Chapter 109: Be My Wife or Call Me Husband

Just a tiny bit of joy.

Song Jiang's lips curled up like crazy under the covers. Since Fu Zhichen couldn't see him anyway, what was wrong with him laughing smugly?

Even the big-shot CEO has his day.

Song Jiang's almond eyes squinted into slits as he tilted his head and asked, "Are you busy?"

    "What do you think?"

    "..."

Great, that just killed the conversation.

    "Have you eaten?"

He'd noticed earlier through the window that the sun was setting on the horizon. It should be evening now—dinnertime.

"I've already ordered food. It'll be delivered soon."

Fu Zhichen didn't even spare him a glance while answering. Juggling work while looking after him—what a busy guy.

But thinking about it from another angle, Fu Zhichen was being so cold toward him. If Fu Zhichen hadn't forcibly kissed him, who could possibly tell Fu Zhichen liked him?

Song Jiang's gaze drifted back to the ceiling as he replied, listless, "Oh."

He'd wanted to chat with Fu Zhichen to kill time, but it looked like he'd have to drop that idea.

Why the hell was the hospital ceiling so white? Who designed this? Didn't they know it'd make people feel like they'd died and gone to heaven?

Why was this fancy private ward so huge with all these amenities?

The bathroom door wasn't fully closed. From Song Jiang's angle, he could see there was actually a bathtub inside. Seriously, how was a patient with a busted leg supposed to soak in a bathtub? That was just ridiculous.

After trash-talking the room, Song Jiang had absolutely nothing to do. He begged the man sitting on the sofa, "Can you hand me my phone?"

Fu Zhichen said coldly, "As far as I know, you don't have work right now. Sick people shouldn't be on their phones too much."

    "..."

Ugh, somebody—he wanted to stab Fu Zhichen! The guy had zero awareness. Couldn't he tell Song Jiang was bored out of his skull?!

Was this how the so-called caretaker was supposed to look after him?! Didn't he know he was supposed to help kill the boredom and bring some fun?!

Bad review! He was totally giving Fu Zhichen a bad review!

    Fu Zhichen gets zero points!

Song Jiang glared at Fu Zhichen, cheeks puffed up, the only thing missing was steam rising from his head in anger.

As if sensing something, Fu Zhichen looked up and happened to catch Song Jiang like that.

He paused what he was doing and raised an eyebrow, confused. "Something else you want to say?"

Song Jiang muttered to himself—might as well not say anything since it'd be like talking to a wall. The guy just brushed him off anyway.

"Nothing." Song Jiang straightened up and stopped looking at Fu Zhichen. Lame. What a boring CEO.

Fu Zhichen stared at Song Jiang for a beat, then suddenly said, "Song Jiang, you're cursing me out in your head—and pretty dirty too."

Yeah, good to know you're aware.

Song Jiang rolled over, pulling the blanket over his head, his back to Fu Zhichen.

His message was clear: he was pissed, and the consequences would be severe—the guy better start playing along.

A few strands of fluffy black hair peeked out from the back of the little butler's head, poking out from under the blanket. How were they just as mischievous as their owner?

Fu Zhichen could tell Song Jiang was throwing a little tantrum, so he said, "I'll give you five questions."

"Really?" The second Fu Zhichen's words landed, the person under the blanket stirred. Song Jiang quickly responded, "Will you answer everything honestly?"

So the little butler had questions he wanted to ask—no wonder he'd started with a few pointless ones.

Fu Zhichen hummed in agreement, granting Song Jiang his wish.

Hearing that, Song Jiang immediately turned back around, eyes shining as he looked at Fu Zhichen. His expression practically screamed "this was my plan all along."

Fu Zhichen closed his laptop, folded his hands, and crossed one leg over the other. Combined with his suit, it was the classic power pose of a successful man.

It was... actually pretty easy on the eyes.

The little butler was like a puppy—pissed one second, but after being fed a piece of meat, he immediately came running back wagging his tail.

    Tsk, that was... kinda adorable.

After getting Fu Zhichen's nod of approval, Song Jiang fired off four questions in a row.

    "Who hit us?"

"Was it an accident or intentional?"

"Where is the driver who hit us now?"

"When did your leg get better?"

Fu Zhichen stayed perfectly composed, answering each one in a totally flat tone.

"A bad guy. On purpose. In jail."

When it came to the fourth question, Fu Zhichen paused for a second before saying mysteriously, "Kids shouldn't ask so many questions."

Seriously? What the hell was that supposed to mean?

His answers were so short—saying them was the same as not saying anything at all.

And what was this "kid" business? He was twenty-four—twenty-five by traditional count—and rounding up, that was basically thirty!

    He was not a kid!

    Fu Zhichen was nuts!

Seeing Song Jiang's dissatisfaction with his answers, his fierce and clawing demeanor, Fu Zhichen's lips curved almost imperceptibly. "One question left."

The last one was the key—one could say his previous four questions were all just setting the stage for this one.

Song Jiang peeled back the corner of the blanket, revealing her entire small face, her dark, glistening almond-shaped eyes looking at him full of anticipation.

    "What's your bank card password?"

Fu Zhichen's lips curved slightly. He had thought his little manager wanted to ask some secret, but it turned out she was interested in something so material. After figuring out Song Jiang's intention, he studied her quietly for a moment, then said with amusement.

    "Song Jiang."

While Fu Zhichen studied her, Song Jiang stared back without blinking, little did she know her almond eyes had already given her away.

"Huh?" Why did he suddenly call her name? Come on, just tell her the password already!

She wanted to transfer a cool hundred million to herself!

"A question that private—do you really think I'd tell you?" It was the kind of question you already knew the answer to, yet you asked anyway.

Song Jiang was stunned for a moment, then let out a sigh. She knew Fu Zhichen wasn't that easy to fool. The smile on her little face instantly vanished.

She buried herself under the blanket, done with everyone.

If she couldn't squeeze money out of Fu Zhichen, then this was just how life was.

Just as Song Jiang was feeling disheartened and sighing, Fu Zhichen suddenly said, "If you want to know my bank card password, there's one most effective shortcut."

Would he really be that generous?

She didn't believe it, but after mulling it over, Song Jiang still asked, "What?"

    "Be my wife."

    ...

    ...

Song Jiang was completely speechless. She buried her face in her hands under the blanket. She didn't know why she was blushing, even though Fu Zhichen couldn't see her expression.

Did Fu Zhichen just say "wife" so casually? Since when did he get to call her that? The two of them weren't even a couple yet, and he was already jumping ahead to calling her his wife?

Was he that confident he'd win her over? What if she said no?

Remembering how Chu Yan had teased her at Tian Tian's birthday party a few days ago, Song Jiang grew seriously suspicious of Fu Zhichen.

"Did you hear what was said that day?"

When she threw off the blanket, she found Fu Zhichen peeling a bright orange tangerine.

His slender fingers didn't pause at her question, his whole demeanor radiating casual indifference.

To Song Jiang, Fu Zhichen's attitude screamed, "So what if I heard? What are you gonna do about it?"

Fu Zhichen didn't reply. He slowly raised half of the peeled tangerine and asked her, "Want some?"

This jerk was still playing dumb!

    Fat chance!

A moment later, Fu Zhichen swallowed the tangerine segment, his throat bobbing.

"Or you could call me 'husband,' and I might think about it."
