Chapter 51 It’s Bound to Happen Sooner or Later
byChapter 51 Sooner or Later It Will Come
The temperature in Beijing plummeted several degrees each day, but Gu Shiying’s spirits were soaring, completely unfazed.
Chen Jian had sent him a cloud drive link with several gigabytes of files. He had no desire to look at them, yet he felt compelled to "study." Not only that, Chen Jian went the extra mile, sending him links to several shops. At first, Gu Shiying thought they were legitimate, but they all turned out to be adult novelty stores.
As innocent as Gu Shiying was, for two whole days, he couldn't bring himself to look Fu Huan in the eye. Seeing Fu Huan wake up with a morning erection embarrassed him so much that he spent the entire day avoiding him.
Early this morning, he again dodged Fu Huan, not even having breakfast with him. Usually, he'd reply to Fu Huan's messages instantly, but today he was too nervous to respond. Anything related to Fu Huan made him think of those bizarre adult products and the various videos Chen Jian had sent him. Of course, he only squinted and glanced at them briefly—he truly couldn't bear to watch two naked bodies pressed together; it was too cringey.
After several days of this, Fu Huan was utterly confused, unable to figure out why Gu Shiying had started avoiding him.
Could it be that he really didn’t like him anymore?
Liang Qi noticed that Fu Huan, who was usually inseparable from his boyfriend, had been eating with him these past couple of days.
Liang Qi: "Not eating with Gu Shiying today?"
Fu Huan: "He won’t eat with me."
Liang Qi: "Did you guys get into a fight? Just the other day, you two were stuck together like glue."
Fu Huan: "No fight. He suddenly stopped responding to me."
Liang Qi: "Aren’t you going to ask why?"
Fu Huan: "He’s avoiding me. I can’t corner him."
Liang Qi: "You live in the same dorm—how can you not catch him?"
Fu Huan: "He comes back late at night, showers, and goes straight to bed. He also has a lot of classes during the day."
Liang Qi: "Then go ambush him after class."
Fu Huan thought about it but felt it would be disrespectful to Gu Shiying: "Forget it. Maybe he’s just really swamped these days and isn’t deliberately avoiding me."
Liang Qi: "…"
After all that sighing and sulking, this is the conclusion you come up with?
Liang Qi tskked: "You’re being a wimp."
Fu Huan: "…"
He wasn’t being cowardly—he was respecting Gu Shiying. He was worried whether Gu Shiying was having regrets.
While Liang Qi noticed that Fu Huan and Gu Shiying weren’t sticking together, Zhang Zhi also noticed the same thing.
"Hey? Aren’t you having dinner with Fu Huan again tonight?"
Gu Shiying, a little sheepish, replied: "Yeah."
Zhang Zhi: "Then let’s go have dry pot! It’s been forever!"
Gu Shiying: "Still going to Li Ji?"
Zhang Zhi: "Of course! Their spicy flavor is the real deal near our school. Come on, I’m already drooling."
As they reached the elevator, Gu Shiying spotted Fu Huan staring down at his shoes, looking dejected, like an abandoned puppy, all pathetic and lonely.
Gu Shiying had to stifle a laugh.
Zhang Zhi: "Is Fu Huan waiting for you?"
Gu Shiying: "Yeah, he probably needs something. Let’s skip dry pot today."
Zhang Zhi: "Alright then. You two are like a couple, always glued together."
He had previously stood Gu Shiying up for a girl—talk about karma.
Gu Shiying: "We *are* a couple, though."
Zhang Zhi chuckled and threw an arm around another classmate’s shoulder, walking away, not buying a word of Gu Shiying’s truth.
Gu Shiying approached the seemingly pitiful Fu Huan, feeling a pang of guilt. He had been kind of a jerk to him these past couple of days, avoiding him for no reason.
"Why wait here? It’s windy—you could catch a chill."
Fu Huan, hands in his pockets, handed him a can of pomelo tea: "Got this for you."
Gu Shiying took the tea, popped it open, and took a sip: "I’m hungry. What do you want for dinner?"
Fu Huan: "Want me to cook?"
Gu Shiying: "Sure. Can I make requests?"
Fu Huan: "Of course."
Gu Shiying decided to tease him and listed: "Roasted young goose, steamed lamb, steamed bear paw…"
Fu Huan slipped an arm around his shoulders, laughing. The annoyance of the past two days vanished instantly.
"Alright, tell me—why have you been avoiding me these past two days?"
Gu Shiying glanced around at the crowded area and whispered: "I’ll tell you tonight. It’s not convenient now."
Knowing it wasn’t because Gu Shiying regretted being with him, Fu Huan felt less urgent about getting an answer.
They usually stayed on campus, but the off-campus place Fu Huan occasionally stayed at only had a few cans of beer left, which Liang Qi had bought during a previous visit.
As they entered the elevator, Fu Huan took Gu Shiying’s hand and said: "Let’s go to the supermarket first to buy some ingredients."
The moment he held it, Gu Shiying pulled his hand away.
Fu Huan glanced at him: "Hmm?"
Gu Shiying glared at him, mouthing silently: *There are people.*
Fu Huan formed an "oh" with his lips. Gu Shiying elbowed him playfully and laughed.
They usually shopped at the campus supermarket, occasionally buying snacks with Zhang Zhi and the others. But after Fu Huan took over handling the groceries and supplies, Gu Shiying rarely went to the supermarket anymore.
This was Gu Shiying and Fu Huan’s first time going to a supermarket off-campus. It was slightly bigger than the one on campus, but not by much.
Unlike on campus, there were fewer students here, so Fu Huan could hold Gu Shiying’s hand as much as he wanted. He even stole a kiss from Gu Shiying while they were crouching together looking for doubanjiang.
Gu Shiying didn’t know what to say—he was getting more and more daring by the day.
He knew that from the very first day they got together, Fu Huan had been eager to let the whole world know they were a couple.
In less than two months, this guy had already progressed to casually kissing him in public. What was even more frightening was that he didn’t feel like resisting at all—his boundaries kept slipping.
While checking out, Gu Shiying noticed the adult products displayed at the counter and silently averted his gaze.
He observed Fu Huan’s reaction, which seemed indifferent, so he touched his hand to hear what he was thinking right then.
This guy used to fantasize about doing all sorts of things to him every day—could it be that he wasn’t thinking about anything now? Had he gotten innocent?
But as soon as Gu Shiying touched his hand, he realized he was the naive one—what was going through Fu Huan’s mind was so filthy that he felt utterly embarrassed.
Fu Huan picked up the shopping bag and noticed Gu Shiying secretly touching his hand. Thinking he wanted to hold hands, he laced their fingers together.
“Time to head home.”
“Okay.”
Gu Shiying’s face grew redder with every step. It wasn’t until they got into the car that Fu Huan noticed.
“Do you have a fever? Why is your face so red?”
“It’s nothing. Maybe I wore too much today—I worked up a sweat from walking.”
Fu Huan let out a low laugh. “Why do you blush every time we hold hands? Are you still getting used to me?”
Gu Shiying couldn’t say what he really felt. If it weren’t for Fu Huan’s explicit thoughts, would he be blushing?
He muttered, “I’m just not used to it, not used to it at all.”
Fu Huan found him adorable and quickly kissed him on the lips.
Gu Shiying swatted his face away. “Why do you keep kissing me? Are you hooked on it?”
Fu Huan: “You’re my only addiction.”
Gu Shiying: “Just drive, drive. I’m really hungry.”
Fu Huan laughed as he drove, still smiling even as they reached the doorstep.
As long as he was with Gu Shiying, he was rarely unhappy—so much so that he couldn’t even remember the last time he’d been in a bad mood.
This was Gu Shiying’s first time at Fu Huan’s place. Fu Huan was renting it—his family had wanted to buy him a place, but he’d rented during high school and was fine with it.
Since Gu Shiying stayed in the dorm, Fu Huan hadn’t come back here often this semester, but the place wasn’t neglected. Most of his clothes were here, and he’d often return to cook something for Gu Shiying to take back to the dorm.
Gu Shiying wasn’t great at cooking, and Fu Huan never let him help—not even with breaking apart garlic cloves.
Even when they’d stayed at his grandmother’s, Fu Huan had insisted on handling everything. By now, Gu Shiying was used to waiting without feeling bad about it.
He stood by the door nibbling on an apple, chatting with Fu Huan to pass the time.
The apartment had a retro style, and the kitchen was decorated in a retro theme.
Gu Shiying noticed a soy milk machine on the counter and a large bag of soybeans on the shelf.
He remembered the time last semester when he’d injured his arm—Fu Huan had brought him breakfast with soy milk. He’d commented on how creamy and tasty it was, but he’d never found soy milk that tasted the same anywhere else, whether on or off campus.
Lately, Fu Huan had started buying him breakfast again, and he’d finally tasted it once more.
So, Fu Huan had been treating him well all along—so well that he could hardly wrap his head around it.
Gu Shiying walked up behind Fu Huan, who was cleaning shrimp, slipped an arm around his waist, and held the apple up to him. Fu Huan took a big bite from where Gu Shiying had eaten.
Fu Huan reminded him, “Don’t eat too much, or you won’t have room for dinner.”
Gu Shiying, feeling touched, nuzzled his cheek against Fu Huan’s back. “Okay.”
Fu Huan loved it when Gu Shiying was clingy. He stood steady, working more slowly on the shrimp, savoring every moment they spent together.
Gu Shiying: “Do you come back here in the morning to make soy milk and then bring it to school?”
Fu Huan: “You noticed?”
Gu Shiying: “It’s pretty obvious.”
Fu Huan: “I noticed you liked it. The soy milk at school is tasteless, so I wanted you to try something better.”
Gu Shiying: “Even if I couldn’t have liked you back then, you still did this. Didn’t you think it was too much trouble?”
Fu Huan: “No. Wanting to treat you well doesn’t need many reasons or seem like a hardship. Don’t feel pressured—I enjoy the process of liking you and looking out for you. If you’re happy drinking it, I’ll be happy all day. Understand?”
Gu Shiying: “Oh, so you’re saying I’m like a pig, all I do is eat.”
Fu Huan: “Then be my little pig.”
Gu Shiying jabbed his side. “You’re the pig.”
In the end, Gu Shiying was completely won over.
Fu Huan was happy with him, and he was happy too. Lately, he’d even noticed a bit of extra padding on his waist—was he really being turned into a pig?
Dinner included several of Gu Shiying’s favorite dishes, and his stomach was more than happy to oblige.
After the meal, Gu Shiying proactively started clearing the table to walk off the meal.
Being with Fu Huan gave him a sense of the comfort of domestic life.
But as he sipped the grapefruit tea Fu Huan had made for him, he turned and saw the look in Fu Huan’s eyes—as if he wanted to devour him. He sat bolt upright instinctively.
Fu Huan slid an arm around his waist, rested his chin on Gu Shiying’s shoulder, pressed his face close to his ear, and said, his voice dropping, “Stay the night, okay?”
“What for?” Gu Shiying blinked, wanting to refuse, but Fu Huan always knew when to take charge.
He turned Gu Shiying’s face toward him and kissed him. “What do you think?”
Gu Shiying could only close his eyes.
He knew this moment would happen eventually…
