Chapter 50: I Need to Go to the Bathroom
by 溪河江海Chapter 50: I Need to Go to the Bathroom
Song Jiang paused mid-motion as he was prying open Chu Yan's mouth.
Flirting?
Flirting?
Flirting?
Had the CEO not seen the painful expression on his face?
Fine, fine, fine. Let the CEO taste how sour it really is.
Song Jiang picked the other half of the orange that hadn't been ruined yet, smiled warmly, and said in the gentlest tone.
"CEO Fu, try it and you'll know."
Fu Zhichen frowned, casting a suspicious glance at Song Jiang, then at the orange in his hand.
The young butler looked sincere, holding the orange up to his mouth as if eager for him to take a bite.
Fu Zhichen took a bite from Song Jiang's hand.
Just as Song Jiang expected the CEO to grimace in agony, Fu Zhichen remained expressionless, not even a twitch of his brow.
Wait, does the CEO have a different sense of taste than normal people? Or had he lost his taste today?
"CEO Fu, is it good?" Song Jiang asked curiously.
As Fu Zhichen chewed, his jawline moved, and Song Jiang saw his Adam's apple bob.
Well, well, he just swallowed it without a second thought.
Fu Zhichen remained completely unmoved, while Chu Yan burst out laughing beside him.
"Bro, your tolerance is impressive. I told you it was sweet."
Fan Jian, ignored by everyone, muttered to himself as he listened to their cryptic conversation, "What's the mystery with eating an orange?"
Twenty seconds later, the living room erupted in a string of curses.
"Son of a bitch!"
"..."
"What crappy... orange!"
"..."
Being polite, Song Jiang ignored the crude words from that ill-mannered man Fan Jian.
Grandma Fu leaned out of the kitchen, her tone laced with irritation.
"Fan, you little rascal, what are you yelling about? I could hear your noise from the kitchen. How many times have I told you? No acting crazy in front of me!"
Facing Grandma Fu's scolding, Fan Jian didn't dare to argue back, slumping onto the sofa in a sulk.
Just then, another female voice came from the kitchen.
"Grandma Fu, is Brother Zhichen here?"
Song Jiang looked toward the source of the voice. Why did it sound so familiar?
Chu Yan seemed to read Song Jiang's mind and explained.
"You're right. Tian Tian is here too."
Fu Zhichen recalled Tian Tian's previous behavior around him, and his face, which hadn't even flinched at the sour orange, immediately darkened.
"Who let her come?"
"Of course, I brought her," Chu Yan said matter-of-factly. "Tian Tian is so devoted to you. She overheard Grandma Fu tell me to come for dinner, and she begged me for a long time to bring her along."
"She said that since Ye Qingqing already knew Grandma Fu while she didn't, as a qualified suitor, she had to one-up her."
Tian Tian was really ambitious, Song Jiang thought. Should he tell her that the CEO would never like her?
Would Tian Tian, in the flower of her youth, be crushed? Could she accept this cruel truth?
"You know I hate being bothered the most. After her persistent pestering, I finally gave in."
Chu Yan shrugged and continued.
"When Tian Tian arrived and saw Grandma Fu cooking, she was eager to show off." Chu Yan imitated her in a falsetto voice, quite convincingly. "I want to cook for my Brother Zhichen!"
"Let my Brother Zhichen know that I'm a virtuous and good woman!"
"..."
Fu Zhichen and Song Jiang were both silent for once.
Ugh.
A grown man like Chu Yan imitating a woman's voice was pretty disgusting.
The food was soon brought to the table.
Tian Tian deliberately placed the dishes she had made in front of Fu Zhichen. Standing beside him, she introduced them with a shy smile, "Brother Zhichen, this one."
"This... and that one."
"I made them all."
Tian Tian practically had "Praise me" written all over her face.
Yet Fu Zhichen didn't even spare her a glance, perfectly epitomizing cold-heartedness.
Grandma Fu sat at the head of the table, with Fan Jian and Fu Zhichen on either side of her.
Fan Jian sat alone on one side, while on Fu Zhichen's side were Chu Yan and Song Jiang.
Chu Yan's personality couldn't stand an awkward silence, so he simply clapped.
"Tian Tian, you're amazing! Look at these colors, this presentation—truly the best little sister since childhood!"
The moment he finished, Tian Tian clenched her fist and thumped him in the back.
Lowering her voice, she hissed, "Who asked you to talk? Shut up!"
After meeting Tian Tian today, Old Madam Fu was pretty satisfied with the young girl.
Since it was no longer possible for Ye Qingqing and Fu Zhichen to be together, Tian Tian would make a fine granddaughter-in-law as well.
Seeing Fu Zhichen treat Tian Tian like this, she thought it was out of line.
"Zhichen, Tian Tian is talking to you. She just really helped me a lot with cooking. Don't you ignore her, got it?"
"..."
Song Jiang didn't bother with what they were saying; his stomach was already growling with hunger.
All he could think was: why hasn't dinner started yet?!!!
If you're not hyped for food, something's wrong with your head!
Song Jiang stared at Fu Zhichen with narrowed almond eyes. The gap at the dining table was large, so he couldn't hear what the CEO was saying to Tian Tian.
He just wanted to know—did they have that much to say?
Even if they did, couldn't they talk after the meal?
Just as Fu Zhichen was about to shoo Tian Tian off, he noticed the young steward gently biting his lower lip, slumped on the table, looking at him with pitiful eyes.
Exactly how his old puppy looked when it was hungry.
Fu Zhichen brushed off Old Madam Fu with a few perfunctory words, reached out and took a bite of Tian Tian's cooking, and grudgingly said "Mm" after eating.
Only then did Tian Tian bounce back to her spot.
Old Madam Fu nodded approvingly. Only after she picked up her chopsticks did the dinner finally begin.
Song Jiang eagerly grabbed a plate of meat closest to him.
He chewed quickly, but soon burst into a fit of coughing.
Song Jiang wanted to ask—was this really the taste of meat?
Could Fu Zhichen's inexplicable remark at the gate, "Let him eat more," have meant this?
Old Madam Fu's cooking was... a total disaster.
Song Jiang's coughing quickly caught the attention of the others.
Chu Yan, who was sitting closest to him, immediately handed him a glass of water and said with a smile, "Look how hungry the little steward is—he wolfed it all down and choked."
Involuntary tears welled up in Song Jiang's eyes. He covered his mouth and spit out the contents wrapped in a tissue.
He felt like Chu Yan knew this was a disaster and was just standing there to enjoy the show, and now he's gloating.
Fu Zhichen's gaze landed on Chu Yan's hand patting Song Jiang's back.
"Steward Song, if you can't take the meat, have more veggies."
Vegetables? If the meat is that bad, the veggies can't be any better.
Upon hearing the CEO's words, Tian Tian confidently picked up a portion of her own cooking and placed it into Song Jiang's bowl.
"Steward Song, try some of mine."
Just as Song Jiang hesitated, wondering if he should eat it, Old Madam Fu spoke.
"Xiao Song, slow down."
Song Jiang wanted to ask—if he ate more, would he get poisoned?
"Come over here; I want to talk to you."
Song Jiang didn't dare to disobey Old Madam Fu—he was still counting on that six million.
He gulped down a few more mouthfuls of water, finally getting his cough under control.
As soon as he got to Old Madam Fu, she took his hand, smiled warmly, and patted it.
"Xiao Song, thank you so much for telling me about Ye Qingqing. I never thought she'd be that kind of woman."
"Good thing she didn't end up with Zhichen."
Looks like Fu Zhichen didn't tell her about Ye Qingqing and Fan Jian.
Meanwhile, for some unknown reason, Fan Jian suddenly flew off the handle and slammed his chopsticks on the table.
"Grandma Fu, I'm full. I'll be leaving now."
That was out of nowhere.
"What's gotten into this kid today..."
Old Madam Fu muttered something, then turned to Song Jiang with a smile.
"This is your first time here, and you haven't tried my cooking yet, have you? You've got to eat more."
"Especially that braised pork—I stewed it for hours; the meat is guaranteed to be tender and perfect."
Good...?
Where on earth did Old Madam Fu learn to cook? He'd suggest she sign up for New Oriental Cooking School.
Song Jiang's lips parted a little as he tried to come up with an excuse to refuse.
Then Fu Zhichen suddenly spoke.
"Steward Song, I have to use the bathroom."
