Chapter Ten: Expecting?
byChapter 10: Pregnant?
"Luo Le, please wait a moment. I'll fetch your clothes and then guide you there."
Luo Le nodded, rubbing her aching waist as she watched him leave.
After he returned with the outfit, Luo Le followed him into the fitting room.
Just as she finished putting on the pants, she heard voices outside the changing room door, speaking at a fairly loud volume.
"Today, with Chen Fu's return, it seems like the Captain's mood has improved. During training earlier, I made a mistake, but he didn't scold me."
"Yeah, finally he's back. The Captain's been in a particularly bad mood these past couple of days. He trained us so hard that I almost considered quitting."
"In my opinion, the Captain was just bored, so he kept a close eye on our training. Hopefully, that won't happen again. Thank heavens. With that dominant pheromone of his, I felt suffocated every day."
"Yeah, speaking of which, have any of you heard? The Captain's omega partner is here, and they're staying with him right now."
As Luo Le listened on, the more he felt that something was amiss. They couldn't possibly be talking about Huo Lanjing, could they...?
He shook his head; it couldn't be that coincidental. They must have been talking about someone else.
"I've heard, I've heard. It's the one the boss detests, isn't it? Heaven, no wonder the boss has been in a foul mood lately. Who knows how long he'll be staying."
The more she spoke, the more despairing her life seemed.
"Oh, have you forgotten? Deputy Chen is back."
"Indeed, thank you, Deputy Chen. I'm truly grateful."
"Enough chit-chat. Quickly try on the clothes and let's head back. Our break is almost over. If we don't return soon, our Boss Huo will 'cherish' us properly."
The boss they mentioned was named Huo. Luo Le couldn't help but smirk; it seemed that the disliked matriarch they spoke of was him.
"I swear, don't put it that way, it's disgusting."
"Oh dear, I've made a mistake. This is the omega fitting room. Damn, I almost went in."
The sound outside the door gradually faded away.
Luo Le unconsciously clenched the shirt in his hand.
Did Huo Lanjing really despise him that much? After just a few days, he had already provoked such a strong reaction from him.
Luo Le remained still, lost in thought.
After a while, a knocking sound came from the door.
"Sir, are you alright? Sir?"
D looked nervously at the door. The guest had been inside for so long; he hoped nothing untoward had happened.
"Sir, if you're okay, please give us a response."
Just as they were about to kick the door down, it opened from the inside.
Luo Le had changed back into his previous clothes. He pointed at the clothing inside and the one he was holding.
"Package these items and send them to this address, please."
When Luo Le exited, he noticed that the group was still chatting, each of them holding a few garments in their hands.
"Follow me, please."
As he approached the cashier, the group fell in behind him, continuing their conversation about other topics.
D gestured, "May I have your Brain ID or Star Need Card, please?"
Hearing the voices of the people behind him, Luo Le slammed his Star Need Card onto the counter.
"Swipe it."
Everyone present, upon seeing the Star Need Card, were momentarily taken aback.
In the First Legion, only one person possessed such a card.
They instantly deduced Luo Le's identity.
The gaze of the crowd toward Xing Xueka became rather nuanced.
Especially those few people behind her.
They had just been speaking ill of Admiral's wife. If she overheard them, they'd be in deep trouble.
In their hearts, they fervently prayed, hoping she hadn't heard a thing.
Admiral Huo's wife was notoriously capricious.
One would suffer greatly for crossing her path.
"Luo Le, acknowledged. Please wait a moment... Okay."
Luo Le responded and, holding the Xing Xueka card, turned to look at the slightly stiff figures behind her.
She waved it before them.
"Are you all soldiers under my husband?"
What they witnessed was an elegant young man, proudly displaying his Star Need Card with a delicate air of arrogance.
After a brief pause, one of them replied, "Madam, yes, that's correct."
Luo Le gave them a casual glance. "I assume you're all aware of my reputation outside. If I catch any of you gossiping behind my back again..."
"Madam, we were wrong, we won't dare do it again. Please don't tell the Admiral, okay? We promise to keep our mouths shut from now on."
Knowing he couldn't control what others said, Luo Le still felt annoyed by their behavior.
Initially, he felt a bit hurt, but then he realized he wasn't the type to bear grudges silently.
If he was unhappy, neither would they be, especially since he wasn't in the wrong here.
"I'll consider it, depending on my mood. See you around."
"Take care, Madam."
The group watched Luo Le depart with a charming grace.
Upon seeing that Luo Le's figure had disappeared, they all heaved a sigh of relief. The tallest one on the left grumbled, "Thankfully, he didn't hold it against us. We should really avoid talking behind people's backs."
The man in the middle, with a somewhat delicate appearance, disagreed, "Who does he think he is? Everyone in the empire knows that the marriage between the Admiral and him is just for show. What's with the attitude?"
"Shut up. It's our fault to begin with."
"Damn, we're running out of time. Hurry, let's settle the bill."
After paying, they rushed to the training grounds in a frenzy.
On his way back home, Luo Le was still in a terrible mood.
The thought of Huo Lanjing having someone else outside their relationship pricked his heart like tiny needles. It was an excruciating feeling despite his initial satisfaction at getting back at him.
So, did Chen Fu give him that pendant?
No wonder Huo Lanjing cherished it so much.
But if that was the case, why did Huo Lanjing still engage in that act with him yesterday?
Luo Le found the more he thought, the more vexed he became, so he decided to put his thoughts aside.
After freshening up, he nestled himself under the covers and took a deep breath. The scent of cold pine, uniquely belonging to Huo Lanjing, filled his nostrils.
But this time, a sense of security was absent.
He tossed and turned for a long while.
In the end, he couldn't resist sleep's embrace and drifted into a deep slumber.
He slept straight through until nightfall.
Luo Le stirred awake, gazing at the pitch-black surroundings, feeling somewhat disoriented.
A burning sensation filled his stomach, causing discomfort.
He wanted to find something to alleviate his hunger, but as soon as he stood up, everything went black before his eyes.
He quickly sat back down, his limbs trembling uncontrollably as his heart raced and cold sweat trickled down.
Luo Le leaned on his thighs, his mind preoccupied with the doctor's words.
Indeed, traversing the stars had imposed a strain on his body.
This was an unprecedented situation; it seemed he needed to find time for a checkup.
After a moment of respite, Luo Le felt somewhat better.
He descended the stairs and made a beeline for the kitchen.
Spotting the milk on the table, he grabbed it and greedily downed a large glass.
The burning sensation in his stomach began to subside.
Just as he wiped the moisture from the corners of his mouth, a wave of nausea rose from his gut.
Luo Le clutched the trash can, vomiting not only the milk but also the nuts he had consumed at noon.
His grip on the trash can turned slightly pale, his fingers, like young garlic shoots, revealing prominent knuckles.
Nauseated to the point of dry heaving, Luo Le couldn't vomit any further.
Unbeknownst to him, a large hand had appeared behind him, gently rubbing his back.
Once he regained some strength, a glass of water was offered to his lips.
Luo Le took a sip, only to promptly spit it out.
Just as he was about to take another drink, the owner of the glass suddenly asked nonchalantly, "Pregnant?"
Luo Le spat out the water, coughing violently, "Cough, cough, cough..."
Choked by the surprise, tears welled up in his eyes as he turned to look at the man with a slightly furrowed brow and a grim expression.
"Cough... did you just say something?"
"Go get a check-up. I'll accompany you tomorrow."
Fixing his gaze on the man, Luo Le gritted his teeth and asked, "Husband, you're joking, right? We haven't seen each other in a year and three days, and that was just yesterday. Besides, it didn't even go in. Even if we were incredibly careless and it did happen, it's only been one day. Where would I have gotten pregnant? Or do you think I'm keeping an A on the side?"
Huo Lanjing gazed at the carefree smile on Luo Le's face and spoke with a cold undertone, "Luo Le."
The tone carried a subtle warning.
