuchen can portray Qinghe well and satisfy me, a Qinghe mom. I'll be his fan for life."

Wen Yuchen read through the comments like it was all a joke, as if the person being criticized wasn't him.

He was indeed somewhat easygoing and had a relatively good mindset, as long as it didn't involve his family. Everything else he could laugh off.

He saw things clearly—since he had entered this industry, it was impossible for everyone to like him. He wasn't cash, after all.

He would be grateful for and remember the supportive voices, striving to do his best.

As for those who would drag him no matter what, Wen Yuchen couldn't possibly clap back at every single one of them.

For those with excessively harsh words, Wen Yuchen took screenshots of all of them.

    Because he suddenly remembered someone.

Why should he be the one getting cussed out while that person could just ignore everything and still make money?

He took at least seventy or eighty screenshots and zipped them all off to Li Xiao.

    Wen Yuchen: "Pics."

Li Xiao was annoyed by the constant pinging notifications, ripped off the facial mask on his face, and impatiently opened his phone.

What greeted him was a pile of pictures.

Li Xiao: "What do you want in the middle of the night!"

Wen Yuchen: "(^_^) Getting roasted, and suddenly remembered I have a slacker agent like you."

"Who's the slacker?" Li Xiao grumbled.

Li Xiao: "So what do you want?"

Wen Yuchen: "I can't curse them directly, so I'm telling you to deal with it. You're the agent, so you must know what to do."

    Li Xiao: "Got it!!"

Wen Yuchen closed his phone, satisfied, closed his eyes, and prepared to sleep.

On the other side of the city, Li Xiao had completely lost his sleepiness. He got up with a look of annoyance and started going after each account in the screenshots.

If it were before, Li Xiao would've brushed it off, but times had changed. The company was putting more stock in Wen Yuchen.

That day, they wanted to assign an assistant to Wen Yuchen, but Wen Yuchen shot it down outright!

Looking at those usernames, Li Xiao felt more and more cross-eyed, as if the gravy train was ending.
