Chapter 69 Stocks
by 桃花引01Chapter 69: Stocks
Lu Yun was busy at the shop, overheard some ladies who came to buy clothes talking about stocks. Lu Yun didn't pay it much mind—she didn't know much about stocks anyway.
Lu Yun got wind of stocks again from Sun Chun.
After work, Sun Chun mentioned to Zhou Jun that she wanted to buy stocks. They passed by Lu Yun's shop, with Chen Shu trailing behind them.
Sun Chun and Zhou Jun stopped talking, too put off by Chen Shu's presence.
Lu Yun saw the excitement on Chen Shu's face, and it suddenly all clicked!
Last time Chen Shu kept following Zhou Jun, it might've been for stamps. This time she kept following Sun Chun—it had to be for stocks. She wanted to know what stocks Sun Chun was buying so she could copy her and buy the same ones!
Lu Yun was now what you'd call nouveau riche. Buying a few stocks was no big deal for her. The next day, Lu Yun went to buy stocks. She didn't know which ones to pick, so she bought a bunch of different kinds.
Chen Shu started to doubt the plot. Why hadn't Sun Chun gone and bought stocks yet? She tossed and turned all night, unable to sleep.
The answer came the very next day. Chen Shu saw Zhou Jun and Sun Chun shopping for vegetables together. The two of them were haggling over the high prices. Chen Shu suddenly got it—it was because she'd messed up the plot! Chen Shu had only been able to buy stocks after getting her paycheck, but lately she'd almost stopped going to work. No work meant no money, and no money meant no stocks to buy. The plot had already gone off the rails!
Chen Shu: "How could this happen? How could this happen?!"
She knew the novel's plot, yet she'd gotten nothing out of it!
Sun Chun: "She's following us again!"
Zhou Jun: "I'll go have a word with her."
Sun Chun didn't want Zhou Jun talking to Chen Shu. The Zhou family had never approved of their relationship, and things between her and Zhou Jun were getting more delicate. Zhou Jun no longer doted on her like he used to. Sun Chun was panicking—and Chen Shu had had a thing for Zhou Jun before! Deep down, Sun Chun didn't want Zhou Jun to talk to Chen Shu at all.
Zhou Jun was insistent. He pulled Chen Shu aside.
Chen Shu: "Don't think anything you say to me will stop me from pursuing Sun Chun. A man like you—how could you ever deserve Sun Chun!"
Zhou Jun: "Don't think I'll buy your high-sounding words! You just want to wreck my relationship with Sun Chun. You don't even like Sun Chun. I never thought you'd like me so much that you'd own up to liking a woman!"
Chen Shu: "It's because Sun Chun is too amazing. If Sun Chun weren't so amazing, how could you like her this much!"
Zhou Jun's eyes darted away. Liking Sun Chun—now he was even doubting himself!
Zhou Jun: "Chen Shu, if you keep following me, I'm calling the cops!"
Chen Shu: "It's not like I've never been to the police station before."
Sun Chun saw the two talking for too long and hurried over to drag Zhou Jun back. Zhou Jun didn't push to keep talking to Chen Shu. He wasn't so sure anymore—sure that Chen Shu really liked him. If Chen Shu really did like Sun Chun, Zhou Jun would have a problem with both of them.
After buying the stocks, Lu Yun forgot all about them. It wasn't until she ran into Chen Shu that she remembered, and after hearing that a lot of people had made money off stocks, Lu Yun finally went to check on hers.
Lu Yun had hit the jackpot!!!
Every single stock Lu Yun bought had turned a profit. Even though she could now be called nouveau riche, she was still blown away by the numbers!
Lu Yun went home, locked all the doors and windows, took a deep breath, and then told her parents. Her parents nearly fainted.
Lu Father: "Stocks can make this much money?!"
Lu Yun: "I don't know—I just bought a few at random. I never expected them all to make money!"
To celebrate, the Lu family had hotpot again and invited Lu Cheng over. But they didn't tell Lu Cheng why. Lu Father and Lu Mother were being wary of him—that man was a hopeless romantic, and they didn't want him getting any ideas. Not that they didn't trust him or anything, of course.
The compound was buzzing again. Someone came back from Red Flag Commune, saying Zhao Lan had given birth—to a boy.
Aunt Han heard that Zhao Lan had had the baby, and it was a boy. She immediately dragged Sun Zhi and Sun Father off to Red Flag Brigade to see their grandson!
Widow Li: "Going to see the grandson? They don't actually think Zhao Lan was just throwing a fit, do they? Zhao Lan really wants a divorce this time around. Even if she didn't want a divorce, they'd ignored her completely. Now that she's had a son, they want to go see their grandson? Won't the Zhao family throw them out? If I were the Zhao family, dousing them with a basin of water would be the polite option!"
Aunt Jiang: "Exactly, exactly! Their family's behavior is just plain immoral! Zhao Lan should divorce him. Finding another man would be better than Sun Zhi, don't you think?"
Aunt Jiang smiled. Widow Li ignored her, but Aunt Jiang kept smiling—she was genuinely scared of that woman!
Aunt Jiang was dying to get the tea. When no one was looking, she hopped on her bike and rode off.
Aunt Jiang came back right after the Sun family. As soon as she got back to the compound, Aunt Han stormed out and yelled at her: "You love watching drama so much, why don't you go become an actress!"
Aunt Jiang was scared of Widow Li, but she sure wasn't scared of Aunt Han. She said, "I was worried the Zhao family might bully you guys, so I went to help!"
Aunt Han: "You went to help? Who'd believe that? You just wanted to watch our Sun family make fools of ourselves!"
A bunch of people came out of the compound, and others stayed inside listening to Aunt Jiang and Aunt Han go at it.
Sun Zhi punched the wall. "That's enough!"
Lu Yun was fed up with the Sun family. Their family was pretty well-off, but they'd ended up like this—you couldn't blame it all on Sun Zhi. Aunt Han and Sun Father both had their issues, especially Sun Father, who'd pissed off two ruthless people!
After the Sun family went inside, everyone quietly crowded around Aunt Jiang to find out what went down.
Aunt Jiang: "The second the Sun family showed up at the Zhao house, the Zhao family threw water on them and chased them off. They didn't even get a glimpse of their grandson. The Zhao family all cursed them out, saying Zhao Lan would definitely divorce him! Zhao Lan's younger brother also came back. He wasn't the one who married into another family—the family he married into is really powerful. They all came to back Zhao Lan up and even swore they'd find her a good man!"
Han Gang: "Why does the Sun family have to put themselves through all this."
Early the next morning, Lu Yun headed to work. She greeted Chen Qiao at the office, sat down, and took a few sips of the soy milk Chen Qiao had brought for her. Chen Qiao had recently found a stall selling super fragrant soy milk while setting up her own stall. She'd gone out of her way this morning to grab some for Lu Yun—and grabbed some for herself too, of course.
Chen Qiao: "How's it taste?"
Lu Yun: "Delicious. Really, really delicious."
Lu Yun met up with Zhou Yanze. He was getting clingier by the day, like he wanted his eyes glued to her 24/7.
Lu Yun: "You're only gonna look at me?"
Zhou Yanze: "Mm-hmm!"
Ever since Lu Yun went on that buying trip, Zhou Yanze had been acting like a lovesick puppy. Now he didn't even bother to hide it.
Lu Yun filled Zhou Yanze in on the drama in the compound. "It's hard to say who's right and who's wrong. Zhao Lan married Sun Zhi in the first place because he was a city guy. And she was the one who wanted to divorce Sun Zhi to marry that nouveau riche guy. The Sun family was also bullying Zhao Lan, trying to keep her in line."
Zhou Yanze: "You won't have these worries. They wouldn't dare mess with me, let alone you."
Lu Yun: "And you?"
Zhou Yanze: "I'll do whatever you say, of course!"
Zhou Yanze didn't want to just let things play out naturally anymore. He figured he should take the initiative—and once he did, Lu Yun would naturally want to marry him.
Zhou Yanze: "So when are we getting married?"
Lu Yun wanted to say "let's talk about it later," but seeing Zhou Yanze's face turn red, she lowered her head and smiled.
Lu Yun: "When I decide I want to marry you, I'll marry you."
Zhou Yanze: "Then when do you want to marry me?"
Lu Yun: "When I want to marry you."
Zhou Yanze: "That's adorable."
The two of them went out to eat, and while talking about stocks, Lu Yun learned that Zhou Yanze had also bought stocks—and quite a lot of them.
Lu Yun: "I thought that after buying stocks, maybe I could become as wealthy as you. But it seems I'm still not as rich as you. I've got to keep pushing!"
Chen Shu happened to be eating at the same restaurant. Neither Sun Chun nor Zhou Jun had bought stocks. Chen Shu had bought a few stocks on a whim and made a little money—not a huge amount, but enough to get her excited. When she heard Lu Yun had also bought stocks—and ones that were especially profitable—Chen Shu ran over to Lu Yun and asked, "You bought stocks? How could you do that!"
Zhou Yanze: "What do you think you're doing?!"
Chen Shu nearly fainted when she saw Zhou Yanze. Isn't this Zhou Jun's uncle? Why were the two of them together?
Chen Shu: "Who are you? What's your relationship? Why are you two eating together here!"
Lu Yun: "He's my boyfriend."
Chen Shu: "What did you say? He's your boyfriend? He's really your boyfriend!"
Chen Shu was so shocked she couldn't keep questioning Lu Yun. She stumbled out of the restaurant, dazed.
Zhou Yanze asked, "Do you know her?"
Lu Yun: "She's my cousin."
Zhou Yanze immediately said, "Jiang Xiangqian's girlfriend! Or rather, his fiancée!"
Lu Yun: "No need to stress that. They already called off the engagement."
Zhou Yanze: "It's definitely worth emphasizing!"
Lu Yun said, "Even if Chen Shu didn't end up with Jiang Xiangqian, I still wouldn't be with him. He's not my type."
Zhou Yanze immediately asked, "What about me?"
Lu Yun smiled and said, "How about we go on a blind date, then?"
This was also what Lu Yun had said the first time she met Zhou Yanze. If she didn't like him, why would she have been the one to suggest a blind date?
Zhou Yanze walked Lu Yun home and insisted, "Are you willing to marry me now?"
Lu Yun: "You're not planning to ask me this every time from now on, are you?"
Zhou Yanze: "I'll probably ask you a lot."
When she got home, her parents could see how happy Lu Yun looked. They were relieved to see Lu Yun and Zhou Yanze getting along so well. But then they thought of Lu Cheng, and worry crept back in.
Lu Yun received a message from Zhou Yanze on her pager.
Zhou Yanze said that if Lu Yun wouldn't marry him, he'd be willing to marry into her family instead.
This man—he really knew how to please her!
Though there was no need for him to marry into her family.
Marry Zhou Yanze?
Lu Yun thought marrying him would be great.
