Chapter 25
byChapter 25
In truth, at this point, the Huang couple had also sensed something amiss. They just didn't want to believe that such close relatives would betray them.
But now, they could only accept reality and nervously asked the group of experts their son had brought home, "M-Masters, can you solve this problem?"
Dealing with ghosts and spirits was simple, right? Wei Xi swept his gaze across the room's tables and chairs, ready to start smashing things. No matter where the ghost was hiding, he would find it after breaking everything.
Shuo Zong thought of Little Fatty's smashed study in the haunted house and wordlessly placed a hand on him to stop him. He looked around but didn't detect any extraordinary evil aura in the room. Frowning, he said, "Our first priority is still to clarify what has happened here."
He then nonchalantly nodded toward Unity Yi, who inwardly grumbled about his junior's audacity to order his senior around. Nevertheless, he turned and went to knock on the neighbor's door.
The neighbor in apartment 701 was home, an auntie in her middle years. When she opened the door and saw them, she became wary. Upon hearing that they were from apartment 702, she immediately tried to close the door.
Unity Yi stuck his foot in the doorway, "Hey, Auntie, there's no need for that. We're neighbors living so close by. You clearly know something but are hiding it. Don't you think that's excessive?"
The auntie panicked and yelled, calling him 'auntie' again and threatening to call the police. Unity Yi's head throbbed from her scolding when he heard his junior's cool voice behind him, "Hello."
The auntie's voice suddenly stopped. She peered out and saw Shuo Zong's face. Then, she glanced at Wei Xi, who was looking at her from behind Shuo Zong, and her cries ceased, "Y-You're also from apartment 702?"
Shuo Zong hummed in response.
The neighbor hesitated for a moment before she grumpily said, "Before in apartment 702, a woman jumped off the building after arguing with her boyfriend. They say she was even pregnant! Didn't you inquire about it before buying the place?"
Tuan Jie Yi retracted his foot. The neighbor, as if avoiding a plague, immediately slammed the door shut, and there was a faint sound of the lock clicking into place.
Tuan Jie Yi looked at his junior brother pitifully. "Why do I have to get reported when I ask, but she tells you when you ask?"
Shuo Zong glanced at Tuan Jie Yi's towering height and muscular build, clearly indicating he wasn't someone to mess with, and ignored him. Turning to Wei Xi, he said, "It must be this house ghost causing trouble."
Feeling aggrieved from being treated differently, Tuan Jie Yi asked Huang Jue, "Do you know who that pregnant woman arguing with her boyfriend was?"
Huang Jue pondered for a moment and then looked at his father. "Dad, I remember Uncle saying he bought this place as an engagement gift for his son..."
His father's innocent, childlike face finally changed. "Your cousin indeed had a girlfriend before. I heard they started dating since high school, but when I asked recently, your uncle said they've already broken up."
The old man couldn't quite accept the reality of being duped by his older brother, and his mood turned gloomy.
Wei Xi, inexperienced in such matters, thought it was simple: as long as it was a ghost, beating it up would solve the problem. But Shuo Zong found something amiss. "That's not right. If the house ghost died because of him, it should have followed him instead. Why would it come back to haunt you?"
But this issue had no straightforward solution.
Huang Jue said that he was generally unbothered during the day, but the problem occurred only when he fell asleep at night. The old lady also mentioned that she discovered the red toilet water during her midnight bathroom visit. Thus, after some discussion, everyone decided to wait until nighttime before taking any action.
As the old neighborhood grew quiet in the evening, the Huang family, still reeling from the shock, lost their appetite for food and drink. Only Wei Xi rummaged through Huang Jue's stash of snacks, sitting on the windowsill of his room and munching on chips.
Not forgetting his disciples, he asked them, "Do you want some?"
Unity Yi gratefully took a chip and turned to look at his junior apprentice brother. He saw his younger brother leaning against the wall of the windowsill with his long legs stretched out, one hand supporting his bent knee as he watched their master silently.
To lure the ghost, they hadn't switched on the lights in the room. As Wei Xi looked up, he could see the reflection of the lamplight in his second disciple's eyes. The contrast between the black and white of those eyes was striking, and the handsome contours of his face were bathed in moonlight, making the scars crisscrossing his neck and arms appear hazy.
Suddenly curious, Wei Xi reached out to touch a five-inch-long scar on the disciple's arm, which seemed to be the mark left by a sharp object. "Lu Que, how did you get these injuries?"
The second disciple glanced at where the teacher's finger touched and fell silent for a moment before answering coolly, "I brought it upon myself."
Wei Xi didn't understand and tried to examine the scar more closely, but his wrist was seized. His disciple's voice was much colder than the warmth in his palm, "Don't look anymore."
Sitting half on the bed, Huang Jue felt a little nervous. Before, he wasn't too afraid, but knowing the truth changed everything. "M-Master, is it really okay? It's a female ghost who jumped from the building. It sounds so terrifying. Can't she harm someone?"
The moment he spoke, his second disciple released his hand. Wei Xi munched on his chips and pondered, "It's better if they lose their lives."
That way, he could devour them directly.
Huang Jue: "...????"
He felt that he hadn't been comforted at all; instead, he was even more terrified.
He pretended to sleep, but suddenly, a cold wind seemed to creep into the room from nowhere, blowing against his head and face. Huang Jue shivered uncontrollably, immediately feeling his limbs stiffen as before.
His hands and feet seemed to lose control. He tried to open his eyes, but his eyelids wouldn't budge, leaving only the sound of his heartbeat growing louder in the endless darkness. Then, a vague black shadow appeared.
It was a woman with long hair, a slender figure, dressed in a white robe, facing away from him.
He heard her soft sobs, tinged with an indescribable coyness and sorrow. As she cried, she asked bitterly, "Why did you treat me like this..."
Damn, is this the legendary woman who jumped off the building?! Huang Jue almost wet himself. But before he could recover, the woman turned around, her face covered in blood, making it impossible to distinguish any features. With a hideous, bloody countenance, she lunged forward and screeched in that thin voice, "You heartless man—"
Huang Jue couldn't move, and he screamed in terror, "Sis, you've got the wrong person, ah ah ah ah!"
Little did he expect that the female ghost's shriek would give him an abrupt surge of strength in his stiff limbs, allowing him to bounce up from the bed.
He immediately scrambled to the corner of the bed, where he cowered with wide eyes. The lights were now on, and the others who had been waiting in the room were all gathered around the bedside. Wei Xi was leading the pack, clutching a human figure in his hand with a clearly displeased expression.
"AHHHHHHH!!!" Huang Jue's bladder trembled in terror as he recognized the figure in Wei Xi's grasp. He yelled at the top of his lungs, "Master! What is that thing?! AHHHHHH!"
The figure in Wei Xi's grip also screamed along with him, "AHHHHHH! Immortal, Immortal!!! Spare me, please, AHHHHHH!"
To everyone's surprise, it was a deep male voice that came out.
Excited from capturing the ghost, Wei Xi had taken a bite before realizing it wasn't edible. Frustrated, he grabbed the little ghost by the neck and slammed it onto the floor. He turned to his second disciple and asked, "Didn't you say it was a female ghost?"
As he spoke, he reached out to tug at the male ghost's pants, eager for clarification.
The male ghost, covering his crotch in panic, appeared fearful of being violated. Seeing his resistance, Wei Xi threw a few punches, leaving the ghost's face swollen and bruised.
Shuo Zong: "...."
Tuanjie Yi: "...."
Huang Jue: "..."
Shuo Zong stopped Wei Xi from pulling down the ghost's pants and seized the weeping male ghost in his hand. He then asked Huang Jue in a deep voice, "Is this what you saw in your dream?"
Wiping his sweat, Huang Jue no longer felt as afraid for some reason. Upon recognizing the ghost's appearance, he nodded repeatedly. "Yes, it's him. He was wearing white clothes with long hair. Just now in my dream, he tried to grab me. Is this the female ghost who jumped off the building?"
Dazed from Wei Xi's blows, the male ghost cowered under Shuo Zong's solemn gaze and cried out, "I'll talk! I'll tell you everything! Please be fair, Immortal! I've never done anything wicked. I usually work as an intermediary to make ends meet. Because of that heartless man's misdeeds, the female ghost hired me to seek revenge!"
Huang Jue: "???"
Tuan Yu Yi exclaimed, "You can even get hired for that? How awesome is your boss that she doesn't come for revenge herself?"
The male ghost explained, "There's nothing I could do about it. She just had a baby and is still breastfeeding. She must be too busy. But she does drop by occasionally when she has time."
Huang Jue: "..."
Could this be why the ghostly figure in his dreams appeared alone at times and in a group of three at others...
After being beaten up and captured by Shuo Zong, the male ghost felt extremely unlucky. Sobbing, he said, "Sob sob sob, if I had known, I wouldn't have taken on this job. It was already difficult, and now I've been injured. I wonder if she'll compensate me."
United Righteousness scolded him, "You're feeling wronged? You scared the family so much that they were beaten up - isn't that what you deserve?"
The male ghost looked at him in disbelief, pointing at his own nose with an expression of great defamation, "Me? Scaring their family to the point of unrest? Do you have any sense of reason! Where is their family's unrest?! I wait for them in the bathroom every night, and their old lady has constipation! When she finishes, it smells terrible, but what do I say? I still work diligently to create trouble! But every time their old lady sees my toilet mess, she doesn't even flinch, just muttering something about roughage and applying hemorrhoid cream right in front of me! What do I say? I don't say anything! I stick notes on the wall every day, and this family peels them off without any reaction! They still eat, sleep, and watch TV, even finding time to argue! Do you know how much budget I have? I buy 'double happiness' stickers every day, each costing ten dollars! In the end, I had to cut them myself! Do you know anything! You know nothing! Talking about unrest, all I did was make this heartless man lose sleep! But he's so immoral, what's wrong with losing sleep!"
United Righteousness: "..."
Upon hearing this heartfelt grievance, United Righteousness was moved to tears. He held back his master, who was about to strike due to being yelled at, "Master, he's not having an easy time either. Please don't hit him."
Huang Jue felt both sympathy and despair, "No, buddy, I'm sorry, but you've got the wrong person! I'm not the heartless man you're talking about!"
"Oh?" The male ghost immediately raised his hand to find a note in his pocket, flipped it open, stretched his neck out the window for a look, then seriously refuted, "Impossible. This is the address. Don't try to fool me!"
Huang Jue almost wet himself again from the extended neck and tearfully explained, "Friend, I just moved in last month. Can't you guys check before causing trouble?"
The male ghost was taken aback, "No way? I came here with the customer last time, and she didn't say anything!"
Huang Jue thought to himself, what kind of catastrophic bad luck had he fallen upon? Shuo Zong coldly said, "Useless to talk more. Call her here."
The male ghost initially felt it was inappropriate, as it violated professional ethics. However, after only a few blows from Wei Xi, he immediately gave in, "I'm wrong, I'm wrong! I'll call! I'll call! Great Immortal, please spare me!"
Sobbing, he tore off a piece of his clothing, folding it into a plump paper crane shadow. With a heavy burden of guilt, he sent it soaring into the air.
Moments later, another cold breeze swept through the darkened room, accompanied by a mournful female voice that drifted slowly, distinct from the cross-dresser's disguised voice. Huang Jue immediately recognized it as a genuine female voice.
The ethereal voice echoed, "Huang Fengxiu... How could you do this to me..."
Suddenly, the lights flickered on, revealing the captured ghost. Huang Jue finally caught a glimpse of her; she was a young, delicate-looking female ghost, cradling a pitch-black ghost infant in her arms.
The ghost infant's eye sockets, devoid of whites, fixated unblinkingly upon him. Its childish face revealed no emotion, neither speaking nor moving, exuding an eerie stillness that permeated the atmosphere.
To be honest, after encountering so many ghosts, this infant was actually the most terrifying. Huang Jue was momentarily stunned with fear, but to his surprise, Wei Xi reached out and snatched the ghost baby away from the female ghost, holding it upside down by its feet and shaking it. "Wow, he's so tiny."
Ghost Baby: "..."
The female ghost, having lost her child, let out a piercing scream as her resentment boiled over. Now realizing what had happened, she glared at Huang Jue with sharp eyes, tears of blood streaming down her cheeks. She struggled fiercely in Shuo Zong's grasp, yelling fiercely, "Huang Fengxiu!!! You heartless beast!!! Killing me wasn't enough for you!!! Now you want someone to exorcise our own son and me?! Are you even human?!"
Shouldering this unexpected burden, Huang Jue couldn't bear it any longer and shouted, "Sister-in-law!!! Can't you see clearly?! I'm not Huang Fengxiu!!! I'm Huang Jue, his cousin!!! He sold the house to me!!!"
The female ghost's shrill scream came to an abrupt halt.
Moments later, she snapped back to reality, narrowing her eyes and stretching her neck to scrutinize Huang Jue's face closely.
Huang Jue was so frightened that he didn't dare to move. Wei Xi was occupied with the ghost infant who wasn't crying or making trouble, while Shuo Zong didn't intervene with the female ghost's actions. Fortunately, after a long examination, the female ghost finally seemed to have recognized him and began to wriggle free from Shuo Zong's grasp.
"Ahh... Why is it you?" The female ghost's face flushed with embarrassment as she avoided his gaze, stammering, "I-I mean, when I jumped off the building, my glasses fell into the flower bed and couldn't be found. I'm nearsighted with over 2000 degrees, so I couldn't see clearly. My apologies. Your sister-in-law didn't mean it; you and your cousin just look too alike. Besides, why didn't you say anything earlier? You're so timid, always screaming whenever you see me! You and your nephew have been busy for nothing!"
As the female ghost spoke, she seemed to realize her justification and started lecturing him as an elder.
Huang Jue: "..."
I'm sorry, I'm sorry, it's all my fault, my fault!
