Chapter 506: He Returns
by 枕星鱼Chapter 506: She's Not Human
Hua Feixue: "..."
Hua Feixue: "!!!"
From the moment Ji Yuntang followed Hua Feixue to the Xishu Kingdom, she had never planned to hide her secret space.
After all, if she didn't show it to her now, she would still have to reveal it in a couple of days anyway.
She might as well let her get used to it in advance, so she wouldn't be so shocked later.
Hua Feixue snapped out of her shock, her pupils constricting as she stood there, dazed, before she could find her voice again.
"Are you a ghost or a person?"
Thinking back now, Ji Yuntang's various behaviors were all different from everyone else's.
Her brilliant medical skills, unique ideas, exquisite cooking, strange undergarments, and the incredibly powerful grenades.
None of these things seemed like anything a human could create.
If Hua Feixue had previously thought Ji Yuntang was a genius, now that she understood all this, she instead felt that the other woman might not even be human.
Ji Yuntang rolled her eyes at her, looking utterly exasperated. "Have you ever seen a ghost that has a shadow and a body temperature?"
Hua Feixue thought about it, and that made sense. She had actually fought Ji Yuntang hand-to-hand before.
"So if you're not a ghost, then are you human?"
Ji Yuntang looked at her with an enigmatic smile. "What do you think?"
Hua Feixue: "..."
She felt a chill run down her spine from Ji Yuntang's gaze and took a step back. "Then you must be a monster!"
"Let me guess—are you a fox spirit that's cultivated for a thousand years, a snake demon hiding in the mountains, or maybe a nimble cat demon..."
"With how smart you are, there's no way you're a dumb pig demon, right?"
Ji Yuntang's mouth twitched a couple of times. She wondered why it hadn't rained outside today—turns out Hua Feixue had left her completely speechless!
"What is all this ridiculous stuff?"
"I'm not a ghost or a demon. I'm human—a real, living human. I'm from the future world."
Hua Feixue immediately latched onto the key phrase. "Future world?"
Ji Yuntang looked at her. "That's right. There's a concept called time travel. I traveled here from a thousand years in the future."
Hua Feixue's curiosity was instantly piqued. She didn't know if the other woman was telling the truth or not, but this was definitely the first time she'd ever heard such a claim, and she couldn't help but want to discuss it further.
She was just about to press Ji Yuntang for more when Ji Yuntang said impatiently, "You have so many questions—do you still want to save Miss Shen or what?"
Hua Feixue immediately shut her mouth.
Ji Yuntang felt the whole world fall silent!
She continued treating Shen Shiran. The blood test results came back, showing that Shen Shiran had an adenovirus infection, which was why her fever wouldn't go down.
But what puzzled Ji Yuntang was that a regular adenovirus infection would only cause a persistent high fever and diarrhea—it wouldn't leave someone unconscious.
Yet Shen Shiran had been unconscious for two days without waking up.
The only possible explanation was that she didn't want to wake up herself.
A bold guess suddenly formed in Ji Yuntang's mind.
She said, "The reason Miss Shen hasn't woken up isn't just because of the fever. There's another possibility—she doesn't have a strong will to live."
"If this princess isn't wrong, she didn't accidentally fall into the water this time. She jumped in on purpose to kill herself."
"Only someone who truly wants to die would lose all interest in the outside world and use death to escape reality."
"So, the people at the Zhenguo General's Mansion haven't been telling us the truth."
"How is that possible?" Hua Feixue's heart jumped into her throat after hearing her words, her face full of disbelief.
In her memory, Shen Shiran had always been an optimistic and bright woman. Her kindness and courage had deeply influenced Hua Feixue.
Hua Feixue still remembered that when she was seven years old, Empress Dowager Yuan had locked her in a dark room, and she could only survive by pretending to be crazy and dumb.
The palace servants, acting on Empress Dowager Yuan's orders, cursed her as a little idiot, abused her, and refused to give her food—and she could only endure it all in bitterness.
It was Shen Shiran's appearance that shone into her heart like a ray of light.
She was only five years old then, such a small and fragile little girl, yet she bravely stepped forward and chased away those palace servants who were bullying her.
From that moment on, this little girl with twin buns and a purple embroidered brocade skirt had taken root in Hua Feixue's heart.
Shen Shiran never looked down on her for being dirty, nor did she call her dumb. Instead, she would pull her along to play and share the pastries she had brought.
Hua Feixue would never forget that the darkest time in her life was when Shen Shiran accompanied her and encouraged her to get through it.
She was also the only person besides her father the Emperor and her mother the Empress who knew she wasn't actually dumb.
Shen Shiran had kept this secret for Hua Feixue for ten years.
Emperor Chu had also recognized Shen Shiran's character, which was why he had insisted on betrothing her to Chu Yi as the Crown Princess, despite Empress Dowager Yuan's objections.
However, the wife of the Zhenguo General wasn't too happy about this marriage.
Pulling herself back from her thoughts, Hua Feixue glanced at the woman lying on the bed and asked Ji Yuntang anxiously.
"Can you wake her up?"
Ji Yuntang smiled slightly. "Leave it to this princess."
Not to mention that Shen Shiran's illness wasn't that severe yet.
Even if she were truly at death's door, as long as she had a single breath left, she could pull her back from the jaws of death.
With Ji Yuntang's assurance, Hua Feixue felt a bit more at ease.
Ji Yuntang injected Shen Shiran with medicine and applied a fever patch to bring down her temperature.
After about half an hour, the woman on the bed fluttered her eyelashes and slowly opened her eyes.
Hua Feixue immediately rushed to the bedside and asked nervously, "A Ran, you're awake?"
Shen Shiran's eyes looked blank. She turned her head and then realized a strikingly beautiful stranger was sitting by her bedside, beaming at her.
Before she could process it, the woman suddenly grabbed her hand tightly.
Oddly enough, she didn't mind the touch.
Just as Shen Shiran was momentarily stunned, Hua Feixue's low voice rang out.
Her expression was conflicted. "A Ran, how could you be so foolish?"
This time, she didn't bother disguising her voice—she used her real one.
Shen Shiran's body stiffened, then she looked at Hua Feixue in disbelief, her heart suddenly skipping a beat.
"Brother Chu Yi, is that you?"
A smile tugged at the corner of Hua Feixue's lips as she reached out and hugged her tightly.
"A Ran, it's me. I'm back."
The two held each other in a sweet embrace. Ji Yuntang mused that with the young couple reunited, she was just a thousand-watt light bulb in the room.
She wanted to open the door and leave, giving them some private time alone.
But on second thought, Ji Yuntang realized the people of the General's Mansion were all waiting outside. If she opened the door and stepped out now, Hua Feixue and Shen Shiran would most likely have no chance to catch up!
