Chapter 54: She Wouldn't Accept It

Aunt Jiang and Sun's dad were childhood sweethearts, and she'd always wanted to marry him. He didn't like her and went and married a woman better than her—fine, whatever. He had a fling with a village woman, Widow Li, back in the countryside, and after returning, he married Aunt Han, who wasn't as good as her. There was no way Aunt Jiang was letting that slide!

Aunt Jiang truly liked him. Even after getting married, she never thought about cheating or having anything to do with Sun's dad. She just wanted Sun's dad to regret his decisions. Over the years, she'd been playing the part of a lovestruck fool, but Sun's dad remained unmoved, which just made Aunt Jiang hate him even more!

Her hatred was tangled up with her obsession with Sun's dad!

Once Sun's dad started showing signs of wavering, all she felt was disgust—greasy, so damn greasy!

Aunt Jiang: "You didn't actually think you had the charm to keep me pining over you, did you? I just wanted to see you squirm like this! Do you remember what you told me back then? You said even if you married your village sweetheart, you wouldn't give me a second look. You piece of trash! Watching you live like crap, watching you start to soften toward me—it feels so damn good!"

Aunt Jiang could really play the long game. She was the living proof of "revenge is a dish best served cold"!

Aunt Jiang: "I see you've caught feelings for me and regret not marrying me. That just makes me even more sick to my stomach. You even thought about cheating. You piece of trash, you piece of trash!"

Saying all that felt so damn good to Aunt Jiang. She slapped Sun's dad over and over, and after a dozen or so, she grabbed his head and slammed it into the wall. "Watching you live like this, watching your son be useless in bed, watching your household turn into a circus because of Zhao Lan—I'm loving it, absolutely loving it! You didn't actually think my husband and I had problems, did you? We're rock solid!"

Sun's dad: "Let go of me! Let go!"

Aunt Jiang laughed, thoroughly pleased. "Shut your mouth, you piece of trash!"

After beating Sun's dad, Aunt Jiang ripped at her own clothes and screamed, "What are you doing, what are you trying to do! I know your wife's not home, but that doesn't give you the right to harass me! Somebody help!"

Aunt Jiang: "I was just helping out around your place since your wife went back home, and you think I've got feelings for you? We were childhood sweethearts, but that was decades ago. We're nothing to each other now! Your son doesn't take after you, does he?"

Aunt Jiang woke up everyone in the compound. Nobody was mad about it—they all wanted the tea!

Zhao Lan and Sun Zhi came out too, and for once, the two of them were on the same side.

Zhao Lan: "Aunt Jiang, what the hell are you talking about?!"

Aunt Jiang: "What nonsense? What are you even talking about? Where did I say anything wrong? Your father called me over, and I thought he wanted to talk about something. Then he suddenly started ripping at my clothes. Oh my God, what does he think he's doing! Does he think I still have a soft spot for him from back in the day and he can just do whatever he wants? You piece of trash!"

Aunt Jiang, happy with how the beating went, threw in a few more slaps for good measure!

This was exactly why Sun's dad never wanted to be with Aunt Jiang—she was too strong, and he didn't dare risk it!

Aunt Jiang was young and decent-looking. Sun's dad kept telling himself to stay rational. No matter how much Aunt Jiang flirted or teased him, he wouldn't budge. If he'd actually married Aunt Jiang, what would happen when they fought and she started beating on him?

What made it even worse for Sun's dad was that Aunt Jiang was right. Because of all those years of her playing nice and checking in on him, he'd just started feeling regret and second-guessing his choices, thinking how much better his life would've been if he'd married her. His face turned red with rage. Who the hell would've guessed Aunt Jiang could hold it in that long?!

Sun's dad: "I like you? It's you who likes me! Everyone in this compound knows it. She's been cooking for Sun Zhi, letting us borrow her bike, and trying to smooth things over in our house. How is that not liking me?"

Aunt Jiang: "I help out, and you take that as me liking you? What the hell is there to like about you? My husband's taller and better-looking than you. Why the hell would I pick you over him? Everyone, come be the judge of this! I help, and he mistakes it for affection, and then he tries to—I can't even say it! You piece of trash, how can you be so shameless!"

Sun Zhi: "Auntie, you know damn well whether you like my dad or not."

Aunt Jiang: "You two, father and son, are going too far! Are you picking on me because I'm alone here, my husband's away, and my kids aren't around?"

Aunt Jiang slapped Sun's dad again. Sun Zhi stepped in to stop her, and she slapped him too—then slapped him again for good measure. Zhao Lan didn't dare go near them. She squeezed in behind the crowd, shielding her belly—the baby came first now.

Aunt Jiang: "You piece of trash! Were you waiting for my husband to leave so you could come after me? Any of you with wives or daughters at home, stay away from the Sun family! Don't give them any excuse to get the wrong idea!"

Before Sun Zhi could get a word out, Aunt Jiang slapped him again, hard enough to knock him to the ground.

Sun's dad: "This is all fake, all fake! She likes me, she hates that I married someone else, so she planned all this!"

Aunt Jiang: "What are you talking about? You married someone else over twenty years ago. You're saying I schemed for over twenty years just for this?"

Those who had doubted Aunt Jiang now truly believed her after Sun's dad said that!

"He's been married for over twenty years. You're saying Aunt Jiang schemed for over twenty years just to set this up?"

    "That excuse is too flimsy!"

"Aunt Jiang's husband is better than him and earns more. Aunt Jiang's life after marriage has been great. Aunt Han's life after marriage can't compare to Aunt Jiang's."

Aunt Jiang kicked both father and son, then pointed at them and said, "You two wait for me!"

Aunt Jiang walked over to Zhao Lan. Zhao Lan's legs went weak, and she didn't dare speak, shrinking behind others, afraid Aunt Jiang might slap her next. She was pregnant after all!

Aunt Jiang: "Oh dear, how did you end up marrying into the Sun family!"

Zhao Lan also felt wronged. Yes, how did she end up marrying into the Sun family!

Aunt Jiang: "Your husband has someone else in his heart, your mother-in-law is harsh, and your father-in-law is like this. Living with them in the future, you'll suffer so much!"

Zhao Lan said nothing. Aunt Jiang did brilliantly today—everyone knew the Sun family was bad, and in the future, whatever Zhao Lan did in that family, everyone would understand, right? Luckily, she was afraid of Aunt Jiang's strength and didn't rush forward!

Zhao Lan continued playing her pitiful young wife role.

Sun Zhi shouted, "What are you standing there for!"

Aunt Jiang: "So all this time they've been putting on an act, just because you're pregnant! It's fine. Didn't they say if you divorce, the child goes to you? If they dare treat you like this, take the child and go back to your mother's house. You can come to me too—I'll help you!"

    Zhao Lan: "Auntie!"

Aunt Jiang: "We're all women. I know it's not easy for you!"

Lu Yun and Lu's dad returned home. Lu's mom was still anxious—she'd gone out for the drama and didn't know where the father-daughter pair had gone.

    Lu's mom: "What happened?"

Aunt Jiang is a ruthless one!

Lu Yun: "You know what? Sun's dad wasn't lying. Aunt Jiang really schemed for over twenty years, just for today!"

After Lu's mom learned the truth, her expression was no different from Lu's dad's and Lu Yun's!

    Aunt Jiang is truly ruthless!

Lu Yun had thought Aunt Jiang in their compound only knew how to stir up trouble. She never expected her to be a patient schemer, incredibly tolerant, and extremely vengeful!

It also showed how unwilling Aunt Jiang had been back then!

Aunt Jiang was in high spirits, too excited to sleep. She'd finally taken revenge on that piece of trash, and from now on, she wouldn't have to pretend when she saw him!

From now on, every time she saw Sun's dad in the compound, she'd mock him. Back when he married Aunt Han, some people deliberately taunted Aunt Jiang in front of her!

Aunt Jiang would continue, and those people would also face revenge. The reason she hadn't done anything to them all these years was that she had an order to her revenge!

Aunt Jiang: "How could I have liked him back then? So greasy, so disgustingly greasy!"

Thinking about it, her husband was truly good!

Not working that morning, Lu Yun slacked off and shared the gossip with Chen Qiao, who was stunned.

Chen Qiao: "What a hardcore piece of work!"

Chen Qiao: "I've met Aunt Jiang from your compound. I figured she was just a troublemaker, but I didn't expect she had this kind of scheme. Do you think she stirs the pot daily for this revenge plan, or does she just get off on it?"

Lu Yun: "The revenge plan's one thing, and liking to stir the pot's another, right? She doesn't just mess with the Sun family; she messes with everyone! Yesterday she worked on Zhao Lan and even got her on board. If the Sun family has another conflict next time, Zhao Lan will definitely go to Aunt Jiang!"

Chen Qiao: "If Zhao Lan goes to Aunt Jiang, the Sun family's gonna be a circus!"

Lu Yun: "Oh, it's gonna be a real circus!"

At noon, the two went to the cafeteria together. It wasn't until Lu Yun got to the cafeteria that she remembered Sister He hadn't shown up for work today. She asked Chen Qiao, "Did Sister He not come to work today?"

Chen Qiao: "Sister He took the day off for her son's wedding. Apparently, there's a fight over the bride price!"

Lu Yun: "A fight over the bride price?"

Chen Qiao: "I don't know the whole story. I'll ask Sister He when she's back tomorrow. I arrived early today, and Sister He came by to ask for leave, just said her daughter-in-law was raising hell over the bride price."

At noon, the cafeteria had tomato scrambled eggs, which Lu Yun loved. Tomato scrambled eggs over white rice was the best—tangy and sweet. Lu Yun couldn't help but go grab another scoop of rice after she finished.

Chen Qiao also liked it, and seeing Lu Yun get more rice, she did the same.

The two chatted while eating. Chen Qiao tugged at Lu Yun's clothes and pointed ahead. Lu Yun looked over and only then remembered who it was—Li Pandi.

Lu Yun hadn't run into Li Pandi in a long time.

They hadn't run into each other since Li Pandi went to Sister He to pitch a partnership. She didn't expect to see her at the cafeteria today.
