Chapter 102: I Don’t Know What I Saw in You Back Then
by 溪河江海Chapter 102: I Don’t Know What I Ever Saw in You
The bedroom lights went out shortly after the two of them lay down together.
With sight gone, his other senses sharpened.
Fu Zhichen quickly picked up on Song Jiang’s unease. He tightened his grip on Song Jiang’s hand, his tone brooking no argument.
“Steward Song, what are you avoiding? Turn your head toward me.”
Song Jiang shifted a little, his face rubbing against the pillow with a soft rustling sound, as a way of saying no.
Fu Zhichen rested his chin on the back of Song Jiang’s head. “You’re not listening again.”
Since when was that disobedience? He couldn’t even avoid a scent he didn’t like?
Song Jiang didn’t know what he was saying either, with a hint of complaint in his voice. “You smell like something else. It stinks.”
Fu Zhichen slid his large hand around Song Jiang’s neck from behind, pulling him into an embrace, then reached around and pinched his chin. “Steward Song, I showered.”
Song Jiang knew what Fu Zhichen meant, but he hadn’t washed it off properly—the smell was still there.
He didn’t feel like talking anymore.
Fu Zhichen tried to turn him around, but this time, he didn’t succeed.
After a beat, Fu Zhichen seemed to understand something. He gently squeezed the soft spot at the back of Song Jiang’s neck and asked in a low voice.
“You don’t like it?”
Song Jiang stayed completely still.
“Steward Song, you’re awfully picky.”
“How dare you be grossed out by me.”
If it was about disliking the cool sandalwood scent... that wasn’t it either. He was used to smelling it every day; the cool sandalwood fragrance only made him feel at ease.
He admitted he liked the cool sandalwood scent, but he didn’t like it when it was mixed with other smells.
Song Jiang stayed quiet for a long moment before deciding to speak up.
“President Fu, can I ask you a question?”
Fu Zhichen nuzzled the top of Song Jiang’s head and countered, “If I said no, would you actually stop asking?”
“Mmm...” Song Jiang drew out the sound, hesitating for a moment before deciding to satisfy his curiosity.
“I still want to ask.”
“President Fu, was what you said at the birthday party today for real?”
Fu Zhichen was puzzled. “Which part do you mean?”
Song Jiang blurted out, “The part where you said you liked someone.”
“Why would I lie?”
He didn’t know if he did, but he wanted to know the truth, so he pressed on.
“Then who do you like?”
Is it that polite, refined person you were getting along with so well today?
Song Jiang didn’t say that last part. He only heard Fu Zhichen tsk.
“Steward Song, you’re really dense.”
Why did he keep saying that to him?
He had at least a bachelor’s degree; he couldn’t be that hopelessly stupid.
Song Jiang turned over, wanting to see Fu Zhichen’s face, hoping to find some clue in his expression.
But he forgot the room’s lights were already off, and in the end, he could only see Fu Zhichen’s dark, unfathomable eyes.
He looked up, and Fu Zhichen looked down.
In the darkness, all they could see was each other. They stared at each other in silence for a while.
Song Jiang couldn’t tell anything and pouted slightly, displeased.
“I’m not dumb.”
Seeing Song Jiang facing him, Fu Zhichen automatically placed his hand on the back of his head and pulled him into his arms.
“Steward Song, time to sleep. Didn’t you say you wanted to get up early with me tomorrow to head back to the office?”
He did want to go back to work, but he also really wanted to know who Fu Zhichen liked.
First, because he’d get six million.
Second, because if Fu Zhichen had a partner, he would need to explain the contract they’d signed—the one about sleeping together.
Would the person Fu Zhichen liked be able to help him sleep?
If so, would he lose his job...
Fu Zhichen was obviously trying to change the subject.
Why wouldn’t he tell him?
Could it be that the CEO hadn’t won that person over yet?
Did he need Song Jiang’s help?
How was he supposed to help?
Set up more chances for them to meet?
...
All sorts of random questions bubbled up, and by the end, Song Jiang’s thoughts were all jumbled, finally concluding six words: Fu Zhichen was way too much.
Strangely, in Fu Zhichen’s arms, Song Jiang always fell asleep fast, even though his doubts lingered.
One leg draped over Fu Zhichen’s waist, he murmured almost unconsciously in his sleep.
"Who the hell is it..."
"Six million..."
"Go... home..."
The person in his arms was muttering incoherently, tossing and turning restlessly, and her breathing made him itch to do something, but then he remembered how the little steward had trembled last time.
Fu Zhichen let out a helpless sigh, pinched the steward's chubby cheeks, and finally brushed his lips softly against his forehead.
"You're so dumb. I don't know what I ever saw in you."
But the one drifting in and out of consciousness didn't catch a single word.
