Chapter 134 Little Sister-in-Law Brings Her Good Luck
byChapter 134: Sis-in-law Brings Her Good Luck
The originally panicked crowd, who had been shaking in their boots and only wanted to flee, couldn't help but feel their eyes grow hot and their hearts moved.
Who would have thought that their cold, silent, and bloodthirsty captain, Xie Tingsheng, would act so heroically for the sake of Qingcheng's people? They felt ashamed of their own cowardice!
Thus, those who'd built up Xie Tingsheng as a hero in their minds immediately felt reassured. With determined expressions, they resolved to stand with their captain and defend Qingcheng to the death.
Hua Diao stood at the front of the group, pulling out defense items from her space while glancing at the people around her.
What's wrong with you guys?
What’s with that whole "the wind howls, the river chills, the hero departs never to return" tragic hero vibe?
And why are they just standing there instead of running? Don’t they know they’re just being a liability?
Though she thought this, her hands moved honestly, albeit painfully, as she swapped for a larger, higher-grade, one-time-use rare-level Skill Scroll - Water Barrier.
As the scroll was torn open, a translucent blue barrier shot up into the sky, shielding everyone from above. The massive black hoof pressed down, colliding with the blue barrier. Another violent wave of invisible energy exploded outward, sending nearby lampposts flying.
Rare versus rare—and Hua Diao’s Skill Scroll was a top-tier one-time-use rare item—so when the two forces clashed, the Water Barrier came out on top. The giant hoof dissipated, but the Minotaur, furious, launched a third attack. The Water Barrier blocked it once more before slowly fading away.
Zhu Bin watched with envy. "Sis-in-law, what level was that Skill Scroll?"
Hua Diao’s face twisted in pain. "Rare. And it was the only rare defense scroll I had. If that goddamn Level 61 Minotaur attacks again, I won’t be able to protect everyone. Pull the team back."
Zhu Bin hesitated, his worry unconcealed as he watched Xie Tingsheng, who had already leaped onto the Minotaur’s head, swinging his death scythe and drawing all its aggro. "But Brother Sheng... Maybe I should pick a few strong ones to stay and help?"
Hua Diao followed his gaze. Xie Tingsheng was managing fine for now—since he had got the jump on the Minotaur and landed on its head, the clumsy, brainless beast couldn’t use spells and could only resort to physical attacks like swiping with its hands or shaking its head to dislodge the "little flea" on top.
She exhaled slightly and nodded after a moment’s thought. "Fine."
As long as they weren’t dead weight, more hands meant more strength.
With her approval, Zhu Bin immediately went to pick his team. He Yongxin, Yao Hui, and other veterans were naturally included. But when he reached Song Yan, he hesitated. Would bringing her along risk a backstab against Sis-in-law?
It wasn’t that he didn’t trust Song Yan—it was just that women crazy in love had a history of doing irrational things. Even if Song Yan had once been upright, he couldn’t be sure now.
Song Yan understood his concerns. Without pushing, she simply pulled out a few powerful one-time-use Skill Scrolls from her space item and handed them over, voluntarily bowing out.
Seeing this, the other team members also generously contributed.
In the end, Zhu Bin returned with ten people, each carrying an armful of scrolls.
Meanwhile, Hua Diao was busy opening the treasure chests dropped by the two Level 41 Minotaurs they had killed earlier.
Though it was unclear whether this Monster Wave and the game system were good or bad, the game had remained balanced so far, with no unsolvable bugs. Therefore, this unexpected Level 61 Minotaur fusion couldn’t be unbeatable. Hua Diao suspected the solution might lie in the loot from the two Level 41 Minotaurs.
When she opened the two chests, the sheer number of items inside nearly dazzled everyone. He Yongxin and the others who had followed Zhu Bin back nearly dropped their jaws.
Holy crap, they had never seen such densely packed treasure chests! There had to be at least ten items inside, right?
The unsophisticated country bumpkins were utterly shocked!
Only Zhu Bin was ecstatic. She’s here, she’s here—Sis-in-law has arrived with her incredible luck!
Let these bumpkins witness what a true luck goddess looks like!
But Hua Diao herself wasn’t in the mood to show off. Hurriedly, she pulled out the items from the chests, checking their descriptions for anything that could counter the Level 61 Minotaur.
Item: Circle of Imprisonment
Level: Rare
Description: One-time-use item. Draw a connected circle to trap monsters inside, preventing them from using any spells or items. Note: Only works on monsters corrupted by the Abyss. Ineffective against other rational species. Duration: 3 minutes.
Hua Diao’s eyes lit up. She remembered now—the black-red mist was the same as the black-red substance she had seen on those who died from Abyss corruption after she escaped the mermaid's illusion in the old district. The corroded wounds matched too.
That meant the Level 61 Minotaur must be an Abyss-corrupted monster. This Circle of Imprisonment was practically tailor-made for it! And with a three-minute duration, they could safely attack from range while the Minotaur was trapped and unable to use spells. They could bombard it with Skill Scrolls and spells—no matter how long its health bar was.
Still, to be safe, Hua Diao decided to check the other items in the chest.
Everything else was top-tier too—mostly rare-level items: one-time-use Skill Scrolls, rare potions, rare shields. Most importantly, there was a full set of rare Minotaur armor—chestplate, boots, bracers, and helmet—all with insane defense stats. Wearing it would let someone go toe-to-toe with a Level 41 Minotaur.
There was just one downside: it was ugly.
Minotaurs were known for their diligence and simplicity—what kind of aesthetics could you expect from them? The Minotaur set was entirely red, their favorite color.
Rumor had it that bulls went berserk at the sight of red. Who knew if a brainless Minotaur would too?
After a moment’s thought, Hua Diao decided to put on the godawful red Minotaur set.
She threw out a quick "You guys keep the Minotaur’s aggro and buy time—I’m going to draw a circle!" before charging ahead.
The confused Zhu Bin and the others looked at each other confused. "Draw a circle?"
"What does drawing a circle have to do with fighting a Minotaur?"
In the end, Zhu Bin took charge. "Listen to Sis-in-law. Let’s help Brother Sheng keep the aggro. She’s not one to mess around—if she says to draw a circle, it must be important."
The others had no better ideas, so they gritted their teeth and followed Zhu Bin’s lead.
