Chapter 99 Spirit Testing Crystal
byChapter 99: The Spirit-Testing Crystal
Hua Diao extended a finger, and the tiny succubus, hovering mid-air, immediately fluttered its wings, whimpering as it drew near.
The palm-sized succubus was enveloped in a swirling mist of black and red, its general outline resembling a humanoid figure with demonic wings and a small, pointed horn on its forehead, its facial features obscured.
It stretched out two tiny hands to grasp Hua Diao’s finger, then pressed its small head against it, gently nuzzling with the sharp little horn on its forehead.
It looked, in every way, like a docile, well-behaved little pet.
Zhu Bin’s eyes lit up with envy—damn, he wanted one too!
But the next second, his dear Brother Sheng seized him by the scruff of his neck, lifting him up and dragging him out.
Zhu Bin wore a look of regret but quickly perked up, dashing downstairs with excitement. "I wonder if that other little succubus downstairs has been killed by the Chu couple yet. No, I have to go save it!"
Xie Tingsheng shot him a cold glance, mercilessly dousing his hopes. "Even if it’s alive, it’s useless to you. You don’t have a master-servant contract scroll."
Zhu Bin: "...Why state the obvious? Can't a guy dream?"
After seeing the two off and confirming they wouldn’t return, Hua Diao swiftly retreated into her bedroom, beckoning the little succubus to follow. Once inside, she locked the door and then vanished into her personal space.
Inside the island space, the water was as blue as ever, and the air just as fresh. Hua Diao took a deep breath. "Huh, the air seems even better than before."
She muttered suspiciously to herself as she walked toward the planting area.
The fruit trees she had bought before the apocalypse were already bearing small, unripe fruits, and the vegetable plots had sprouted seedlings growing at an impressive speed—especially for native Bluewater Star plants like tomatoes, peas, and leafy greens. Not only had they sprouted, but they’d also grown tender green leaves. At this rate, in another seven or eight days, these leafy greens would be ready for their first harvest.
Hmm—
So the space also accelerated plant growth?
The island space left behind by the Koi Deity contained spiritual energy—could that be the reason?
After inspecting the ordinary vegetables, Hua Diao turned her attention to the small patch of land in the corner, where she had planted seeds obtained from game treasure chests. The codonopsis and vitex showed no signs of growth yet, but the licorice had already quietly sprouted, revealing tiny green shoots.
As she looked over, the two tiny leaves—smaller than a fingernail—swayed slightly, as if waving at her.
Hua Diao leaned in with fascination. It seemed the spiritual energy in the island space also affected seeds from the Fantasy Continent. Or was it that the spiritual energy from the Koi Deity’s space and the magical energy of the Fantasy Continent shared a common origin?
Pondering this, she finished examining her crops and then teleported to the other side of the island to feed the livestock—chickens, ducks, cows, sheep, and pigs—with fodder.
"Animals fed only on fodder won’t taste as good. I should sow some pasture grass seeds. With the accelerated growth in this space, the grass should sprout quickly."
Hua Diao muttered her plans as she watched the animals scurry about.
Without delay, she teleported again to another stretch of coastline.
Over the past few days, as she grew more familiar with the island space, she had mastered the ability to teleport at will with just a thought. This saved her a great deal of time and effort that would otherwise be spent trekking across the island.
In the blink of an eye, she arrived at the new coastline and began tossing handfuls of pasture grass seeds far from the water’s edge. Once the grass grew, she could relocate the livestock here.
The little succubus fluttered its wings, buzzing excitedly behind her, its small black head swiveling curiously as it took in the sights of the space. Though its underdeveloped brain couldn’t process complex thoughts, it cooed happily with simple delight.
Hua Diao smirked, thinking it wasn’t so bad having this little creature accompany her on her rounds.
After finishing these routine tasks, she headed to the mountain of treasure chests where she stored her loot.
Last night, she had used one-time skill scrolls to blast her way through, resulting in quite a haul of treasure chests. While Xie Tingsheng was outside cooking with the magical pot, she had sneaked into the bedroom to collect them, then dumped them all into her space.
Surveying the pile, she noted that while the quantity wasn’t as impressive as the massive haul from Old Town District when she’d used the lightning scroll, the quality was undoubtedly better—especially the ten chests she had retrieved from the dungeon.
Rubbing her hands together, Hua Diao got to work.
As per her usual method, she started with the brightest, most dazzling chest.
"Wow—Wood Pearl, Spirit-Testing Crystal, high-grade permanent scroll ‘Water Tornado,’ a small spatial ring, and a high-grade water-attribute staff!"
Every single item was top-tier!
No wonder this was the ultimate reward chest for clearing the tenth level of the dungeon. Each of these items was among the rarest and most coveted treasures on Bluewater Star right now.
The Wood Pearl needed no explanation—Attribute Pearls were rare items capable of awakening human talents. Just yesterday, after clearing the dungeon and becoming the tenth global player to do so, she had received a Water Pearl as a reward. That alone showed how rare they were.
The Spirit-Testing Crystal was exactly what she currently lacked. By channeling a bit of spiritual energy into it, she could determine which attribute best suited her innate potential—a crucial step before using an Attribute Pearl.
Talk about perfect timing! She wasn't sure which attribute aligned with her talents and had even considered seeking out Dr. Nie at the Research Institute to see if they had any similar testing tools.
That would’ve cost her a testing fee.
But now, with the Spirit-Testing Crystal, she wouldn’t need the Research Institute. In fact, she could even turn it into a business, charging others to test their compatible attributes!
Holding the crystal in her hand, Hua Diao’s face lit up with joy before she composed herself, focusing intently as she channeled spiritual energy into it.
The little succubus peeked over curiously, fluttering closer to investigate. Suddenly, a pure blue light erupted from the crystal, instantly flooding its entire structure with a deep, ocean-like hue.
Startled, the little succubus stumbled mid-air, flapping its wings frantically before wobbling toward Hua Diao’s face and burying itself in her black hair, trembling.
Heh, what a timid little thing!
Hua Diao spared it a brief thought before refocusing on the Spirit-Testing Crystal.
