Chapter 325
by 乔喵喵Chapter 325
Qi Yingying: ...
She hasn’t even said anything yet!
In a disgruntled tone, Qi Yingying called out to her daughter and her second son, “He Wei, He Ming, both of you go help out in the kitchen.”
He Wei had made a mistake today, and now that she had calmed down, the fear started to set in.
If Dad really kicks her out, how will she survive?
Feeling embarrassed, she followed them to the kitchen. He Ming, who hadn’t done anything, was totally lost.
Why did he have to go too?
Why wasn’t the second brother going?
Just as He Ming was about to ask, He Cheng had already helped his wife to her feet.
“Dad, I’m going to take my wife back to our room to rest for a while.”
“Alright, if you’re still feeling uncomfortable, go to the hospital and get checked out,” He Zhifei’s attitude toward his second son had started to improve over the past two days.
Although the second son wasn’t very capable and was lazy, he still had a sense of responsibility. He knew how to protect his wife and forgive his younger siblings.
His heart was in the right place.
He Cheng helped his wife into their room, leaving He Ming with no one to ask.
There was no point in asking. After all, the second brother and his family were the victims, right?
As for the eldest brother and sister-in-law… it was obvious they wouldn’t do any work.
He Ming went to the kitchen dejectedly.
He Zhifei turned to his eldest son and daughter-in-law. “Come and sit down,” he said kindly. “Qinghe, you were telling me earlier that you want to learn Traditional Chinese Medicine. I’ve already asked around for you. I’ll let you know when there’s good news.”
“I’m proud of you for working so hard to study in such a tough environment. I’m very interested in the village where you lived. Would you like to tell me about it?”
He Zhifei was clearly satisfied with his eldest son. Because he was proud of him, he wanted to understand him more.
That way, their relationship could deepen.
Wang Qinghe also needed He Zhifei to be satisfied with him. As long as this family had expectations of him, he could gain more benefits.
He picked the aspects that he thought would benefit him and began to talk.
In the kitchen, He Ming leaned against the kitchen door, trying to listen to what was being said in the living room.
Seeing him like that, Qi Yingying frowned, clearly annoyed. “What are you doing? Hurry up and wash the vegetables. It’s winter; do you want Weiwei to wash them? What if she gets frozen?”
“Mom, I think you’ve spoiled her. That’s why she dares to do anything at home. She even dared to hit Second Sister-in-Law (Wei Wei), who is pregnant. If this keeps up, she’ll think she can get away with anything. A sweet girl like Mengmeng wouldn’t stand a chance against He Wei’s temper, would she?”
He wasn’t as pampered at home as his second brother.
How is he supposed to live like this?
He Ming was already thinking about how he’d protect his wife from now on, so they wouldn’t seem like an easy target.
He Wei didn’t know what he was thinking, but his face told her it wasn’t anything good, so she stomped on his shoe.
"Ow! What the heck?!" He Ming cried out in pain, jumping around.
"Nothing, just stop talking behind my back." He Wei frowned. She was about to say that she didn’t plan on fighting today, but Second Sister-in-Law got spooked by Ji Feng and demanded someone stand up for her.
He Huihui said Ji Feng shouldn’t be treated unfairly.
That’s when she clashed with Second Sister-in-Law.
In the middle of the argument, someone shoved her.
She was shoved toward Second Sister-in-Law, and they both tumbled.
Second Sister-in-Law fell into the sofa, and she fell to the ground.
When Second Brother arrived, he mistakenly thought that she had pushed Second Sister-in-Law.
Even Second Sister-in-Law thought she did it, so she slapped He Wei the moment she stood up.
Since she was wronged, she certainly wasn’t going to take it lying down and prepared to explain.
But Ji Feng stood up for her and started a quarrel with Second Brother and Second Sister-in-Law.
She couldn't let Ji Feng down, so she lashed out.
As soon as she lashed out, she immediately regretted it. It was her second brother's wife—and she’s pregnant!
She didn’t know what got into her—after He Huihui spoke, her brain short-circuited.
"You’re being pretty annoying today," He Ming cut in, his tone dripping with disdain.
He Wei’s anger flared at He Ming’s words, and she whirled around to face her mom. "Mom, look at him!"
"Get back to washing those veggies. One more word to He Wei, and you’ll have me to deal with," Qi Yingying snapped, giving He Ming a sharp glare. She then pulled He Wei to her side and couldn't help but sigh. "I just don’t get it. You’ve got so much going for you, but why do you always mess things up? Your father and I were hoping you’d marry well. But instead, you keep making the worst choices. And now, you went as far as hitting your second sister-in-law.
No matter how stubborn you are, you never hit family.
Your second sister-in-law is carrying your baby nephew. What were you thinking?
Now, I don’t even know how to stand up for you.
If I stick up for you, your second brother will feel betrayed. But if I don’t, you’re still my baby girl."
Qi Yingying was both troubled and sad.
He Wei lowered her head, feeling equally upset.
She truly liked Ji Feng, but her moment of impulsiveness was real, and so was her big mistake.
But she couldn't shake the feeling that something was off.
"Mom, if it really doesn't work, why don't you ask Big Sister-in-law? Isn't she from the community office? She should be better at handling these kinds of family disputes. If that doesn't work, you can try the Women's Federation?" He Ming started offering suggestions, tired of going without meals every day.
"What does the community office even know about this stuff? As for the Women's Federation, they'd just say we're not respecting He Wei's personal opinion. Stop giving me bad ideas." Qi Yingying threw a potato at her son.
He Ming caught the potato swiftly and threw it back to her.
After her son's little interruption, her anger subsided a bit.
She was about to try and persuade He Wei some more, but He Wei spoke first, "Mom, I still want to marry Ji Feng. If you don't allow it, I'll go to the Women's Federation."
Her eyes were frighteningly bright.
Qi Yingying wished she could throw a potato at her head to make her come to her senses. She wished she hadn’t mentioned the Women's Federation and mentally slapped herself for it.
"Mom, you have to agree to this. You're right; it's not okay to disrespect my personal opinion now. As for the wedding stuff, if you don't give me anything… it doesn't matter. I’ll marry him with or without your help. Whatever happens after that, I’ll deal with it on my own.
It's settled. I'm going to find Dad now."
He Wei said and bolted for the door.
Qi Yingying grabbed her quickly, "What nonsense are you saying? You’re not even thinking about dinner tonight, are you?
"Mom, let me go. I can't go on like this anymore. He Ming truly likes me, and I truly love him. I don't want things like today to happen again. My Second Sister-in-law and I have always clashed. It’s better if I get married sooner so you can have some peace."
He Wei struggled and dashed out.
Her mother’s gaze was sharp enough to cut through him.
He Ming braced himself for another night of hunger.
