Chapter 10: Chapter 10 Going to Visit the Set Without Your Tubby?
byChapter 10 Aren't you bringing your little 'tubby' along to visit the set?
Watching the little one joyfully dash toward him, Chi Yuehang was pleasantly surprised. He quickly set down what he was holding and opened his arms to catch him.
"Our little Zhishi likes Uncle Chi too, doesn't he? And Uncle Chi likes you very, very much."
Overjoyed, Chi Yuehang picked him up and gently nuzzled the top of his head with his chin.
"Ah!" Lu Zhishi’s eyes sparkled as he wrapped his small arms around Chi Yuehang’s neck and snuggled close.
"Guess what Uncle Chi brought back today?"
"Ah da…" The little one babbled a string of sounds, not a single word understandable.
"Mhm, that’s right, a very pretty shell wind chime and a dreamcatcher. They’re beautiful."
"Come inside to wash and sanitize your hands." Bai Yansheng came out to help carry some things. Chi Yuehang covered Lu Zhishi’s eyes and kissed his lover on the lips.
Bai Yansheng cupped his neck and pushed him back, wiping his mouth as he softly chided, "The kids are right here."
"They can’t see; I blocked their view."
"Go away, you clingy thing…"
Lu Zhishi was briefly stunned but soon grew accustomed to it, obediently remaining still with his eyes covered and nestled in Chi Yuehang’s arms.
"Perfect timing that you’re back. I have a few surgeries and have to leave soon. Remember to cook for the kids later."
"I’ll take you to the hospital…"
"No need, I’ll drive myself." Bai Yansheng set the things down and went upstairs to change, then left with his work bag. "Stay home and watch the kids."
Chi Yuehang stood at the door watching him leave, let out a long sigh, and led the three children inside.
"Go open the presents. I’ll make dinner." Chi Yuehang tied on an apron and stood at the kitchen doorway holding a spatula. "Any little ones want to order something?"
Lu Zhiyu immediately raised his hand. "Me! I want to place an order!"
"Alright, what would little Lu Zhiyu like to eat?"
Lu Zhiyu thought for a moment. "I want pineapple sweet and sour pork, and filet mignon with French vanilla sauce."
His father Ting'an liked French vanilla steak, especially filet mignon, and Lu Zhiyu shared some of his food preferences.
Chi Yuehang took out his phone to make a call. "No problem, I’ll have someone deliver the ingredients right away."
Chi Chen waited until Lu Zhiyu finished before unhurriedly saying, "Dad," and adding, "I’ll also have French vanilla steak, mushroom soup, and lobster baked with vanilla cheese."
"Alright, dear, how about adding some pasta too?"
Chi Chen nodded.
Chi Yuehang ordered the ingredients and was about to hang up when someone politely tugged on his pant leg.
Chi Yuehang: "?"
He looked down into a pair of bright, large eyes.
The round little face looked up at him obediently, as if asking, *What about me?*
Chi Yuehang blinked, smiled, and crouched down to look at him. "Then what does our little Shi baby want to eat?"
"Ah ya da du a ai…"
The baby’s babbling was something Chi Yuehang couldn’t understand. He subtly glanced at Lu Zhiyu.
Lu Zhiyu held up a large tablet with a few words typed on it—steamed egg custard, minced meat paste, tomato cod puree, fresh shrimp paste, fruit puree.
Chi Yuehang looked away. It seemed the little one’s appetite had grown; he could really eat.
"Alright, no problem. Uncle Chi will go prepare it right away."
He patted the chubby cheek and had a few more side dishes added.
Then he made another call to Song Qinian. "Don't bother cooking—come eat with us."
While waiting for the ingredients to arrive, Chi Yuehang had some free time and watched the children open their presents.
He often brought things home after work—sometimes cake and milk tea, sometimes bouquets and candy, and other times just small snacks or toys.
This time, he brought home milk tea and some children’s toys, along with a bouquet of Earl Grey roses for Bai Yansheng. Unfortunately, he hadn’t had time to give them to him before Bai Yansheng rushed off to work.
The two little ones each got a cup of milk tea, and all three children received toys.
Chi Chen took out the Rubik’s cube to examine it, casually testing its feel. Not bad.
Lu Zhiyu’s eyes lit up as he held the small robot, looking it over from all angles, utterly delighted. "It’s the latest robot model! Thank you, Uncle Chi!"
Lu Zhishi held his shell wind chimes and dreamcatcher, his large eyes sparkling with light.
They were truly beautiful wind chimes and a dreamcatcher, adorned with gems and pearls, pale in color yet captivating—perfect for a child to play with. One could tell at a glance they were quite valuable.
He held the items and zoomed over in his little car, stopping in front of Chi Yuehang.
Chi Yuehang shifted his gaze from his phone screen, crouched down, and wrapped an arm around the child’s back, a gentle smile appearing on his expressive face.
"What’s the matter, little one?"
The little one didn’t speak, just pressed his face against Chi Yuehang’s chest and nuzzled closer.
"Ah~"
"You’re welcome. Uncle Chi will buy you more next time, okay?"
"Mm!"
After receiving a kiss from the little one, Chi Yuehang’s heart softened, and he couldn’t help but laugh.
Such an adorable baby, his little 'tubby'.
Song Qinian was busy and didn’t arrive until after his meeting. By then, it was already quite late.
He ruffled the hair of the little one watching TV, kissed his chubby baby, and then rolled up his sleeves as he walked toward the kitchen.
Chi Yuehang glanced back and grinned. "Perfect timing."
He made room. "Wash the vegetables, wash the vegetables."
Song Qinian was both exasperated but amused. He put on an apron, stood in place, and skillfully washed the greens and mushrooms in the sink.
"You told me to come over for dinner, not that I had to work."
"Hey, I never said that. You must have misheard."
Lu Zhishi scooted around on his little wheeled scooter near the kitchen door, holding the small bottle of milk that Chi Chen had just prepared for him.
Song Qinian leaned out and asked, "Tubby, is there something you need Daddy's help with?"
Lu Zhishi tugged at his pant leg, whimpering wordlessly, blinking, his little face flushed red.
Song Qinian understood. He washed his hands, went out, bent down to pick him up, and took him upstairs to the room where Lu Zhiyu usually slept.
Once upstairs, he whispered teasingly into the chubby baby's ear, "Now the sweet tub has turned into a stinky tub."
Blinking, Lu Zhishi tried to hold it in but failed.
His lips quivered, his eyes suddenly welled up with tears, and he turned to bury his face in Song Qinian's shoulder, tears falling.
Song Qinian quickly comforted the crying little one: "Daddy misspoke. My baby is a sweet tub."
Lu Zhishi bit on his milk bottle to keep from crying out loud, not wanting to embarrass himself.
Seeing him with eyes full of tears and occasional snot bubbles, yet stubbornly refusing to cry aloud, Song Qinian was both amused and exasperated.
"You little chubby baby, you're just like your Ting'an Daddy."
He grabbed a tissue to wipe the child's nose, then wrung out a warm towel to gently clean Lu Zhishi's face and eyes.
The chubby little one lay on the small bed, sucking milk between sniffles, looking utterly pitiful.
After washing his bottom, changing his diaper, and dusting him with powder and rubbing on lotion, Song Qinian picked him up and kissed him, coaxing, "Chubby Zhishi is a sweet tub, right?"
"Mhm~"
"Then how about not telling Little Daddy on me?"
"Hmph~"
Lu Zhishi turned his head away and buried it in Song Qinian's shoulder, not moving.
Song Qinian was torn between laughter and helplessness, patted his little bottom, and carried him downstairs.
As he glanced up, he saw his younger brother's wet, red eyes. Lu Zhiyu quickly slid off the couch, hurried over on his short legs, and reached out for him. "Daddy, let me hold my brother."
Hearing the noise, Chi Chen also turned to look and followed them down.
As he got closer and saw Lu Zhishi's tearful eyes, he gave a slightly accusing look at Song Qinian.
*Uncle Song, bullying the little one.*
Song Qinian: "..."
Lu Zhiyu held his brother back to the living room, stroking his head and face.
Lu Zhishi waved his arms, gesturing at his brother, getting more upset as he went.
"Our Zhishi is a sweet tub," Lu Zhiyu understood immediately, kissing his little cheek and saying, "When we go home tonight, we'll tell Little Daddy—we'll complain."
Lu Zhishi smiled through his tears, blowing a snot bubble, and grinned, showing his little gums, nodding. "Mhm~"
Chi Chen quietly pulled out a tissue and wiped away the snot bubble.
Song Qinian fed him dinner, calling him 'little darling' with each bite, coaxing Lu Zhishi into being all smiles.
By the time they had eaten their fill and were ready to go home, the chubby baby had already fallen asleep in his daddy's arms, his little belly rising and falling gently.
Song Qinian bid farewell to Chi Chen and Lu Zhiyu. Under the bright moonlight, he carried Lu Zhishi in one arm and held Lu Zhiyu's hand with the other as they walked home.
After letting the playful little one play in their yard, stepping on their shadows for a while, Song Qinian took him inside.
"Daddy is free next weekend. I'll take you to see Little Daddy, okay?"
"Okay~" Lu Zhiyu looked up at Song Qinian. "Is little brother coming too?"
"Little brother won't. He's too small, and the weather is chilly. He'll stay with Grandmother and Grandfather for a couple of days."
The sleeping Lu Zhishi didn't know they'd planned to visit the film set the following weekend. He only found out as they were about to leave.
"Wah..."
The poor little guy looked up in disbelief at the guilty Song Qinian: "Huh?"
*Aren't you bringing your tubby to visit?*
Song Qinian looked around everywhere except into his child's clear, bright eyes, which reflected his own guilty face.
"It's just two days. You'll take two naps and then see Daddy and your brother again."
Song Qinian coaxed gently.
Lu Zhishi reached out his chubby little hands toward him. Song Qinian stepped closer, and the little hands grabbed his face and tugged. "Ah-da~ pfft!"
*Who wants to see Daddy and brother? I want to see my Ting'an Daddy!*
Song Qinian bent down, letting him squeeze and poke his face, speaking softly, "Next time, I'll take you. Be good."
Unable to change the decision, Lu Zhishi tucked his hands in, snuggled into Grandfather Song's arms, and watched them get into the car.
Before leaving, Lu Zhiyu ran over to kiss his cheek. "Big brother will bring you a gift when I come back."
"Mhm-da~"
Patting his big brother's head, Lu Zhishi turned around and buried his face in Grandfather Song's chest, round and cozy like a little gas tank.
Grandmother Song took her little grandson from Grandfather Song's arms. "Does Zhishi not like sleeping with Grandmother and Grandfather?"
Lu Zhishi pouted with his chubby little face, but at her words, he reached out and hugged her neck. "Hmph~ mhm~"
"Alright, alright, Grandmother knows. Our Zhishi does like it."
She walked around the yard with him, slowly comforting him, and soon the little one was smiling again, his big eyes curved, no longer as upset as before.
Grandfather Song followed behind, shaking a rattle drum and coaxing his grandson.
Grandfather Song had a refined and gentle appearance, with a scholarly demeanor, wearing gold-rimmed glasses and speaking elegantly and kindly. Song Qinian resembled him a bit.
Missing his daddy, Lu Zhishi instinctively leaned his chubby little body toward Grandfather Song, wanting to be held.
Grandma Song smiled as she handed the little one over to Grandpa Song, patting the child's chubby bottom with great fondness. "My little one, go take a stroll with Grandpa. Grandma will go back and make something delicious for you."
Lu Zhishi beamed at her, his eyes crinkling into crescents. "Okay~"
Grandpa Song lifted the child, giving him a little bounce, then leaned close to his wife's ear and whispered, "I'll bring you flowers when I come back. The tulips over there are in full bloom."
Grandma Song shot him a glare without saying a word, pinched his waist, and urged him along playfully. "Hurry up. Come back for dinner after your walk. Remember to wear a hat—you might not mind the sun, but don’t let the child get sunburned."
The weather was lovely today—breezy but with plenty of sun. She certainly didn’t want her sweet grandson to get too much exposure.
Before leaving, Grandma Song added, "Don’t pick the tulips. Pick sunflowers instead."
Grandpa Song freed one hand to rub his waist, smiling helplessly. "Alright, understood."
Lu Zhishi chuckled, laughing so hard his gums showed and his eyes nearly disappeared.
There were plenty of joys in spending time with Grandpa and Grandma.
