Chapter 5: Don’t Worry, President Fu, I’m a Super Fast Runner
byChapter 5: Boss Fu, Rest Assured, I'm Really Fast at Running
Song Jiang relayed what the driver had texted to the boss.
Sure enough, no surprise there.
He'd have to wait half an hour for the boss, then drive forty minutes to take him home.
The nearest subway station to the boss's home was a twenty-minute bike ride on a rental bike.
He remembered the subway shut down at 11 p.m. If he left as soon as the boss got home, he could still make it.
If he missed the last train, he would have to take a taxi home.
Could he get a taxi in the villa district?
He didn't know. All he knew was that this whole hassle annoyed him, and he couldn't help but mess up his hair a few times.
Although he was standing in the office now, he was already dead inside.
Fu Zhichen was completely focused while working.
Hearing a rustling sound in the office, he impatiently looked up at the source of the noise.
He remembered there was still someone standing in his office.
Its owner had mussed up his fluffy, fuzzy hair, and his slender fingers were still doing some math.
He had ruffled his hair so hard that a few stubborn tufts stuck up at the back of his head.
He looked a bit down.
He looked even more like the little dog he kept.
How had he never noticed that before?
"What're you up to?"
"Huh?" Song Jiang, immersed in the sadness of having to spend money again, was slow to catch on.
"You look like you really don't want to be here."
No kidding!
"Boss Fu, I don't."
Fu Zhichen pressed, "No?"
"Steward Song, don't you realize it's written all over your face?"
"I was going to say, since you're staying late with me, I'd pay you overtime."
"Since you said that, it seems you don't need the overtime pay."
"No, no!"
When the boss brought up overtime pay out of nowhere, Song Jiang's eyes instantly lit up, his face lit up like a switch flipped.
Was this the same boss he knew?
Had the boss finally grown a conscience and stopped exploiting employees?
"Boss Fu, I was just wondering if it's safe for you to go home so late."
Fu Zhichen clearly had no idea why Song Jiang was saying this, raised his chin to motion him to go on.
"Look, with your leg issue, if you encounter a robber on the way, you can't even run away."
"That's when you need someone who runs fast to push you from behind!"
Fu Zhichen snorted, "Steward Song, I thought you were going to say that if we met a bad guy, you'd help me fight them off."
Fu Zhichen drummed his fingers on the desk, paused for a few seconds, then said, "True."
Fu Zhichen noticed Song Jiang looking him up and down.
Damn, he felt like the boss was mocking his build.
So what if he had no abs or muscles!
He had other good points, didn't he!
"Boss Fu, don't worry, I'm really fast at running. I even won first place in long-distance running in elementary school!"
Hear how smoothly he spouted that bullshit.
He was a genius.
"And about that overtime pay..." Song Jiang hesitated, then gave a silly laugh.
If Song Jiang had a tail behind him, Fu Zhichen had no doubt that it would be sticking straight up right now.
The corners of Fu Zhichen's mouth curled imperceptibly, "On the condition that you get me home safely."
"You bet!"
Fu Zhichen had just finished his work, so Song Jiang grabbed the keys and pushed Fu Zhichen to the underground parking lot.
Forgive Song Jiang for being so excited because he had never seen the world before.
Oh wow, oh wow—was this the legendary luxury car of the boss!
This multi-million-dollar luxury car that only existed in legends was now sitting right in front of him, so real!
Just the thought of sitting in it and driving made his little heart thump non-stop!
Mom, he'd finally hit the big time!
Song Jiang looked left and right, up and down, almost pressing himself against the car.
"Steward Song, how much longer do you plan to look? The overtime pay won't increase just because you dawdle here."
"..."
Damn capitalism.
He hadn't even thought about that yet, and the idea was already shot down.
Song Jiang cast a resentful glance at Fu Zhichen.
Before Fu Zhichen noticed, he switched back to his fake smile reserved for his coworkers.
"Mr. Fu, I just think your car is too fancy. I'm a bit afraid to drive it."
"Steward Song, are you implying I can't afford insurance?"
...
Song Jiang felt that if he said another word, the CEO would choke him to death.
He quickly moved the CEO, wheelchair and all, into the car.
Sitting in the driver's seat, Song Jiang looked at all the various buttons and the car's luxurious interior.
He didn't quite know where to put his hands or feet.
To be honest, he hadn't driven much since getting his license the summer after the college entrance exam.
What if later—he meant what if—
if by any chance he got into an accident or crashed?
The car would be damaged, and insurance would cover it.
What about him?
Would the CEO reimburse his medical bills?
Fu Zhichen stared at the back of Song Jiang's head and said darkly, "Steward Song, if you don't start driving soon, it'll be daylight."
What is the CEO even talking about? It's not that late. How could it be daylight soon?
Song Jiang rolled up his sleeve to check the watch he bought on Pinduoduo for 9.9 yuan with free shipping.
It was only nine o'clock. Still a long way from dawn...
Song Jiang slapped his forehead.
Ah! What the hell was he doing?!
Why was he worrying about something that hadn't even happened!
If the CEO didn't pay him back later, he'd just lie on the ground and not budge!
After reassuring himself, Song Jiang fastened his seatbelt, stepped on the gas, and without another word, went for it.
Home, home—I want to go home!
But just after driving a little way...
Wait—he suddenly remembered something really important.
He hadn't turned on the navigation.
Usually, he took the subway and a bike-share to work, so he never had to remember routes. He was driving the CEO home for the first time.
In this big city, unlike a small town, if you take a wrong turn, you could end up way off course or take a huge detour.
Song Jiang felt helpless. He secretly glanced in the rearview mirror at the only one who could help him now.
He wondered if the CEO could help him set the navigation.
Finally, after Song Jiang's one hundred and eighth glance at Fu Zhichen,
Fu Zhichen finally spoke.
"Steward Song, is the route written on my face?"
"No..." Song Jiang's voice was weak and faltering. "No..."
The CEO had been sitting in the car with a poker face, tapping on his phone. After Song Jiang snuck so many glances at him, his scowl deepened.
Song Jiang took two deep breaths, gathered his courage, and said, "Mr. Fu, could you set the navigation for me? I don't know how to get to your place."
Fu Zhichen replied coldly, "So you've just been driving around aimlessly?"
"Why didn't you say earlier that you didn't know the way?"
"Steward Song, is your mouth just for decoration?"
Song Jiang: "..."
Honestly, the CEO's mouth was like a machine gun.
It's not just for show.
His mouth could also eat.
(Thanks for unlocking another chapter! Big hug! You're the best!)
