Meanwhile.
Su Zhiyu followed Yang Yichen to the theater. The two had just settled into seats in the corner when someone else came over to greet them.
"Hey, what a coincidence—didn't expect to run into you two here!" A man in a mask and cap sat down next to Su Zhiyu.
Yang Yichen immediately pulled Su Zhiyu closer to him, asking warily, "Who are you?"
Su Zhiyu was the first to recognize the voice, quietly reminding Yang Yichen, "I think it's Ji Yucheng."
Ji Yucheng?
Wow, of all places, they ran into him here. Was Liu Mian's play really that popular?
Ji Yucheng held out his hand. "I'm Ji Yucheng, here to watch the play too. What a coincidence, sitting next to you guys. Wanna grab a bite later?"
"..."
Su Zhiyu instinctively wanted to say no—he didn't have a good impression of this guy. Yang Yichen, however, had no idea about any of the underlying complications. Seeing it was a familiar face who was so enthusiastic, he simply waved his hand magnanimously. "No problem! We're grabbing food after this anyway. We're hitting up a skewer place—wanna come?"
Su Zhiyu: ?
Ji Yucheng nodded happily. "Sure, I'm on my own anyway, so I'll tag along with you guys."
"No problem, no problem."
Yang Yichen and Ji Yucheng naturally fell into conversation, leaving Su Zhiyu stuck in the middle, feeling uneasy—especially since Ji Yucheng kept occasionally throwing comments his way.
Su Zhiyu quietly tugged at Yang Yichen, about to ask him to swap seats, when Ji Yucheng spoke up. "Why didn't Qin Yan come?"
At the mention of Qin Yan, Su Zhiyu's request to switch seats died on his lips, and he swallowed it back down.
Yang Yichen waved his hand. "Ah, he's busy with company stuff. He'll join us for dinner later—one meal and everyone'll get familiar."
"True." Ji Yucheng glanced at Su Zhiyu, a smile tugging at his lips. "Are Zhi Yu and Qin Yan close?"
Yang Yichen didn't rush to answer this one. He also looked at Su Zhiyu, wanting to hear the answer straight from him to gauge how far things had progressed between Qin Yan and Su Zhiyu.
Su Zhiyu was silent for a moment, then nodded. "Mm."
He added in a low voice, "Very close."
Ji Yucheng's expression barely changed, but his smile deepened. "That's nice. Qin Yan's a really interesting guy—I asked him to dinner and he turned me down. Since you're close with him, could you put in a good word for me?"
"..."
Su Zhiyu stayed quiet, silently holding his drink.
Ji Yucheng didn't seem bothered by the awkwardness and changed the subject. "By the way, your next episode is sports-themed. Zhi Yu, can you swim? I won a swimming award before—want me to teach you?"
"No need."
Su Zhiyu refused without hesitation.
He's trying to use him to get close to Qin Yan?
Ji Yucheng froze. He was always incredibly popular—especially with Omegas, who were usually all over him. Being personally taught to swim by him was something countless Omegas would've jumped at.
He never expected to have zero appeal to Su Zhiyu, getting shot down so bluntly!
Yang Yichen also sensed the weird tension between the two. He laughed and tried to smooth things over. "Swimming's a bit of a private thing, you know? It's not really appropriate for us Alphas to teach Zhi Yu."
Ji Yucheng thought about it—fair point.
It showed that Su Zhiyu was someone who valued boundaries and personal space. And from what he'd seen so far, that was definitely the case. He really was a special, different kind of Omega.
Ji Yucheng's gaze toward him held a hint of appreciation. He followed up, "Then do you have someone in mind to teach you? I know a few Omegas who are great swimmers—want me to get them to teach you?"
Su Zhiyu took a shallow breath. Sure enough, this guy was really trying every angle to get close to Qin Yan.
"No need."
"Then—"
"I already have someone to teach me." Su Zhiyu said calmly. "Qin Yan can teach me. He's a great swimmer too."
Ji Yucheng: ?
Yang Yichen: ?
The air went quiet for a moment. Ji Yucheng asked, sounding doubtful, "Isn't Qin Yan... an Alpha? Isn't it a bit inappropriate for him to teach you?"
Su Zhiyu's expression didn't change. "He's different."
"Huh?"
Yang Yichen's eyes went wide, his nails nearly digging into his palm. Excitedly, he pulled out his phone, turned around, and secretly messaged Qin Yan:
"Bro Yan, Bro Yan, this is huge! You've been secretly teaching Zhi Yu to swim?! Spill it—are you taking advantage during the lessons?"
"You're outrageous! So scheming! You've won his heart and didn't even say a word?"
"No wonder you dared to threaten me today—so you've already made progress?"
"Ji Yucheng's coming tonight too. Ran into him at the theater. He's pretty easygoing, but your precious one has too strong a sense of boundaries—it was so awkward lol."
"You're paying for dinner tonight."
After sending several messages in a row with no reply, Yang Yichen turned back around to keep chatting with the other two.
Three seats, but only two people were talking.
Unless Qin Yan was mentioned, Su Zhiyu stayed silent. Otherwise, he was quiet the whole time—even more so once the play officially started.
Suddenly, Ji Yucheng held out his phone and whispered, "Can I add you on WeChat?"
Su Zhiyu kept his composure. "Sorry, I don't use WeChat."
"?"
Ji Yucheng felt like he'd been having the worst luck lately. Whoever he tried to add wouldn't accept, as if adding him as a friend would bring bad luck.
"Alright."
He silently put his phone back in his pocket and focused on the play.
At that moment.
Gossip about Su Zhiyu's love life and the ensuing drama was starting to brew.
When the play ended.
Liu Mian came out and saw Ji Yucheng was also there. A flicker of surprise crossed his eyes before he settled back into his usual calm. He glanced at Su Zhiyu and asked, "Hungry? What do you want to eat later? Let's all grab a table together."
"Anything works, we'll figure it out when we get there."
"Okay."
Su Zhiyu could tell Liu Mian was looking out for him—not as a former captain looking after his player, but as a genuine friend.
Yang Yichen chimed in: "So that's how you're splitting us up?"
Liu Mian smiled: "You Alphas stick together, we Omegas stick together. Works out perfectly. By the way, Ji, did you drive?"
Ji Yucheng shook his head: "No, I'll go with you guys and have my assistant pick me up later. No need for the formalities—just call me Ji."
"Alright."
Just as the four of them were about to head out, Yang Yichen's phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID and stepped away to answer.
"Yan-ge, what's up? Should we just meet at the restaurant?"
"Wait, I'm coming over first."
"What?" Yang Yichen glanced back at the three waiting over there and said, "You're coming to the theater? We're about to head out."
"Quit yapping, I'll be there in about ten minutes."
"Hey..."
He hung up.
Qin Yan frowned, staring at the messages on his phone. His brow knitted in fury as he slammed his foot on the gas pedal.
Damn it, Ji Yucheng dared to make a move on him while he was gone?!
