Chapter 2: Don't Assume That Piteous Act Will Fool Me...

Huo Lanjing cast a casual glance at Luo Le but didn't respond. He continued walking inside.

Captain Lin gazed at their departing figures, let out a sigh, and then headed off in another direction.

From the military compound gate to his residence, Huo Lanjing didn't utter a single word to Luo Le.

Luo Le paid no heed to the remark, instead surveying the place where he had spent the past three months, as if trying to piece together a picture of the Huo Lanjing he had missed from the traces of life left behind.

As he walked, he muttered to himself about his own affairs.

"Honey, you won't believe it, but on my way here, I encountered a meteor shower. It was incredibly thrilling, and I even crash-landed on a planet. The air there was terribly unsuitable, devoid of anything. But fortunately, their military came to my rescue..."

Huo Lanjing cast his gaze downward, immediately beholding the youth's eyes sparkling and blinking, his lips parting and closing in animated discourse.

He was originally bound for the Seventh Planet, but Luo Le's mentor sent word, informing him that they were already on their way to meet him.

This teacher was Huo Lanjing's former mentor, and out of respect for his benefactor, he had decided to stay.

It was unforeseen that Luo Le would be so late.

He had traveled the route from the Empire to the Fifth Planet countless times throughout his years of warfare.

    A stellar storm was unprecedented.

Perhaps the young master had wandered off somewhere for fun and was merely concocting an excuse to avoid scolding.

At this thought, Huo Lanjing's expression darkened.

"What brings you here?" he asked, his tone tinged with displeasure.

Luo Le involuntarily tightened his grip on Huo Lanjing's arm.

Huo Lanjing's demeanor remained as cold as ever.

After a moment, Luo Le lifted his head, his face wearing an air of grievance as he pointed at the bandage on his hand, showing it to Huo Lanjing.

"What's the matter? Can't you see the injuries on me? You're not even concerned."

Huo Lanjing glanced casually at the bandages. In this age, there were AS-IC treatment pods, and even the inferior BB-C pods could suffice.

As long as one's brain functioned, complete recovery was possible.

There was no need for such rudimentary items like bandages.

Still, Huo Lanjing held onto his hand.

Luo Le was taken aback, lowering his gaze to see Huo Lanjing in his deep blue military uniform leaning over, examining his hand with a serious expression.

Huo Lanjing's warmth transmitted through their wrists, causing Luo Le's heart to race.

Suddenly, the grip on his hand tightened, making Luo Le groan in pain.

    "What are you doing?"

At that moment, Huo Lanjing tossed him a card.

    "What's this?"

"Starnova Card. What on earth are you here for?"

Seeing that Huo Lanjing didn't explain the Starnova Card, Luo Le refrained from pressing further, afraid of provoking him.

Luo Le pursed her lips and turned her face away from him.

"Can't I just come to visit my husband? How long has it been since you last came home? I'm almost forgetting what you look like."

Huo Lanjing had initially assumed that she was there on important business. He hadn't expected it to be for such a reason.

He had forgotten that Luo Le had always been such a willful person.

Perhaps this was another one of her impulsive whims.

Huo Lanjing straightened his clothes, which Luo Le had mussed up, and gazed at her. "Well, you've seen me now. When are you leaving?"

Looking at his demeanor, anger welled up within Luo Le.

Fortunately, reason held him back before the outburst could occur.

If he had lost control, Huo Lanjing would undoubtedly have expelled him.

    That was not an option.

With a softened tone, he pleaded, "Husband, we haven't seen each other in so long. Can't I stay for a few more days?"

Luo Le's neck and hands were wrapped in bandages, his complexion somewhat pale.

In ancient Earth, Huo Lanjing might have believed that he was genuinely injured.

"Luo Le, are you done with your act? If you're finished, leave."

Luo Le's heart faltered, and the smile on his lips finally wavered.

His spirits plunged to rock bottom, and his wounds throbbed subtly.

Lowering his gaze, he inadvertently caught sight of the bandages on his body. Luo Le finally recalled that such medical supplies had long been abandoned.

Recalling Huo Lanjing's previous actions, Luo Le understood his intentions.

He carelessly ripped open the bandage on his left hand with force.

However, it was wrapped too tightly, and he could only manage to tear a small gap.

Due to the exertion, the wound started bleeding again, seeping faintly through the bandages.

Luo Le held out his hand as if presenting evidence, looking at him with a puppy-like expression.

Seeing this, Huo Lanjing paused. He hadn't expected Luo Le to actually be injured.

But upon catching sight of the bright red liquid, an inexplicable anger surged in his chest.

His tone turned even colder. "Luo Le, don't think that by pretending to be pitiful, I'll take you back to the Empire. It's impossible."

Upon hearing these words, Luo Le's heart twinged with pain.

Of course he knew that was impossible.

Previously, there was an incident where he had won against Young Master Lin in a competition and incurred his wrath.

On his way back home, he was involved in a car accident orchestrated by the young master.

He fractured two ribs and slipped into a three-day coma.

Upon awakening, he confided in Huo Lanjing about the incident, subtly hinting for him to return home.

Yet, Huo Lanjing merely responded with a calm acknowledgment before getting back to his busy schedule.
