    Chapter 293: A Tense Encounter

Qi Yingying reached out to pull Bai Xiuxiu.

Wang Qinghe’s movements were quicker than hers, blocking her hand. His brow was furrowed as he looked at her and the two younger brothers he had never met.

"What are you doing?" Qi Yingying didn’t expect her eldest son to stop her like this.

She wasn’t doing anything wrong, was she? Isn’t it normal for a mother to help her daughter-in-law pack?

"We’ll pack ourselves. Let’s go inside and talk first," Wang Qinghe said, hiding his annoyance. They hadn’t informed them in advance, and now that they had shown up, they expected them to leave immediately.

If they didn’t have other plans, they wouldn’t go with them.

Feeling rebuffed, Qi Yingying had no choice but to follow them inside, embarrassed.

He Cheng and He Ming followed behind as well.

Once inside, they were somewhat surprised by where Wang Qinghe and Bai Xiuxiu lived.

They had assumed that living in such a small place, with no one to look after him, his living conditions wouldn’t be good. But it wasn’t bad at all.

He Cheng felt even more bitter. His elder brother, whom he had just met, had a place to live, a wife, children, and both he and his wife had jobs. Everything seems to be going well for him, and yet their father still takes care of them.

His own life was tough, and his father still meddled in everything.

His father cares more about He Ming than he does about me.

At that moment, Wei Pozi had just finished making dinner. Hearing people enter, she called out cheerfully, "You’re back? The dinner’s in the pot. I’m busy with the kids, so please serve yourselves."

Wei Pozi was overwhelmed by her grandchildren’s antics. The two kids, usually well-behaved, were causing trouble today.

They were crying and making it impossible for her to leave the house.

Hearing the noise from the inner room, Qi Yingying felt a deep sense of discomfort.

"Eldest, isn’t your wife’s mother staying? The two of you are struggling to manage your own small family, so why are you bringing her along?" Qi Yingying felt a lot of animosity toward Wei Pozi.

Her own son hadn’t even called her "Mom," but he had already called someone else that.

"Of course, our whole family has to stay together. We already have a place to live, don’t we?" Wang Qinghe’s stance was firm.

Qi Yingying was even more infuriated. "What do you mean by 'whole family'? What does an in-law’s mother have to do with us?"

The new house will be similar to where her eldest son lives now. She had hoped that once everyone was familiar, He Ming could come to stay occasionally.

Or maybe He Cheng and his wife could move in.

Since we’ve already bought the house, shouldn’t everyone benefit from it?

But if they bring an old lady back, what will they do?

She thought he was joking when he mentioned it before, but now he’s serious?

Wei Pozi, having heard the commotion outside, also came out of the room.

"Oh dear, why didn’t you let me know you were coming? I would have prepared more food. You came so suddenly." Wei Pozi wasn’t too pleased with her new daughter-in-law’s mother.

She saw them when they arrived.

They came late at night without any prior notice, in a rush.

She had intended to make them wait outside a bit longer, but her daughter and son-in-law returned earlier than expected.

Now, she could only pretend not to know they had arrived.

Qi Yingying disliked Wei Pozi, and hearing her talk only made her more irritated. What was she talking about? It sounded like they had come in a rush and didn’t care.

Moreover, she had been waiting outside for over ten minutes. Couldn’t she see that?

It was so cold that her hands and feet ached.

"We don’t need you to make any food. Just don’t leave us out here to freeze," Qi Yingying replied sarcastically.

    Wei Pozi was taken aback.

    We’re leaving tonight?

She had thought these people came suddenly, but now they were leaving just as suddenly.

Couldn’t they stay until the next morning at least?

"We’ve already arranged good jobs for both children. We need to hurry and reunite with them to start a new life. Haven’t you even packed yet?"

    Qi Yingying frowned tightly.

"This is rather sudden. Couldn’t you have informed us earlier?"

    Wei Pozi complained somewhat unwillingly.

"I’ve been busy. Where would I find the time to inform you in advance? Anyway, let’s hurry and get going. Let’s pack up and leave."

    Qi Yingying urged them impatiently.

Wei Pozi was worried about the lamb. She wondered if her daughter had found a way to bring it along. In the provincial city, they can’t just go hunting in the mountains as they do here.

"We’ll go pack our things. You wait here," Wang Qinghe said with a frown. Though he was unhappy with the situation, going to the provincial city sooner would benefit him and Xiuxiu.

Luckily, he had already said goodbye to Uncle Chen and Master the day before.

Seeing that her man had agreed, Bai Xiuxiu didn’t say anything. "Mom, let’s pack up. You help pack the kids' things, and Qinghe and I will pack the rest in our room."

"Go ahead," Wei Pozi said, and after closing the door to the room she shared with the two kids, she began to sort and pack their things.

Luckily, they had made some preparations beforehand, thinking that if they ever needed to leave, they wouldn’t have to pack everything at the last minute.

    So, the packing went quickly.

Wang Qinghe and Bai Xiuxiu’s room was even simpler to pack.

Bai Xiuxiu put all the valuable items into the storage space, including most of the food.

She only left behind items that took up space but were neither heavy nor valuable.

After they finished packing, Qi Yingying looked at everything with clear disdain.

"Why does the eldest brother have so little stuff?"

"He Cheng, go help your older brother carry the things," urged Qi Yingying, pressing her son. Why were they just standing there like they had no manners?

While she favored these two, the eldest was still her son.

Now that they've taken him back, they can't neglect him too much.

Otherwise, people would laugh at us.

"Alright," He Cheng reluctantly agreed, his reluctance plain to see.

Wang Qinghe glanced at him casually before hoisting a large pack, wide enough for two people, onto his shoulder.

Under He Cheng’s astonished gaze, Wang Qinghe replied lightly, "No need."

Then he turned to his wife, "Xiuxiu, lock the door when you’re done."

    "Sure."

Shouldering a pack as big as a small hill, Wang Qinghe left the room. Inside, He Ming, who had been zoning out, was now wide awake. "Mom, how can my eldest brother be so strong?"

Qi Yingying hadn’t raised Wang Qinghe, so she knew little about him.

She knew he was capable, but now, seeing this, it was evident that his strength was extraordinary. With such strength, he could handle any job, anywhere.
