    Chapter 55 - Sign It.

Upon seeing the person in the treatment pod open their eyes, the doctor hurriedly approached and asked, "You're awake. Are you feeling any discomfort?"

The alarm of the treatment pod was still blaring, causing a headache for anyone nearby.

Luo Le frowned slightly and glanced sideways.

The doctor perceived his confusion and quickly stepped forward to explain, "This is the military region's latest treatment pod. Our hospital hasn't used it before, so there might be some software malfunction. I'll turn it off first."

As the doctor spoke, he switched off the power to the treatment pod.

Luo Le's consciousness returned, and he vaguely remembered being ambushed near his home.

    Wait, the children.

Luo Le hastily placed his hand on his stomach, suddenly remembering that they were with him. His hand then slowly dropped.

He couldn't let them know. If they found out, it would be equivalent to Huo Lanjing knowing.

But he needed to inspect it personally.

Luo Le suddenly lifted his gaze and looked at the doctor before him. "Leave."

The doctor hesitated for a moment before asking, "Should we prepare a new treatment pod?"

"No need. Just leave and make sure no one enters."

His tone left no room for argument.

Although puzzled, the doctor nodded and left.

Before the door closed, Luo Le heard Feng Cheng's voice asking if everything was alright.

He propped himself up, thanks to the treatment pod, the wound on his chest had already healed. However, his body still didn't quite obey his commands.

As he stood up, a layer of cold sweat broke out on his forehead.

He wiped it away casually, reached out to silence the treatment pod, then turned on the power.

The healing pod was still bathed in a crimson glow, unsettling Luo Le's heart. He searched frantically, but couldn't locate the button for an ultrasound scan.

This healing pod was entirely different from the ones he had used before. After much searching, he found only a button labeled 'Full Body Examination.'

    Could this be it?

With a tentative mindset, he pressed the button.

The pod closed once more, its surface now displaying various bodily indicators.

Luo Le watched as the words flickered above him. Suddenly, the pod flashed red again, issuing a warning.

    A line of text appeared.

Scan Results: Pregnant, O-Type host injured, fetal condition critical but currently stable, irregular fetal heartbeat. Do you consent to uploading data to the terminal?

Luo Le quickly glanced over the message and hastily clicked 'No.'

From the doctor's words, it seemed that this treatment pod belonged to the military district. If it were reported, Huo Lanjing would surely find out immediately.

As long as everything was all right, that was fine.

Luo Le reached out to browse through the treatment records related to himself in the pod. He found only one entry from yesterday, mentioning an undetected life form.

If it had simply been deleted, it could be restored.

Luo Le never left traces of his actions. This child was his own, and he wouldn't give Huo Lanjing any chance to suspect anything.

In a flash, a thread suddenly appeared in his hand. In the next moment, he inserted one end into the AI brain and the other into the treatment pod.

Luo Le's fingers swiftly typed a string of code on the light screen, and before long, the treatment record vanished.

Before leaving, he considered for a moment and added a record of a failed treatment.

After doing all this, Luo Le lay back down, gazing at the ceiling and sighing.

Just as he was about to call for Wind City to come in, a message entered his AI brain.

After clicking in and reading the message, Luo Le glanced at Wind City outside the door, a subtle curve forming on the corner of his lips.

At the same time, in the general's office of Military Region 01, the atmosphere was tense.

Huo Lanjing tapped his ring-adorned finger lightly on the dark wood desk, his sharp gaze fixed on the person before him.

    "Didn't catch him?"

Lieutenant Lin lowered his head. "Yes."

Ever since the general had instructed him to investigate after that day, he had immediately taken his team to follow the clues left at the scene, which ultimately led them to Du Wei.

But they were still one step too late.

After a moment of silence, Huo Lanjing rose from his seat, gave a brief order, and left.

Lieutenant Lin watched his retreating figure without comment.

In the past few days, their general had finished dealing with the last bit of paperwork; he was likely going to attend to his wife now.

Lieutenant Lin's assumption was spot on; Huo Lanjing did indeed have such thoughts.

It was a journey filled with positive emotions.

At three in the afternoon, Huo Lanjing arrived at the hospital and took the elevator upstairs.

As the doors slid open, he stepped out with a rigid posture.

Not far away, Feng Cheng and several doctors in white coats were pushing a gurney in their direction, its occupant's head concealed beneath a white sheet.

Huo Lanjing's heart jolted. This was a hospital invested by the Huo family, and this particular floor exclusively served the Huo family members.

And Luo Le had been brought here by him personally.

Huo Lanjing hesitated to approach, as if he dared not confirm his fear.

Feng Cheng lifted his gaze and spotted Huo Lanjing standing at the stairway entrance. Fueled by indignation, he swiftly rushed over, grabbed his collar, and pulled him back.

Huo Lanjing didn't resist forcefully and found himself standing by the gurney. He remained silent, fixating his gaze on the slight undulations beneath the sheet.

Pointing at the white cloth, Wind City raged, "After bringing Brother Le here, have you visited him? Didn't you say that the Empire is the safest place? You're a general, so how could he end up like this? And now..."

    Is it really Luo Le?

Huo Lanjing's hand trembled slightly as he reached out, but he hesitated to lift the cloth.

Wind City noticed his reaction and sneered, "What, are you afraid to look? I've heard about it before, but I never realized how much you neglected Brother Le until now."

With each word, Huo Lanjing's expression darkened.

Wind City initially intended to uncover the cloth for Huo Lanjing, but after seeing his reaction, he suddenly changed his mind.

He chuckled, "Forget it. Anyway, since Brother Le has passed away, it doesn't matter anymore. It's better if you don't see him. Brother Le definitely wouldn't want to see you. Move aside."

As he spoke, he raised his hand to push Huo Lanjing away.

Huo Lanjing stepped back, causing Wind City to stumble forward.

After evading, he walked over and firmly held onto both sides of the bed.

Huo Lanjing lifted his gaze slowly, his expression dark and somber. "My wife's affairs are none of outsiders' concern."

Wind City panicked upon hearing this. "Who's an outsider? I'm Brother Le's friend, his best friend."

Huo Lanjing ignored him, casting a casual glance at the four doctors standing by.

Understanding the cue, the doctors stepped forward to intercept Wind City.

Huo Lanjing then lowered his head, gently lifting the white cloth to reveal the face beneath.

Luo Le's face was devoid of any hint of color, his lips dry and flaky with dead skin.

He reached out and gently placed his hand over Luo Le's features.

His fingers traced from the brows to the tip of the nose, finally pausing on the lips.

These eyes would never open again, nor would those lips move anymore.

Realizing this, Huo Lanjing's body froze. It felt as if an invisible hand had clutched his heart, making each breath he took feel like a piercing needle.

Before lifting the sheet, he had wondered if Luo Le was just putting on an act to deceive him in a fit of anger.

But now, Luo Le lay there, breathless, pulseless, and heartbeatless.

Huo Lanjing could no longer deceive himself.

    Luo Le was truly gone.

Death meant that this person no longer existed in this world.

He would never hear his voice again, see his face, or feel his skin.

"Where are you taking him, Huo Lanjing? Stop."

Wind City was halted, helplessly watching as Huo Lanjing pushed Luo Le away. He hurriedly called out to him.

Huo Lanjing seemed not to hear, continuing on his way.

Seeing this, Wind City pondered for a moment and spoke up again, "Brother Le said he wanted to go home. Are you going against his wishes?"

As he finished speaking, Huo Lanjing paused.

Wind City attempted to step forward, but the doctors were still holding him back. He exclaimed angrily, "Get out of the way, I have something to show him."

After exchanging glances, the doctors reluctantly moved aside.

Huo Lanjing, having heard this, turned to look at Wind City as he approached slowly.

"He asked me to give you this before he left."

Reaching out, Huo Lanjing took what was in Wind City's hand – a piece of paper. Flipping it over, the four large characters "Divorce Agreement" pierced his eyes painfully.

Behind it was an envelope. He opened it and poured out... a ring, identical to the one on his finger.

"Sign it, Brother Le said. He came alone, and he wants to leave without being tied down to anyone."

Huo Lanjing's grip on the ring tightened. Turning around, he continued pushing the hospital bed towards the elevator while not looking back.

As he walked, he said, "I'll return him safely to the... Luo family. Don't follow us."

Four more doctors appeared before Wind City, yet he was unable to follow them. He could only watch helplessly as Huo Lanjing pushed Luo Le away.

Huo Lanjing first took Luo Le to the chief's office, requesting a wheelchair. Gently, he lifted Luo Le into it and tidied his clothes.

From Luo Le's ashen face, it was clear what had happened. The chief, witnessing this unusual scene, hesitated but ultimately didn't dare to intervene.

He simply watched as Huo Lanjing pushed Luo Le out of the room.

Huo Lanjing's mind was in chaos. For the first time, he began to ponder if he truly loved Luo Le.

Worried that Luo Le might be affected by the sun, Huo Lanjing opened an umbrella, put on a mask, and then placed one on Luo Le.

By the hospital's riverbank, a tall man held an umbrella while pushing a slender, closed-eyed man back and forth along the water's edge.

In the end, Luo Le was returned to the Luo family residence.

Upon his return, everyone in the Luo household was gathered in the living room, engrossed in a popular comedy, laughter echoing through the space.

The door suddenly creaked open. Seeing Huo Lanjing push Luo Le in with a grim expression, demanding a funeral for him, all were left stunned.

Receiving no response, Huo Lanjing's face darkened as he repeated his question.

Luo Lu immediately understood and instructed the servants to wheel Luo Le in.

The amusing scene on TV continued to play, echoing through the quietness of Luozhai.

Huo Lanjing's expression grew even more profound.

Luo Lu gave a subtle signal, and the servant promptly turned off the television.

"Would General like to come in for a seat?"

Huo Lanjing remained silent, his gaze fixed on the corner of Luo Lu's brow.

Aside from the initial shock, Luo Lu didn't seem to be grieving at all.

Despite his pensive expression, his subconscious reaction around his eyebrows couldn't conceal the truth.

Didn't Luo Lu dote on Luo Le a lot?

Huo Lanjing suddenly sensed something amiss. This father-son duo didn't seem to be as they appeared on the surface.

He glanced at the approaching servant but didn't let go, proceeding straight inside.

After placing Luo Le on the bed, he gazed at him for a while. His hand cupped Luo Le's face, and his thumb gently rubbed against the skin. He leaned down and pressed his lips to Luo Le's forehead.

    "Goodnight."

The Luo family stood guard at the door. As Huo Lanjing exited, he cast them a glance. "If there's anything you need, contact the Huo family."

Luo Lu nodded assuredly. "Understood, I'll take care of it. Admiral, please take your time leaving."

Huo Lanjing hurriedly departed, fearing that he might inadvertently defy Luo Le's wishes if he stayed any longer.
