Chapter 2 Me?
byChapter 2 Me?
Though he told himself Fu Huan’s inner thought meant nothing, Gu Shiying couldn't focus in class all afternoon, his mind wandering repeatedly.
Why on earth would Fu Huan think that?
Tying someone to a bed, forbidding them to like others—how bizarre is that? Would a normal person even conceive such a thought?
Gu Shiying spent the entire afternoon trying to compose himself, repeatedly telling himself he must have misheard!
"Ying'er, why are you spacing out? Class is over, aren't you leaving?"
Zhang Zhi patted Gu Shiying’s shoulder.
"Nothing, I'm leaving now."
At this hour, the elevators were packed, so they opted for the stairs.
The two chatted as they walked.
"What are your plans for the weekend? Working part-time or staying on campus?"
"Not working part-time this week."
"How about coming out with me? I'm showing my friend around some attractions."
Zhang Zhi’s high school classmate was visiting for a couple of days, so he was playing tour guide all weekend.
"It's too hot, I don't want to go out," Gu Shiying said, watching his footing. "You guys have fun."
Normally, he wouldn't mind going out, but ever since he gained the ability to read minds, every outing risked encountering people—especially at crowded weekend tourist spots. He didn't want his mind flooded with all sorts of strange thoughts from others; it would drive him insane.
Zhang Zhi: "I'll bring you back some good food."
Just as Gu Shiying was about to say something, he noticed a guy squeezing his way upstairs against the flow of the descending crowd. He wore a hoodie, his gaunt face revealing a stubbled chin, his eyes downcast.
Ordinarily, Gu Shiying wouldn't pay attention to students going the opposite direction, but as they passed, the guy accidentally brushed against his arm.
[I’m going to stab that cheating bitch to death. One stab isn’t enough—I’ll stab her three times, ten times, fifty times. I want her to bleed out and die!]
This gruesome thought flooded Gu Shiying’s mind, startling him so much his heart nearly stopped.
Was this what the guy was thinking *right now*? How terrifying!
Gu Shiying quickly turned to look at the ascending guy and noticed the distinct shape of a knife handle bulging under his oversized hoodie sleeve.
Could this be real?
Over the past month, he had unintentionally overheard many classmates' thoughts. Even if some harbored dark ideas, none had reached the point of wanting to kill someone.
Zhang Zhi noticed Gu Shiying suddenly stop moving: "What’s wrong? If you stand still like this, someone might bump into you."
Gu Shiying turned to look back upstairs: "You go back to the dorm first. I left my phone in the classroom—I need to go get it."
He was deeply uneasy. If this guy truly intended to kill someone, he could at least alert the police. Not knowing was one thing, but knowing was another. He couldn’t just ignore it or pretend he hadn’t heard. If nothing happened, fine—but if something did, it would cost a life.
Zhang Zhi believed him and was about to say something when he saw Gu Shiying already heading in the opposite direction.
"Running so fast?"
Gu Shiying was indeed moving quickly, but he was going against the flow of the crowd. Not everyone consciously kept to the right, and some people blocked the way. He almost lost track of the guy.
The guy seemed tireless, climbing upward without pause.
Gu Shiying had already descended three floors earlier, and now, chasing the guy upstairs, he had climbed at least five floors.
Along the way, he occasionally overheard other students' thoughts, his mind buzzing with chaos.
The guy turned onto the eleventh floor.
Gu Shiying breathed a sigh of relief and stopped on the eleventh floor.
But as he stood there, he saw classrooms on both sides and had no idea whether the guy had gone left or right.
He started searching from the right side, hoping desperately that nothing would happen.
The classrooms were separated from the hallway by glass, making it easy to see inside.
As he checked room by room, he didn’t notice that someone in one of the classrooms had spotted him.
Fu Huan put down his pen, his gaze fixed on the figure moving outside the window.
His friend Liang Qi asked, "What are you looking at?"
Fu Huan shook his head: "Nothing."
Liang Qi nudged his arm: "What’s the plan for tonight?" Fu Huan glanced at his hand, and Liang Qi raised his hands apologetically, "Sorry, I’ll be more careful next time."
Then, Fu Huan spotted Gu Shiying walking back from the other end out of the corner of his eye. His gaze didn’t waver as he stood up and headed outside.
Liang Qi: "Hey, where are you going?"
Unable to contain his curiosity, he eagerly got up and followed.
Gu Shiying didn’t find the guy in the classrooms on the right side, so he must have gone left.
He was moving as fast as he could, hoping nothing would happen before he caught up.
Just as he was praying, Gu Shiying heard a scream!
It came from Classroom 1102.
The classroom door was wide open. Inside, three girls who hadn’t left yet were terrified. One of them even ran out without grabbing her phone, bumping into Gu Shiying, who was standing at the doorway.
The guy in the hoodie had now revealed his fierce face, holding a fruit knife pointed at a long-haired girl.
"You bitch, you spent so much of my money, and now that you’ve used me up, you want to dump me? Let me tell you, it’s not that easy. Today, it’s either you die or I die!"
The worst-case scenario Gu Shiying had feared was happening.
The girl being threatened with the knife stammered, "Wh-what do you want? When did I ever spend all your money?"
The guy: "I took you to expensive restaurants, bought you luxury brand items—didn’t you spend my money?"
The girl wanted to argue, but her voice trembled as the knife pointed dangerously close to her nose.
The girl: "You were the one who insisted on giving those to me. I never asked you for them…"
The boy said, "You post pictures of these luxury bags and high-end skincare products on your social media every day—wasn't that hinting at me?"
The girl: "..."
At this moment, the furious guy was still unaware that someone was quietly approaching him from behind.
Gu Shiying subtly shot the girl a look, silently urging her to distract the boy.
Too scared to stay calm, the girl knew that any response would only further provoke the boy. Stuck in the middle seat with no way to retreat, her gaze fell on Gu Shiying, who was getting closer and closer to the boy.
Not hearing a response from the girl, the boy grew even angrier: "Speak! Du Xinxin, why did you break up with me!"
The girl: "I... we’re just not compatible. If you think I spent too much of your money, I can return all the gifts you gave me—I can even pay you back in cash. Just... put the knife down."
The boy’s hand, holding the knife, trembled: "Do you look down on me?! You just want to be with someone rich!"
The girl tried to explain, her eyes shifting toward Gu Shiying, who was steadily approaching: "You’re misunderstanding, I never thought like that, really. My family isn’t poor, and I don’t lack money either."
Sensing her distraction, the boy noticed she wasn’t looking at him and suddenly turned around—catching sight of Gu Shiying!
"Who the fuck are you?! Get out! Come any closer and I won’t hold back! Oh, I get it—you’re that rich pretty boy she likes!"
Gu Shiying felt a little wronged: "It’s a misunderstanding. First, I’m not a pretty boy, and second, I’m not rich. Dude, put the knife down—this is too dangerous. Can’t we talk this out calmly?"
He was trying to figure out how to disarm the boy.
Meanwhile, as the boy’s attention shifted to Gu Shiying, the girl began to move away from her seat. But the chair made a noise as it folded up, alerting the boy. He turned back toward her, and in a fit of rage, lunged with the knife at her chest.
Terrified, the girl couldn’t help but scream again: "Ah!"
Gu Shiying, now standing just two meters away on the side, didn’t hesitate. He quickly lunged at the boy from behind, pinning him against the table.
The girl, frightened, leaned back—the knife had nearly struck her heart. When she opened her eyes, she saw the brave, good-looking guy pressing her boyfriend against the desk, one hand firmly gripping the wrist holding the knife.
Gu Shiying shouted to her: "Run!"
Though panicked, the girl still had enough survival instinct to stumble out of her seat and flee toward the exit.
Pinned down by Gu Shiying, the boy struggled with all his might. Gu Shiying could barely hold him, all while trying to avoid being cut by the knife.
Clenching his teeth, Gu Shiying realized he was losing control—and truly regretted not exercising more regularly.
"Goddamn it, stay out of this!"
Strength has its limits. The boy’s rough hands suggested he was no stranger to hard labor. Gu Shiying could only hold on for a moment before the boy swung the knife backward, throwing Gu Shiying off. He even felt a searing pain where the blade sliced his arm.
Gu Shiying quickly retreated several steps, trying to put distance between himself and the increasingly unhinged guy. But blinded by rage, the boy gripped the knife tighter and lunged at Gu Shiying.
Gu Shiying thought to himself that today was surely the day he’d die...
He raised his arms to block the knife, but it never landed. Instead, he heard a loud crash and the boy’s scream of pain.
Then, Gu Shiying heard the distinct sound of a bone cracking.
"Ahhhhhhh!"
It sounded even more painful than the cut on his own arm.
Lowering his hands from his face, Gu Shiying saw the person who had broken the boy’s knife-wielding wrist—the boy was now being pinned facedown on the floor.
Eyes wide in shock, Gu Shiying exclaimed: "Fu Huan?"
Fu Huan snatched the knife from the boy’s hand, his black sneaker digging into the boy’s cheek. If the floor had been dirt, the boy’s face would have been buried in mud. Rage burned in Fu Huan’s eyes.
"Ahhhhhhh!"
Liang Qi, who had followed Fu Huan, exclaimed: "Holy shit!"
Fu Huan lowered his eyelids, hiding the fury in his gaze, and said to Liang Qi, "I’ve called the police. Liang Qi, pin him down. There are surveillance cameras in the classroom—we can provide the footage to the police."
Hearing this, Liang Qi understood: "Got it, I’ll watch this asshole."
He switched places with Fu Huan.
Gu Shiying’s heart, which had been racing, finally settled, and only then did he feel the pain from the wound on his arm.
The bright red blood on his arm made him wince. Fu Huan looked at Gu Shiying and said, "Go to the hospital."
Gu Shiying nodded, not about to refuse.
Fu Huan was more urgent than expected, placing a hand directly on his arm. Then, Gu Shiying froze up.
It wasn’t because Fu Huan had touched his injured arm—it was because Fu Huan’s inner thoughts crashed into his mind.
[I want that idiot to die for hurting Gu Shiying.]
[How could I like such a clueless idiot?]
[This guy is so damn stupid it’s killing me!]
Gu Shiying sneaked a glance at Fu Huan, whose face had returned to its usual cool, detached expression: "..." Was he talking about me?
