Chapter 190 Investigating Brother Biao
byChapter 190: Investigating Brother Biao
In the living room, Jiang Yao and her father’s faces simultaneously fell.
That scoundrel dared to show up here?
While Jiang’s father, being weak-willed, merely sank into silent dejection, Jiang Yao’s temper flared, her face flushing crimson.
She had long been displeased with her “brother” Jiang Yu. Growing up, her mother had clearly favored him, but as he was her brother, she had tolerated it. Now, knowing Jiang Yu wasn't her full brother, all her past forbearance and care felt like a cruel joke. How could she possibly tolerate it any longer? She was ready to confront the man immediately, to see what he looked like and why her mother had betrayed her father with him.
But just as she rose, Chu Chengling stopped her.
“You want to stop me?” Jiang Yao shot him a furious glare.
Chu Chengling looked helpless. “No, I just think we should first investigate that man’s background thoroughly. If he was with your mother for so long before the apocalypse and even fathered a son, yet your mother never divorced to be with him, he might harbor resentment towards your father. Xiangxiang said he’s doing well in the apocalypse. If we confront him rashly, we might be the ones getting a lesson.”
Chu’s mother and Chu Xiangxiang quickly chimed in, “Yes, yes, don’t go out. What if that man is truly powerful? We could end up dragging our family into trouble.”
“You’re living in our Chu family’s home now. You should consider our family more. Besides, your parents are already separated and estranged, aren’t they? That man showing up has little to do with you…”
The more Jiang Yao listened, the angrier she became. These two weren't trying to calm her down; they were fanning the flames.
Still, their words resonated. Her anger-clouded mind began to clear, and after sitting back down, she urged Chu Chengling to quickly find someone to investigate the man’s background. She didn’t sit idle either, asking a friend in the community’s self-defense team to keep an eye on him.
Chen Fei caught the young man secretly sending messages during his shift, his face stern as he admonished, “What are you grinning about? You’re on patrol; don’t get distracted.”
The young man wasn’t intimidated, grinning cheekily. “Relax, Brother Fei. The Special Operations Bureau has already sent word—the monster tide has diminished due to the cold, and their attack power has also decreased. There’s no need for us to be so tense.”
Just as Chen Fei was about to retort and scold him further, the young man changed the subject. “Brother Fei, did you hear about the stranger who showed up on the seventeenth floor of Building A?”
Chen Fei immediately grew alert. The unfamiliar squad that visited Building A yesterday was not to be trifled with—they were even trying to buy off his Big Sister. Another unfamiliar face today warranted caution.
He signaled with his eyes for the young man to continue.
“Heh-heh, that man is supposedly the lover of the woman in Unit 1702. He came to find his son.”
“You mean the woman who cheated on her husband early on and passed off her lover’s illegitimate child as her husband’s son for him to raise?”
“Exactly, that’s him.”
Chen Fei’s expression showed recognition. He remembered the drama of that family well, as they had a feud with Big Sister.
However, the timing of this man’s appearance was too coincidental. He remained wary.
“Where did you hear this?”
“Heh-heh, her own daughter asked me to keep an eye on that man, to see who he really is.”
“Oh.” Chen Fei’s eyes flickered, then his expression softened as he patted the young man’s shoulder. “Since she’s formally entrusted you with this, you’d better investigate thoroughly. And don’t think I’m not a good brother—I’ll help you investigate too. I’ll also ask the other patrol brothers if anyone has an impression of that man or knew him before.”
With that, he immediately went to seek help from his comrades.
The young man left behind looked bewildered. Was he the one secretly crushing on Jiang Yao, or was it Brother Fei?
Why did Brother Fei seem even more enthusiastic than him?
He shook his head, quickly dispelling the absurd thought, then hurried after Chen Fei to help with the inquiries.
Thus, Brother Biao, who had only wished to keep a low profile, had no idea his whereabouts had been exposed. Thanks to Chen Fei’s actions, the news of his arrival at Jinxiu Huayuan spread like wildfire. Even Hua Diao and Xie Tingsheng received a warning from Chen Fei, informing them that the biological father of Jiang Yu, the illegitimate son from the seventeenth floor, had arrived—and that this person might be trouble.
Upon seeing the message, Hua Diao raised an eyebrow, somewhat suspicious. “Chen Fei’s quite vigilant. This man’s appearance isn’t really abrupt; he’s just here for his wife and son. Why does Chen Fei think he’s problematic?”
Xie Tingsheng, resting in a chair with his arm around her waist, opened his eyes and said calmly, “His timing is too coincidental. I just dealt with that group yesterday, and they clearly had backing, possibly someone behind them. There might be a connection between the two. Since Chen Fei suspects the man is problematic, I’ll have someone investigate him too.”
“Alright,” Hua Diao nodded, not objecting.
In the novel, this man never returned to find Jiang’s mother or his biological son!
Thinking about it, it did seem a bit suspicious.
Besides, she was quite interested in the melodramatic affairs of the protagonists’ family. If they could uncover something about this man, great. If not, it would still be entertaining to watch.
Meanwhile, at the Jiang household…
Lin Guangmei and Jiang Yu stared eagerly at Brother Biao. Jiang Yu’s eyes gleamed as he burst into tears. “Dad, why did it take you so long to find me? I’m starving!”
Brother Biao did have some affection for his biological son. Seeing how thin he had become, a flicker of heartache crossed his eyes before he said helplessly, “I couldn’t help it. After the apocalypse, I was in another city. The monster tide never ceased, so I couldn’t return. It was only a few days ago, when the monster tide finally stabilized, that I managed to rush back to Qingcheng.”
“I’ll get you some food. You two, mother and son, eat quickly.”
With that, he pulled out several loaves of bread from his spatial item and handed them over. At that moment, Lin Guangmei and Jiang Yu paid attention to nothing else; their eyes were fixed on the bread. They quickly snatched it, tore open the packaging, and began to devour it ravenously.
Only after they had eaten their fill did Brother Biao nonchalantly ask, “I heard Little Yu’s leg was shot by a girl upstairs early in the apocalypse. Who lives up there? How could they be so brazen?”
Upon hearing this, both mother and son’s expressions instantly darkened.
Jiang Yu’s eyes were shadowed with malice as he gritted his teeth. “Hmph, that little bitch is incredibly capable. She and her man have even become big shots in the community, very popular. Dad, are you strong? Will you avenge me?”
Jiang Yu’s gaze burned with undisguised malice and viciousness.
