Chapter 50 So Embarrassing
byChapter 50: Utterly Humiliating
Fu Huan effortlessly guided Gu Shiying into the suite the butler had prepared. He gently supported the back of Gu Shiying’s neck as he laid him on the bed. It was already autumn, so there was no need for air conditioning; a light blanket was perfect.
He playfully tapped Gu Shiying’s perky yet slightly rounded nose. “How do you know me so well? You always seem to know what I’m thinking.”
Gu Shiying, sensing the touch, wrinkled his nose and mumbled, “Stop bothering me.”
He rolled over, clutching the blanket, and continued to sleep, burying most of his face in the pillow.
The last time they had been this close was at the seaside. Three or four months had passed, yet it felt like a lifetime.
Even just watching Gu Shiying like this, without doing anything else, filled Fu Huan with immense contentment.
Fu Huan reminded himself not to rush. Gu Shiying had already agreed to be his boyfriend. They had plenty of time ahead, and he would never allow Gu Shiying to leave him. The thought of gaining and then losing him would likely drive him insane.
He wasn’t sure how long he had been watching, but his back had stiffened from sitting so long, prompting him to finally stand up.
Today was a day to remember, but no matter how excited he felt, he had to heed Gu Shiying’s words and get some proper rest.
He returned to the adjacent guest room. Before going to sleep, he asked the butler to prepare two sets of clothes—one in Gu Shiying’s size and one in his own. He specifically emphasized that they should be the same style and brand, preferably in matching colors. Only after making these arrangements did he finally drift off to sleep.
Unbeknownst to Gu Shiying, their matching outfits were already meticulously arranged.
Gu Shiying woke up at 10:30 the next morning, his hunger a familiar alarm clock since he usually ate three meals a day.
He found himself in an unfamiliar room, still wearing the clothes from the previous night, which reeked of smoke and alcohol.
A set of fresh clothes, subtly scented with fragrance beads, lay beside the bed—a simple white shirt and casual pants. Though understated in style, their quality clearly spoke of a high price tag, and they were in his size. He immediately knew Fu Huan had prepared them.
Gu Shiying ran a hand through his bedhead and decided a shower was in order.
After showering and changing, he emerged from the room feeling completely refreshed.
His phone, left charging on the bedside table, was now fully powered. The bedside also offered charging cables for various phone brands—this private club’s attention to detail was almost unnervingly thorough.
Fu Huan was nowhere to be seen in the suite’s living room, so Gu Shiying sent him a message. Fu Huan replied instantly.
[Fu Huan: I’m in the restaurant.]
It was already 11 a.m., so it made sense that Fu Huan had gone ahead to eat breakfast, though Gu Shiying felt a slight pang of disappointment that he hadn’t waited.
Another message from Fu Huan arrived.
[Fu Huan: I’m learning how to make soup with the chef. I’ll bring lunch up soon.]
[Gu Shiying: Haven’t you eaten lunch yet?]
[Fu Huan: No, I’m waiting for you.]
[Gu Shiying: Then let’s just have something simple.]
[Fu Huan: Okay, I’ll be right back.]
True to his word, Fu Huan’s “right back” was indeed almost immediate.
Gu Shiying had only just sent a few messages in the group chat asking if the others were awake, but no one had responded.
He had fallen asleep around 3 a.m.—just how late had everyone else stayed up last night?
Fu Huan wheeled a food cart back into the suite.
He told Gu Shiying that Yang Shuhang and the others had partied until 5 a.m. before finally going to sleep. Some had been so drunk they simply collapsed on the sofas. With the private butlers keeping a watchful eye, they probably wouldn’t even catch a cold.
Gu Shiying stepped forward to help him move the cart to the dining table. “None of them are awake yet?”
Fu Huan: “No, they really went all out last night.”
Gu Shiying: “They’re not all scattered around sleeping on sofas, are they?”
Fu Huan: “Not exactly. The girls all went back to their rooms. Only a few guys were too drunk to move and ended up on the sofas.”
After getting an update on the others, Gu Shiying turned his attention to the appetizing, colorful, and fragrant lunch Fu Huan had brought to the table.
Gu Shiying: “Why did you go learn how to make soup from the chef?”
Fu Huan: “Autumn is dry; having more soup is always a good idea.”
Gu Shiying: “You’re already a master chef. Why bother learning more?”
Fu Huan raised an eyebrow. “More skills never hurt, right? Mostly, I just enjoy it.” What he really enjoyed was watching Gu Shiying eat.
Gu Shiying gave a thumbs-up. “Impressive. You’re truly dedicated. Is this what they call a family tradition?”
Fu Huan placed a covered soup bowl in front of Gu Shiying. “You could say that. My maternal grandfather used to run a chain of restaurants. On my paternal grandfather’s side, they mainly deal in fast-moving consumer goods. My brother started a company making sauces. When he returned from abroad, he wanted to make canned food, but he realized people here prefer freshly prepared food. So, he switched to making various sauces instead.”
Although Gu Shiying came from an ordinary family, he never felt inferior. This was largely due to his mother’s upbringing—if he wanted something, he could work for it himself; there was no need to envy or resent others. So, even though Gu Shiying knew Fu Huan’s family was well-off, he never pried into the details.
Hearing it from Fu Huan today was a surprise—he usually never brought it up.
After last night, Gu Shiying had a better idea of Fu Huan’s family background. It seemed even wealthier than he had imagined. He had once joked about Fu Huan being a “Beijing rich kid,” but now it seemed it might actually be true.
“The chili sauce from Grandma Lin’s place—your brother bought that too, right?” Gu Shiying brought up the chili sauce topic.
“Yeah, I knew I couldn’t hide it from you,” Fu Huan admitted openly. Now that they were together, there was no need to keep secrets.
Gu Shiying: “Why did you hide it back then? You weren’t trying to give me the credit, were you?”
Fu Huan: “Yeah.”
Gu Shiying: “You really didn’t have to do that. There’s nothing wrong with you getting credit for good deeds.”
Fu Huan: “But I wanted the credit to go to you.”
Gu Shiying: “Ah, you’re really…”
Fu Huan was so good to him that Gu Shiying couldn’t even scold him. He picked up a piece of eggplant pancake and placed it in Fu Huan’s bowl. “Let’s eat. Don’t do that again. I don’t want to be Lei Feng either.”
Fu Huan: “Okay.”
Gu Shiying: “You make me seem like some domineering tyrant who brooks no argument.”
Fu Huan smiled. “I get it. From now on, I’ll discuss everything with you first.”
Only then did Gu Shiying feel reassured enough to eat. “That’s more like it.” Fu Huan was just too good to him, always yielding to his every wish.
Since everyone else was still asleep, Fu Huan took Gu Shiying to watch a movie, doing the typical couple thing.
Neither of them was fond of overly sentimental romance films, so they chose a blockbuster about superpowers—a story of a group of individuals with special abilities saving the world together.
This kind of movie doesn’t have much plot; it’s all about the special effects, purely for the thrill.
However, there was a scene in the movie where a female character with mind-reading abilities was used by the villain. Gu Shiying suddenly remembered what Fu Huan had said to him last night when he was walked back to his room. He couldn’t quite recall if Fu Huan had actually called him "baby" or not—he had a faint memory but couldn’t tell if it was real or if he had merely heard Fu Huan’s thoughts.
He shouldn’t have exposed his ability to read minds, right?
For the rest of the movie, Gu Shiying kept watching Fu Huan’s expression, but he didn't seem to react much.
After the movie ended, Fu Huan took Gu Shiying to the cinema's film exhibition, which featured introductions to film history and displays of old-fashioned cameras. He thought Gu Shiying would enjoy it.
It was during movie hours, so the exhibit was pretty empty. Fu Huan noticed that Gu Shiying seemed distracted, sometimes looking at him, sometimes looking like he wanted to say something.
Fu Huan looked at him gently: "What’s wrong?"
Gu Shiying hesitated but still wanted to clarify whether he had exposed his superpower: "Did I say something silly last night? That… did you call me…"
Fu Huan also remembered, and he smiled: "What did I call you?"
Gu Shiying’s face heated up: "You called me…" It was too embarrassing to say.
Fu Huan wanted to tease him: "You called me first."
Gu Shiying quickly denied it, turning his head away to look at a Republic of China-era movie poster in front of him: "I didn’t."
Fu Huan wrapped his arm around Gu Shiying’s shoulder and whispered in his ear: "Baby."
Gu Shiying’s whole body heated up immediately. He elbowed Fu Huan’s chest: "Wow, you’re so shameless."
Fu Huan didn’t back away but instead held him tighter: "You are my baby."
Gu Shiying covered Fu Huan’s mouth with his hand: "Shut up, don’t say anymore."
Jeez, even if he didn’t say it out loud, in his heart he was still calling him "baby, baby." Gu Shiying felt both shy and speechless.
Dating felt like soaking in a hot spring, his heart burning with warmth.
After that day, though not explicitly public, Fu Huan and Gu Shiying spent even more time attached at the hip.
They changed each other’s WeChat nicknames: Fu Huan changed Gu Shiying’s to "Baby," and Gu Shiying changed Fu Huan’s to "King of Shamelessness."
The temperature in Jing City dropped quickly; they only wore autumn clothes for half a month before it was time to switch to winter wear.
Gu Shiying wasn’t particularly demanding about food or clothing, but this year was different—he had Fu Huan keeping an eye on him. Starting from the day they confessed their feelings, almost all of Gu Shiying’s clothes, big and small, were handled by Fu Huan.
It was only early winter, and he had already given Gu Shiying three wool sweaters, two coats, and two pairs of shoes.
Unlike some boyfriends who give surprises, Fu Huan simply placed them directly in Gu Shiying’s closet. After all, they were roommates, and especially after getting together, Gu Shiying gave him access to his closet. So Fu Huan took advantage of this privilege and, like a squirrel storing nuts, replaced Gu Shiying’s entire wardrobe.
At first, it was just a hoodie, a pair of jeans, or some socks. Gu Shiying didn’t pay much attention. But after a month, all his old clothes had been replaced by Fu Huan. When he went looking for last year’s down jacket, he realized his wardrobe had already been completely updated.
"Fu Huan, where’s my down jacket?"
Gu Shiying searched for a while but couldn’t find it, so he turned to ask Fu Huan, who was sitting in a chair reviewing market analysis cases.
Fu Huan knew all of Gu Shiying’s down jackets: "Which one? The blue one or the white one?"
Gu Shiying: "The blue one."
Fu Huan: "The sleeves on that one were worn out. I got you a new one; it’s in my closet."
After two weeks together, Gu Shiying had grown accustomed to Fu Huan’s sneaky habits.
Gu Shiying sighed helplessly: "You changed my clothes again? That one was still wearable."
Fu Huan had a solid reason: "It was old and didn't keep you warm."
He went to the closet and took out the new blue down jacket he had bought for Gu Shiying, hanging it in his wardrobe.
It was also blue, but in terms of material and fit, it was in a completely different league from Gu Shiying’s old one.
Gu Shiying put his hands on his hips, pretending to be angry: "You’re making me feel indebted."
Fu Huan looked into his eyes sincerely: "But I just love buying things for you. I earn money to spend on you. Why wouldn't I like it?"
Fu Huan wrapped his arms around Gu Shiying’s waist, pulling him close, and leaned down to bite Gu Shiying’s lip.
Gu Shiying lightly pushed his shoulders but still couldn’t break free or resist.
"Wait, not now… Mmm…"
Around this time, Yang Shuhang and Guan Yu would be coming back soon.
"Not waiting. I want to kiss."
Gu Shiying could only let him kiss. Actually, he enjoyed it too. Fu Huan had a natural talent for kissing and improved quickly, always making Gu Shiying feel incredibly good.
After a long kiss, Gu Shiying leaned against Fu Huan, catching his breath. Fu Huan leaned down and gently bit his neck, accidentally biting too hard and hurting him. He never knew when to quit.
Gu Shiying patted the back of his head: "Hey, that hurts."
Fu Huan licked the spot: "Does it still hurt?"
Gu Shiying covered his neck, his eyes turning red as he glared: "You try letting me bite you."
Fu Huan’s eyes lit up with excitement: "Go ahead, bite me anywhere you want."
Gu Shiying: "…"
In daily life, Fu Huan had completely taken over Gu Shiying’s personal space, possessively claiming him as his own.
But when it came to physical intimacy, even after a month together, they had only hugged, kissed, and bit each other’s necks.
Gu Shiying knew that every time they kissed, Fu Huan’s physical reaction was intense. That was why he didn’t dare go to Fu Huan’s house alone, sticking to the dorm—he was afraid he’d get eaten alive if they went.
He also knew this was an inevitable part of being a couple, but Fu Huan was not small, ahhhh!
After cuddling for a while, Yang Shuhang and Guan Yu came back to the dorm one after the other, suddenly killing the mood.
The next day in class, Gu Shiying couldn’t pay attention at all. He kept looking down, replying to messages, and didn’t even hear Zhang Zhi talking to him.
Zhang Zhi accidentally caught a glimpse of the explicit messages someone was sending him and started worrying about his innocent friend.
"Ying Er, is this coming on too strong? Is this harassment? What kind of message is this? What does 'you’ll fall in love after doing it with him' mean? Damn, is this guy gay?"
Gu Shiying put away his phone, his face slowly heating up: "…You saw wrong."
Shit, he shouldn’t have asked Chen Jian about this—so embarrassing!
