Chapter 11
byChapter 11
The two brothers in the front seat were too panicked by Shuo Zong's words to notice what was happening behind them.
As dawn approached, the car finally entered the city. Wei Xi had lost interest in biting people and released the sun-filled arm. He leaned against the window, his eyes glued to the scene outside, every hair on his body standing on end.
Where... where is this place? !
How can there be buildings taller than mountains?
And roads floating in mid-air?
Endless roads, like interwoven threads, densely covered every visible area. At that moment, he finally understood why Lu Wenqing said Fengyang was a small place. Compared to this, Fengyang was indeed insignificant, like a tiny grain of sand in an endless sea!
The wildlife here was also unprecedentedly numerous, with all sorts of sizes and colors gathered on the roads. Each of their glowing red eyes in the back seemed fierce, yet they moved slowly, as if engaged in a standoff with their peers, neither willing to budge for a long while.
A vast expanse of red lay ahead, and occasional deep roars could be faintly heard, as if a battle was about to erupt. They seemed ready to pounce on each other at any moment.
Joining such a conflict, Wei Xi didn't dare to estimate his chances of victory if a fight broke out. But Lu Wenqing in the front seat was completely unfazed, tapping irritably on the steering wheel while muttering curses, "Damn, traffic jams every day! From the highway entrance to the fourth ring road, and it's still so early! Will it ever get better? !"
Next to him, Li Rui chuckled. "Isn't it like this every day in Beijing? After staying here for over two decades, you still aren't used to it?"
Over two decades of constant strife? !
Wei Xi was startled once more. However, seeing how calm they were, he relaxed slightly. At that moment, a long groan suddenly echoed from inside the car.
He immediately turned back and indeed saw Tuanjie Yi sitting up from the trunk, clutching his head as he looked around dazedly. "Where am I?"
The sky was just beginning to brighten, and the car lights outside illuminated his face, making Tuanjie Yi appear as if he was still in a dream. In front of him, Lu Wenqing glanced back. "Dude, if you tell me where we are, look at the traffic jam outside. It's definitely Beijing."
Tuanjie Yi: "...?"
Tuanjie Yi froze. "What?"
Tuanjie Yi was bewildered. "Wait a minute."
Tuanjie Yi shook his head. "No."
Tuanjie Yi was on the verge of collapse. "What Beijing? Aren't I in Fengyang? How did I end up in Beijing?!"
Wei Xi gave him a glance, completely unsympathetic to his panic. "Of course I brought you here."
Tuan Jieyi tugged at his hair in astonishment. "Why did you bring me to Beijing?"
Wei Xi's expression was one of a traditional, authoritarian figurehead. "You're my disciple. Naturally, I'd bring you wherever I go."
Tuan Jieyi: "..........................."
What a logically sound argument.
It was only now that he belatedly recalled the reason for his fainting. Gazing at Wei Xi's face, he felt a wave of dizziness and disbelief that a routine robbery could have escalated into this situation.
Mustering all his courage, he thought of the image of Wei Xi effortlessly tearing off the female ghost's arm. In the end, he didn't dare resist and could only cling helplessly to his burly self, curling up in the corner of the SUV's trunk.
Staring at the ceiling of the car, Tuan Jieyi wept for his life—
Just what kind of bizarre individual had he gotten himself entangled with!
The car crawled along until dawn, finally reaching the second ring road. Before arriving, Lu Wenqing had obtained the Wei family's phone number from a friend and given them a heads-up.
Yet, when he arrived at the Wei family's villa, the owner was nowhere to be seen. The Wei family's courtyard was eerily quiet, with a male butler and two nannies approaching to open the gate for them.
The butler apologized, "Sir Wei went to attend an exhibition on the eleventh, and Madam had traveled to Northern Europe before that. Young Master Wei went out partying with friends last night. Everyone is away, so we've been remiss in our hospitality."
Upon hearing this, Lu Wenqing and Li Rui looked at Wei Xi with sympathy. Although they knew he didn't hold much status in his family, it still seemed a little too indifferent that after three months of absence, his family could still go out and have fun as if nothing had happened.
Wei Xi, however, showed no such feelings. He was busy observing the arrangements in the yard. The buildings in this area were generally less grand than the high-rise apartments he had seen along the way. The unlucky fellow's home wasn't as large as he had imagined, just a two or three-story house with a yard that couldn't possibly exceed three acres. This small piece of land was sparsely decorated, without dense woods, exotic plants, or even a lush lawn. There was only a large pit dug near the house wall, filled with water that shimmered under the sunlight.
Wei Xi knew from before that some sophisticated wealthy families outside the mountains liked to dig lakes in their courtyards to raise koi fish. In larger ones, one could occasionally row a boat or fish. But how could one boat in such a tiny lake? It was barely enough to accommodate a pavilion in the middle, let alone a boat. It seemed more like a pretense of having a lake.
Nonetheless, the feng shui seemed quite good. He shook his head sympathetically, thinking that the unlucky fellow's family only possessed modest assets. It seemed unlikely they would have a feast here.
Suddenly, barking echoed through the air. Everyone turned to see a Husky standing on the steps at the entrance, unleashed, baring its teeth and growling fiercely at the exiting Wei Xi, its face contorted with aggression.
The dog was majestic, with a massive build, an upright posture, and a proud tail held high. Its light-colored eyes were sharp and unyielding.
"Damn!" Lu Wenqing jumped in surprise, assuming that the dog had been startled by their group of strangers. Surprisingly, the butler looked apologetic again. "My apologies, my apologies. This is Young Master Wei's dog. For some reason, it has always barked at Eldest Young Master since it was young. I'm sorry for the scare."
Lu Wenqing was taken aback, immediately turning to look at Wei Xi. Seeing him staring intently at the large dog with dark, enigmatic eyes, Lu Wenqing felt a sudden pang of discomfort for some unknown reason.
Indeed, the saying "a dog's loyalty lies with its master" couldn't be more accurate. Animals were probably the best at distinguishing family hierarchy. What kind of life did Wei Xi lead that even his younger brother's dog didn't take him seriously? How devastated must he be now? Was it really the right decision to send him back?
Filled with concern, Lu Wenqing thought about Wei Xi losing his phone and hastily found a piece of paper from the car to jot down his number, handing it over. "This is my phone number. If anything happens while you're home, you can call me. If I'm not available, you can reach out to my cousin."
Wei Xi's gaze was momentarily diverted from the dog by the gesture, but as he accepted the paper, his eyes returned to the animal, shimmering with interest.
So plump... So big... So much flesh... So beautiful...
The barking suddenly ceased.
The male butler glanced over in confusion and saw their second young master, the little tyrant who was spoiled rotten by the whole family and never took anyone seriously, emitting a strangely whimpering sound. Then, he slowly tucked his tail between his legs and crouched down on the ground.
Upon closer inspection, the butler's face paled drastically—
"Mike! You're not allowed to pee on the doorstep!"
