Chapter 406 Delivering a Message
by 枕星鱼Chapter 406: Reporting the News
She had just gotten up to go check things out when she saw Luo Junhe's gaze darken, a flash of murderous intent flickering in his peach blossom eyes.
"Ah Tang, it sounds like someone's outside."
Ji Yuntang narrowed her eyes and said in a low voice, "I'll go check it out."
Seeing the worried look on Luo Junhe's face, she comforted him, "Don't worry, I've got a weapon for self-defense. Nothing will happen to me."
Just then, a faint rustling came from outside, along with the sound of leaves stirring.
Ji Yuntang's gaze turned cold. "They're here already?"
She grabbed a scalpel from the room and darted out.
Hua Feixue was just heading to Ji Yuntang's kitchen to grab a bite when she saw a glint of steel thrusting toward her chest.
She dodged, and the two traded a few quick moves.
Hua Feixue didn't want to get into a drawn-out fight with Ji Yuntang, so she ripped off the black mask from her face.
"Little Bastard, it's me!"
Ji Yuntang looked at her warily. "Why are you here at the Prince Ye's mansion in the middle of the night instead of sleeping?"
Hua Feixue plopped down on a stone bench and said with a sly grin, "This Sect Master came to bring you a surprise, of course!"
"I'm afraid what you're giving me is more of a scare than a surprise." Ji Yuntang sneered. "Blood Master, we've already agreed before—you keep my secret, I keep yours. We stay out of each other's way and owe each other nothing."
Hua Feixue raised an eyebrow and said lazily, "That's right, this Sect Master hasn't spilled your secret either!"
"Little Bastard, I came today to tell you something. Your adoptive family has already arrived in the capital and are staying at the Marquis Yongning's residence right now."
"Ji Qingqing is unwilling to take them in. If nothing unexpected happens, they'll come looking for you at the Prince Ye's mansion tomorrow."
She sighed as she spoke. "So pathetic! They want to latch onto wealth and glory, but their own biological daughter won't even acknowledge them, so they can only come crawling to you, their adopted daughter!"
Alarm bells went off in Ji Yuntang's head. "How do you know all this?"
The moment she asked, it hit her. "Blood Flower, it's you!"
"You're the one who called them here!"
Ji Yuntang's words weren't a question but a statement of fact.
Wu Jinxi's family lived in a small mountain village with no access to news, far from the capital. There was no way they could have gotten news from the capital.
Unless someone had deliberately told them.
That someone was almost certainly from the Marquis Yongning's residence.
Looking at her smug expression, Ji Yuntang was dead certain it was her!
Hua Feixue curled her lips into a sly smile and admitted it right away.
"This Sect Master just wrote a letter and had my men deliver it to them. It was just a small favor, nothing for Princess Ye to fuss over."
Ji Yuntang's mouth twitched, and she was utterly speechless.
She asked, "You're staying at the Marquis Yongning's residence, so why would you do this?"
Hua Feixue said nonchalantly, "The Blood Rain Sect has always paid back grudges. Ji Qingqing and you have both offended this Sect Master, so I had to get my revenge, didn't I?"
"What she cares about most is the position of Crown Princess, so this Sect Master found a way to make sure she never becomes Crown Princess."
"As for you—your temper is a bit rough, but your character is decent. Whether or not the Blood Rain Sect's treasury was stolen by you, this Sect Master still needed to take some anger out on you."
She suspected Ji Yuntang of stealing her treasury, which was why she'd searched the entire Prince Ye's mansion when she first got there.
There were plenty of ornaments and treasures, but none of them were items missing from the Blood Rain Sect.
Hua Feixue even started to wonder if she'd misjudged her.
Ji Yuntang was utterly exasperated. "Blood Master, you really are insufferably boring."
But then again, if she were normal, she wouldn't be Blood Feihua, would she?
Hua Feixue looked at Ji Yuntang with surprise. She'd expected Ji Yuntang to get angry and fight her, but she didn't.
She curled her lips. "This Sect Master has delivered the news. From here on, you're on your own!"
"Oh, and that tea of yours is pretty good—real sweet."
With that, her figure flickered and disappeared into the night sky above the Prince Ye's mansion.
When Ji Yuntang returned to the room, she found Luo Junhe frowning in deep thought, as if pondering something.
Noticing Ji Yuntang had come in, he snapped out of his thoughts and asked, "Ah Tang, that man from earlier—do you know him?"
Ji Yuntang nodded. "He's Blood Feihua, the leader of the Blood Rain Sect. Ever since the Crown Prince led troops to suppress the Blood Rain Sect last time and failed, Blood Feihua came down from the mountain."
"Recently, he's been staying at the Marquis Yongning's residence disguised as a woman and rarely goes out. I only met him a few days ago at the barbecue restaurant, and we had a bit of a run-in."
"He just came to tell me my adoptive parents are here. I have no idea what he's really up to."
After saying this, she asked curiously, "Ah He, did you notice something?"
Luo Junhe pursed his lips and said in a low voice, "This Prince feels like he's seen him somewhere before, but I can't quite place it."
He only felt a sharp pain in his head, images on the verge of breaking through, but he couldn't remember where he had seen Blood Feihua.
Seeing this, Ji Yuntang quickly took out a silver needle from her space and pricked the back of Luo Junhe's neck.
His pain immediately subsided!
Ji Yuntang said softly, "It's fine. If you can't remember, don't force it. We'll deal with it when you do."
Luo Junhe's body had just recovered, and he really shouldn't overexert his mind.
The two sat side by side on the bed. He took Ji Yuntang's hand and asked, "Ah Tang, you said your adoptive parents are coming to the Prince Ye's mansion tomorrow?"
Ji Yuntang sneered. "Not just my adoptive parents—there are also two leeches, one big and one small."
She searched through the original owner's memories and said slowly, "The older one, Wu Shijie, is over eighteen and still unmarried. He lies around at home mooching off his parents all day. When I was there, he ordered me around like a servant, making me bring him tea and water."
"The younger one, Wu Chaoyang, is a born troublemaker. He constantly came up with ways to torment me—either putting toads and centipedes on my bed, or pushing me into the river and watching me sink while he clapped and cheered."
"Don't let his age fool you—he's only just turned seven and looks innocent, but his scheming mind is no less sharp than any woman in the inner chambers."
"My adoptive father Wu Jinxi was lazy and shiftless, a drunk through and through. When he was drinking, he'd either harass decent women outside or come home and fly into a drunken rage, beating me."
"If I weren't so clever and always ran off to hide whenever I saw him drunk, I'd probably have been beaten to death by him long ago!"
"As for my adoptive mother Chen Huaxiu, she was greedy as they come and always up to petty thievery. When caught, she'd make a huge scene, threatening to kill herself, lying on the ground crying about how miserable her life was and that she couldn't survive without stealing. The village head, soft-hearted, would always forgive her!"
"This whole family is often criticized even in their small mountain village—none of them are any good."
Luo Junhe felt a pang of sympathy. It was hard to imagine how she had managed to endure those sixteen years.
