    Chapter 323

The He family was all gathered in the hall.

He Zhifei and Qi Yingying sat with gloomy expressions, silent, but it was clear they were on the verge of exploding.

On the wide bench sat He Cheng and his wife. Xu Niandi held her stomach, a slap mark visible on her face.

He Ming stood in the corner, seemingly shocked by something.

On the other side, He Wei stood in front of her parents, her hair a mess and her eyes swollen from crying. Next to her was a young man.

Wang Qinghe guessed this must be Ji Feng.

To the left of He Zhifei and Qi Yingying, He Tian and He Huihui sat on chairs.

He Tian appeared emotionless, while He Huihui’s face was swollen and red, her sobs quiet, clearly having suffered some injustice.

Bai Xiuxiu and Wang Qinghe looked around the room in shock.

They knew the family had been going through some drama lately, but not to this extent.

"Big brother and sister-in-law are here!" A dazed He Ming saw Wang Qinghe and Bai Xiuxiu and felt like he had found his saviors.

Oh, right, isn’t your sister-in-law from the community office?

He remembered the community office was supposed to help manage these kinds of situations.

The house was a mess, and he hadn’t even had dinner yet!

He couldn’t understand how this family could be even more chaotic than yesterday.

If things kept going like this, he’d starve to death.

The whole family turned to look at Bai Xiuxiu and Wang Qinghe.

As they entered, He Zhifei felt embarrassed but managed a forced smile. "Qinghe, Xiuxiu, you’re off work? How’s work going? Any difficulties? Have you eaten? If not, how about some food here?"

He Zhifei was about to offer them a meal.

Then he remembered—they hadn’t started cooking yet!

When he got home from work, he saw Yingying trying to clean up the mess.

Normally, she would be home earlier and cook, but today, she was breaking up fights when he returned.

He couldn’t figure out how things had escalated into a fight.

Didn’t they all calm down yesterday?

Wang Qinghe had come over to check on the He family and see what was going on with his wife.

So he responded to He Zhifei’s questions one by one. "We just finished work and thought we’d stop by to bond with the family, like you suggested. We were thinking of staying for dinner. Would that be inconvenient?"

He asked He Zhifei in return.

"Of course it’s convenient! Why wouldn’t it be? Come and sit. Your mom just got home from work, and she’ll start cooking soon."

He Zhifei kept giving his wife meaningful glances.

Qi Yingying was fuming, still reeling from the events of the past two days. First, He Youde's two children were sent back yesterday, and today He Huihui had stirred up a fight between He Wei and Second Sister-in-Law, to the point that they even started hitting each other.

And then there was this Ji Feng, who had been brought back by He Huihui.

Now that things were such a mess, did they really think she'd just roll over and start cooking?

    Fat chance!

Qi Yingying gave her husband a disdainful look and sneered. "Cook? Qinghe, you came back just in time. If you hadn't, don't even think about coming home for a meal. I don't think our family would even be able to breathe in this house."

"He was only just brought back to the provincial city and has only recently started working. Why are you bringing this up?" He Zhifei's expression changed drastically. He had wanted to leave a good impression on his child.

    What was Yingying getting at?

"If not this, then what are you trying to hide?" Qi Yingying asked him as she wiped her tears.

She then turned to Wang Qinghe, looking even more wronged. "Qinghe, Mom is useless. I couldn't even send that criminal, the one who caused you to be taken away, to the police. And now, I can't do anything about his children staying at our house."

Her introduction left He Tian and He Huihui feeling incredibly awkward.

He Huihui, already in tears, looked even more pitiful. She turned to her uncle, He Zhifei, for help, looking lost.

He Zhifei frowned. "Yingying, what are you doing? This is our business as adults; what does this have to do with the children?"

He quickly tried to explain to Wang Qinghe, "Qinghe, it's not like what your mom said. You..."

    Wang Qinghe smiled. "I know."

    He didn’t say anything more.

He didn’t say he was willing, nor that he wasn’t.

He left it to He Zhifei and Qi Yingying to interpret his silence.

Qi Yingying couldn’t quite read her eldest son’s thoughts, but one thing was clear: she was determined to get rid of He Huihui.

"Mom understands. You must dislike them. Don't worry, I'll drive them all out," Qi Yingying said, pointing at He Zhifei.

"Old He, I can't let our child be wronged. I thought about letting it go yesterday, but look at what happened today. What did He Huihui do? She secretly brought Ji Feng into our house, scaring He Cheng's wife.

He Cheng just wanted justice for his wife, just an apology from Ji Feng.

But Huihui stirred things up, telling He Wei that Ji Feng was a guest and deserved respect and all that.

In the end, our whole family started fighting.

Whether she did it on purpose or not, if we keep her here any longer, won't our house turn into complete chaos?

I was only thinking about it before, but now that our eldest son is back, I'm even more determined.

Old He, our eldest son has suffered enough. I..."

Qi Yingying attributed all her decisions to Wang Qinghe's sake without hesitation.

Wang Qinghe couldn’t help but find the whole situation somewhat amusing.

If they truly cared about him, He Youde and the Old Wang’s family would be in jail right now.

Instead, things are far from that.

From the start, he never expected anything from this family, and similarly, he wasn’t prepared to let them use him.

Only he could take what was owed to him.

At that moment, Qi Yingying felt sure that Old He still loved his eldest son.

“What’s done is done. I’m doing fine now, and I don’t want you to get into trouble because of me,” Wang Qinghe suddenly spoke up.

Breaking all of Qi Yingying’s plans.

Qi Yingying was so shocked she wanted to leap up and slap him, demanding if he’d lost his mind.

Why wasn’t he standing by her?

    She’s his mom!

He Zhifei hadn’t expected his eldest son to be so mature.

Even though he wouldn’t call them ‘Mom’ or ‘Dad’ right now, the fact that he was willing to forgive all of this showed what a kind child he was.

    Given time, he’ll come around.

Tears welled up in He Zhifei’s eyes as he spoke, “Good, good, this is my son. Yingying, stop overthinking. Talking about these things in front of the kids will only drive them apart.

Huihui, don’t take what was just said to heart.

But you really shouldn’t have brought Ji Feng to our home. For that, you need to apologize to our family.”

He Zhifei looked at his poor niece.
