Chapter 505: Her Secret
by 枕星鱼Chapter 505: Her Secret
The guard's voice came through, "Miss Yun, we have arrived at Grand General Zhenguo's mansion. Please, Miss Yun and the two distinguished guests, step down from the carriage."
The three of them got off the carriage, and the guard led them into the Grand General Zhenguo's mansion.
The mansion was imposing and solemn, with red walls, green tiles, corridors, courtyards, pavilions, and bridges, encircled by clear streams and rockeries, with a bed of spring orchids and camellias planted in the middle.
A cool night breeze drifted through, carrying waves of rich, fragrant blossoms.
Though the family was known for martial prowess, the residence was decorated with exquisite refinement.
A few maids were sweeping the courtyard, and the servants were also busying themselves in an orderly fashion.
Hua Feixue had clearly been to the Grand General Zhenguo's mansion before, so she knew exactly where Shen Shiran's residence was. Her steps unconsciously quickened, quickly leaving Ji Yuntang and Xie Liuzheng in the dust.
Ji Yuntang's lips twitched slightly, and she muttered inwardly, "Hua Feixue, true to form, couldn't wait to see her beloved—she couldn't even wait a single moment."
"If not for the two guards leading the way ahead, she'd probably have already used her lightness skill to fly over there!"
Fearing Hua Feixue might get too worked up and lose control, Ji Yuntang hurried after her, reminding her, "Sister-in-law, this is our first visit to the Grand General Zhenguo's mansion, and I've never seen such a big estate before."
"Slow down a little and wait for me and my brother, okay? If you run off and get lost, we won't be able to find you!"
Hua Feixue caught Ji Yuntang's underlying message—she was indirectly reminding her to remember she was a first-time visitor and not to forget the role she was playing.
Her pace did indeed slow down considerably because of that.
The group trailed after the guard, going around the crabapple-flowered hanging gate, and reached a refined and tranquil courtyard.
Looking up, they saw a plaque bearing three delicately written characters—Flower Moon Pavilion.
The guard halted and said, "This is our young lady's courtyard. The Grand General Zhenguo and his wife are both inside with the young lady. Please wait here a moment while I go in to announce you."
Ji Yuntang nodded, "Much obliged!"
Before long, a middle-aged couple walked out of the Flower Moon Pavilion. The woman looked about thirty, remarkably youthful for her age. She wore a front-buttoned long robe, wore her hair in a simple bun, and her serene, dignified face showed a hint of urgency.
The man was about forty, burly in build with stern features. His sharp, eagle-like eyes burned with intensity, and his square face was steeped in a grim, killing intent.
Up close, one could barely make out the faint stubble on his chin.
The two were none other than Grand General Shen Xiangming and his wife, Lady Mo Ziqing.
Mo Ziqing looked at the three of them, then turned her gaze to Ji Yuntang, stepped forward and said urgently:
"You must be Doctor Yun who just took down the announcement. My daughter's fever won't break. Please hurry in and take a look at her."
Just as Ji Yuntang was about to step inside, she heard Madam Mo's polite voice from behind.
"Doctor Yun is going in to treat my daughter. Please, miss, wait here for a moment. Whether she's cured or not, our mansion won't harm Doctor Yun—please rest assured on that."
She said this to Hua Feixue, because Hua Feixue wanted to go in with Ji Yuntang.
Mo Ziqing was worried that Hua Feixue going in would disturb Ji Yuntang while she took the pulse, so she held her back.
But Ji Yuntang noticed Hua Feixue in time. Knowing that Hua Feixue wanted to go in to see Miss Shen, she turned and called out.
"Sister-in-law, I forgot my medicine box in the carriage. Hurry and go fetch it for me."
Hua Feixue instantly understood and ran off!
Shen Xiangming stared intently at Hua Feixue's retreating figure, lost in thought.
He felt the silhouette looked somewhat familiar, but then thought he was overthinking it—after all, apart from her figure and eyes, nothing else matched that person.
Even the gender didn't match.
Before long, Hua Feixue delivered the medicine box to Shen Shiran's room.
Ji Yuntang said to the two maids in the room, "I need to treat your young lady, and I'm not used to having outsiders present other than my sister-in-law. Please step outside and wait for a moment."
The two maids exchanged glances, looking hesitant.
Shen Xiangming walked in and instructed, "Doctor Yun is here to treat Ran'er. Do as she says and wait outside!"
His words carried a father's worry for his daughter.
Many doctors had come after the notice was posted, but none had been able to cure Shen Shiran—she hadn't even shown the slightest sign of waking up.
Shen Xiangming was afraid she might never wake again, and now he was just grasping at straws!
Whatever method there was, he was willing to try.
"Doctor Yun, this general and my wife will be right outside. If you need any medicinal herbs, just say the word, and I'll have someone fetch them for you."
"Please, do everything in your power to save my daughter."
Ji Yuntang said solemnly, "Rest assured, Grand General, I will definitely wake Miss Shen up."
With that, Shen Xiangming left and closed the door behind him.
Once they were gone, Hua Feixue immediately rushed to Shen Shiran's bedside.
Looking at the beautiful young woman lying quietly on the bed, all the worry in her heart burst forth at that moment.
The young woman had delicate, picturesque features—fair and ethereal. Her jet-black hair lay neatly spread across the pillow, and her snow-white cheeks were flushed and hot from the persistent fever. She looked like a porcelain doll that would shatter at the slightest touch.
A pang of tenderness passed through Hua Feixue's heart. She grabbed the woman's hand and called out softly, again and again, "A Ran, A Ran, please wake up, won't you?"
Ji Yuntang could fully understand Hua Feixue's feelings, but treating the illness was more important.
She took out a thermometer from her medicine box and comforted her, "Don't worry first. Let me take a look at her!"
Only then did Hua Feixue reluctantly let go of the woman's hand.
She watched as Ji Yuntang took out a strange device and waved it across Shen Shiran's forehead. With a soft "beep," a number she couldn't understand appeared.
"Thirty-nine point five degrees. She's been running a fever for quite a while!"
Ji Yuntang put away the thermometer, and Hua Feixue immediately asked, "What is that? What were you doing?"
Ji Yuntang glanced at her, "You wouldn't understand even if I told you. Just stand over there."
With that, she stopped talking and instead took out a syringe, drew a tube of blood from Shen Shiran's arm, and placed it into her space for testing.
Hua Feixue watched as the syringe in Ji Yuntang's hand suddenly disappeared. Her mouth fell open in shock.
What kind of divine magic was this—being able to retrieve objects from thin air and make them vanish on the spot?
Sensing Hua Feixue's stunned gaze, Ji Yuntang spoke up, "Don't look at this Princess like I'm some kind of monster. Since I agreed to cooperate with you, I must have my own abilities."
"Haven't you always wondered how this Princess emptied out your Blood Rain Sect's treasury? This is the answer."
