Chapter 92: Zheng Zheng Turns Two

Around three in the afternoon, Meng Feihang arrived with Xiao Shiliu.

Xiao Shiliu skipped over to Wen Yuchen, giggling as she tugged at his clothes. "Uncle Wen, where's the little brother?"

Wen Yuchen gently tweaked Xiao Shiliu's braid. "The little brother is sleeping upstairs. Xi Xi is here too. I'll take you to find them."

With that, Wen Yuchen led Xiao Shiliu upstairs.

Meng Feihang settled onto the sofa and turned to Tang Zhixiao beside him. "Hey, how's that music project coming along?"

Tang Zhixiao replied, "Almost done. I'm just responsible for composing for you guys. Whether it sounds good or not isn't my concern."

Meng Feihang then asked, "Are we the only ones who showed up?"

Tang Zhixiao shot back, "Is there a problem?"

    Meng Feihang: "..."

    "No problem."

Upstairs, both children had already woken up and were running barefoot to the playroom.

Wen Yuchen didn't find the two little ones in Zheng Zheng's room, so he took Xiao Shiliu to the playroom.

Inside, Lu Chenghe was building Legos with the children.

Xiao Shiliu's eyes lit up at the sight of the dazzling array of toys.

Zheng Zheng dropped the Lego in his hand, toddled over, hugged Xiao Shiliu, and said softly, "Boss, come here."

Xiao Shiliu let go of Wen Yuchen's hand and pulled Zheng Zheng along.

Wen Yuchen leaned against the doorframe, watching Lu Chenghe wrestling with Xi Xi over a Lego piece. "Why are you fighting with him? Aren't you coming downstairs?"

Lu Chenghe held the Lego with one hand while Xi Xi pulled back with both, his face red and strained.

Lu Chenghe glanced at him with amusement and said to Wen Yuchen, "I'll just... stay up here. I don't really know them."

Wen Yuchen chuckled. "What? Too shy to meet people?"

Lu Chenghe propped his chin up. "How could that be? I'll go down when our parents arrive. This place is big, so I'll keep an eye on the kids to make sure they don't get hurt."

After saying that, he released his grip. Xi Xi, still pulling, suddenly lost his balance and fell backward.

Seeing that Xi Xi was about to hit his head, Wen Yuchen immediately straightened up and lunged to catch him.

Lu Chenghe stuck out his leg, catching the falling Xi Xi.

Xi Xi, as if nothing had happened, happily took the Lego he had snatched and went to build with Zheng Zheng and Xiao Shiliu.

Wen Yuchen approached, his hands hovering awkwardly, then smacked Lu Chenghe on the back of the neck. "You almost let that child fall! Just show off, why don't you!"

Lu Chenghe winced with a hiss, grabbed Wen Yuchen's hand, and grinned cheekily. "Don't be angry, don't be angry. I had it under control."

Wen Yuchen huffed a couple of times, seemingly mollified, then tried to pull his hand away. He shook it a few times but couldn't free it.

He looked at Lu Chenghe, who pretended not to notice.

Wen Yuchen raised his other hand and patted Lu Chenghe's hand. "Let go."

Only then did Lu Chenghe reluctantly release his grip.

Before leaving, Wen Yuchen couldn't resist giving him another smack. "Don't do that again!"

    Lu Chenghe nodded.

Over with Zheng Zheng and Xi Xi, their enthusiasm for Legos had waned, and they were now playing house with Xiao Shiliu.

Xi Xi whined, "Why do I have to be the son? He's so tiny, he's the perfect age to be the son!"

Xiao Shiliu retorted, "Why are you yelling? You're scaring your sister."

Zheng Zheng, holding a cloth doll, quickly rocked it. "Don't cry, don't cry."

    Xi Xi was fuming!

Lu Chenghe found it amusing. He picked up a Lego from the floor and tossed one at each of the three little ones.

Zheng Zheng, hit by the Lego, looked around confusedly, then hugged his cloth doll tighter.

Xi Xi, already in a bad mood, couldn't care less who threw it.

Xiao Shiliu rubbed the back of her head where she'd been hit, then turned and saw Lu Chenghe sitting cross-legged with his chin propped.

She scampered over to him and said, "Uncle Lu, you be the grandpa."

Lu Chenghe laughed at the little girl's words. "Your Uncle Lu isn't that old yet. That's quite the promotion."

    "Pretty please? Pretty please?"

    "Alright, alright, grandpa it is."

Zheng Zheng heard this and handed his cloth doll to Lu Chenghe. "Grandpa, hold her."

Lu Chenghe pinched the cloth doll, poked Zheng Zheng's chubby little cheek, and asked, "You're giving me your daughter to hold? What are you going to do?"

Zheng Zheng pointed at Xi Xi lying on the floor. "Son's hungry. I'm cooking."

Lu Chenghe pulled him onto his lap. "You're quite the homemaker. If your daughter calls me grandpa, what do you call me?"

Zheng Zheng tried to get up, exclaiming, "I'm cooking!"

Lu Chenghe held him in place and pinched his cheek. "What do you call me?"

Zheng Zheng pouted and glared. "Dad."

Lu Chenghe kissed his cheek. "That's my clever boy."

Zheng Zheng wiped the spot where he'd been kissed with his little hand and stood up. "Not listening! I'm cooking."

He then took the vegetables Xiao Shiliu had just "bought."

Xiao Shiliu pushed Xi Xi, who was still lying on the floor. "Go, help Dad wash the vegetables!"

Xi Xi complained, "He's the dad, why does the son have to wash the vegetables?"

Xiao Shiliu explained, "Because Daddy is short and can't reach the faucet."

Zheng Zheng heard this and loudly retorted, "I'm tall!"

After exchanging a few words with Xiao Shiliu, Xi Xi scrambled to his feet to help "Daddy" wash the vegetables.

Zheng Zheng fiddled with the plastic vegetables and said to Xi Xi, who had come over, "Me, tall."

"Yeah, yeah, yeah," Xi Xi playfully ruffled his hair. "Talk about being tall when you're taller than me."

    Zheng Zheng: So annoyed.

Wen Yuchen had only invited Zheng Zheng's two favorite little friends.

As for Lu Chenghe, worried that Wen Yuchen might feel uncomfortable, he hadn't invited any of his old friends. Instead, he called a few of his secretaries and some key members from the legal department who had made significant contributions.

They were all young people, so there was plenty to talk about.

Especially those secretaries and legal staff—when they caught sight of Wen Yuchen, a few curious ones exchanged glances and smiled knowingly.

Meng Feihang had a warm and outgoing personality, which was clearly reflected in Xiao Shiliu’s lively demeanor—she took after him completely.

Before long, Meng Feihang had struck up conversations with the people from Lu Chenghe's company.

Particularly Mu Gaoyu, who was chattering away about his recent heroic exploits, his voice echoing throughout the room.

Meng Feihang listened with great enthusiasm, snacking continuously, his eyes following Mu Gaoyu and the others.

Mu Gaoyu rambled on, with Huo Xun and Yang Xishi chiming in, while Li Wuming munched away like a hamster.

Just then, Auntie Chen brought over some freshly baked snacks—the rich aroma of milk and the bitter-sweet chocolate scent filled the living room.

"It smells delicious," Lei Mengxue said, taking the plate from Auntie Chen.

Auntie Chen smiled. "Enjoy, take your time. I’ll go get more for you."

"Hey, hey, Xue, give me a couple," Mu Gaoyu said, reaching out.

Xiao Guangpei handed him two pieces. "Keep talking, why are you so greedy?"

Mu Gaoyu popped them into his mouth, chewed, swallowed, and said, "What do you mean? Let me continue."

At 7:30 p.m., Zheng Zheng’s birthday officially began.

The room was dimly lit, and a beautiful multi-tiered cake was brought to the table by Lu Chenghe and Wen Yuchen, with two candles placed on top.

Wen Yuchen put the birthday hat on Zheng Zheng, and Lu Chenghe lit the candles.

The other two little ones excitedly urged Zheng Zheng to blow out the candles, belting out "Happy Birthday" at the top of their lungs.

Huo Xun, who loved teasing children, exchanged a glance with Lei Mengxue, and the two of them sang louder and louder, competing to outdo each other.

Xi Xi and Xiao Shiliu grew so anxious they started shouting loudly, making everyone laugh.

Finally, Zhou Wenqing, who was doubled over with laughter, stopped them, reminding everyone that the children’s vocal cords were still developing and that wasn't good for them.

The bright candlelight made Zheng Zheng’s eyes sparkle.

A little shy, Zheng Zheng buried his face in Wen Yuchen’s chest and rubbed his face, then looked up, puckered his lips, and blew out the candles.

After blowing out the candles, it was time to cut the cake. Zheng Zheng’s little hands weren’t dexterous enough, so Lu Chenghe did the honors.

They didn’t eat much cake, as there was still a full table of dishes to enjoy.

The spread was a feast for the senses—colorful, fragrant, and delicious. Zheng Zheng’s cheeks puffed out as he ate, and with the first bite, he knew it was the taste of his grandparents’ cooking.

Wen Guosheng and Jiang Yun smiled and said he was just like his father.
