Chapter 53 The Elite Werewolf Big Boss
byChapter 53: Elite Werewolf Big Boss
"Swish—swish—"
Two streaks of green light, swift as meteors, shot through the air. The two werewolves assigned to Hua Diao were instantly killed, bursting into two treasure chests on the spot.
Da Bao, Er Bao, and San Bao, busy firing their guns, watched with envy. This weapon clearly outperformed their firearms. Even Lin Xiaobao cast an impressed glance at the Elven Wooden Bow in her hand.
Silent. Discreet.
One-shot kills, more powerful than guns.
It seemed that the future of mainstream weaponry would rely on game weapons obtained from treasure chests. The limitations of firearms were already becoming apparent. While they could still handle monsters now, if monster levels continued to rise, more powerful game weapons would inevitably replace guns and military arms—unless weapon experts could develop firearms with even greater firepower.
In that brief moment, Lin Xiaobao's mind raced through countless thoughts. He decided then and there to start hunting monsters and completing missions with his three "idiot" brothers from today onward, aiming to acquire game weapons or exchange contribution points at the Special Operations Bureau for them.
While he was lost in thought, the five of them had already taken out the six werewolves blocking their path. After hitting "Collect," they didn’t have time to open the chests before the loot followed them as they ran.
The single treasure chest that had been diligently trailing them earlier had now multiplied to seven.
Though their golden glow made them conspicuously obvious, they also served as excellent defensive artifacts, capable of blocking fatal blows at critical moments.
For instance, just as they escaped the encirclement of those six werewolves, an Elite Werewolf Boss rounded the corner from the other side of the demolition buildings. Its massive wolf tooth club loomed over them like a giant robot, casting a shadow as it swung down toward their heads.
"Quick, dodge—!"
San Bao was the first to sound the alarm, yelling his lungs out.
"Boom—"
The wolf tooth club crashed down, smashing part of a nearby demolition building to rubble. The impact sent a deafening roar through the air.
The five of them nimbly dodged the direct hit, but they hadn’t anticipated the debris from the collapsing building—bricks and rubble rained down on them like a barrage.
Lin Xiaobao, in particular, got the short end of the stick. Though he was the smart one, his physical prowess and agility couldn’t compare to his three brawny, simple-minded brothers, nor did he have Hua Diao’s luck—somehow, she remained completely unscathed despite standing dumbly in the path of a collapsing wall. After dodging a shard of flying glass and a steel rod, a third piece of rubble came hurtling straight for his forehead with terrifying speed.
Behind him, fallen bricks blocked his retreat, leaving him nowhere to run. Given his physical abilities, there was no way he could escape this crisis.
Just as the rubble was about to split his skull open, a loud clang rang out. The treasure chest floating near him shifted slightly as he turned, coincidentally intercepting the projectile. The rubble, which should have split his head open, was deflected, landing only a glancing blow on his arm and leaving a small bruise.
Clearly, trading a minor injury for the safety of his brilliant mind was more than worth it.
Wiping the cold sweat from his forehead, Lin Xiaobao shot a grateful look at the hovering treasure chest.
It was as if a new world had opened before him—he’d just discovered a new trick for these chests. The only question was whether they could withstand a werewolf’s wolf tooth club.
Meanwhile, his three brothers rushed over in a panic, frantically checking him for injuries.
"Xiao Bao, are you okay?"
"That was close! Your smart little brain almost got smashed. If you’d ended up dumber than us, Mom would’ve assumed we did it on purpose out of jealousy. We’d never hear the end of it!"
"Yeah, yeah, thank goodness your brain’s still intact."
Brushing dirt off, Lin Xiaobao rolled his eyes at them.
These three idiots always ruined the moment when he was feeling sentimental!
"Hey, are you guys done with the family reunion? I can’t hold this Elite Werewolf Boss off much longer! This thing’s way stronger than those three wrecking crew members from Lakeside Boulevard. Is this, like, an elite among elites—a big boss or something?"
On the other side, Hua Diao was gasping for breath as she dodged and fired arrows to maintain the boss’s aggro. In between shots, she yelled in frustration at the four brothers.
Could they not see this was a life-or-death situation? Who cared about brains when their lives were on the line?
Now she truly understood Lin Xiaobao’s daily suffering with his three moronic brothers. Damn, she was starting to resent them too!
Did they really think it was okay to leave a poor, helpless girl like her to solo a big boss? Was this just because she didn’t have brothers to back her up?
Her mental state in shambles, Hua Diao’s gaze suddenly locked onto the Elite Werewolf Big Boss—and her pupils contracted in horror.
"Holy crap, it’s got a whole pack of werewolf minions behind it...!"
Any urge to complain vanished instantly. This was an emergency—danger, danger, DANGER!!!
Lin Xiaobao also grasped the severity of the situation. His expression darkened as he barked, "Forget this big boss! We’re taking another route—head to Lakeside Boulevard! The Special Operations Bureau has reinforcements there!"
Hua Diao shot a reluctant glance at the Elite Werewolf Big Boss. She’d already landed seven or eight arrows on it—if there were a health bar, she’d probably chipped away hundreds of HP by now. Abandoning it now meant someone else would reap the rewards.
But one look at the thirty-plus werewolf minions behind it made her swallow her regret.
The five of them fled for their lives. This time, there was no choice—the main road ahead was swarming with werewolves. Their only option was the perilous, crumbling alley lined with demolition buildings.
"BOOM—"
"CRASH—"
"CLANG—"
The sounds of destruction and collapse echoed relentlessly behind them. Whether it was because Hua Diao had drawn too much aggro or not, the Elite Werewolf Big Boss ignored the abandoned park, instead chasing them with its massive wolf tooth club raised high.
Da Bao and the others turned and fired several shots at it, but the bullets might as well have been tickling it.
Hua Diao’s sharp eyes noticed that its furry thigh showed no wounds—just a few scorched hairs.
Huh. That was... a stark difference. Her Elven Wooden Bow had left multiple bloody holes in it.
After this was over, she needed to thoroughly test the differences between game weapons and guns.
Lin Xiaobao, witnessing the same scene, thought the same.
The gap hadn’t been as obvious with the regular werewolf minions, but with this Elite Big Boss as a benchmark, the disparity between firearms and game weapons was undeniable.
