Chapter 11 Omega Code of Conduct

After tucking the teenager in, Lin Juangui left the room.

He looked quite disheveled, his clothes largely soaked with tears. According to his usual routine, he should have been asleep by now, but Huo Zeshen’s sudden appearance had left Lin Juangui restless and wide awake.

A servant was on duty in the corridor. Lin Juangui asked them to fetch him a change of clothes, and the servant nodded in agreement.

While Lin Juangui waited, Butler Yang suddenly approached him, saying that Mr. Mu had called for him.

Lin Juangui knew that for Mu Zhang, this was also a sleepless night. He nodded without surprise and said, "Alright." Just then, the servant returned with the clothes.

"What happened to you?" Butler Yang asked, looking puzzled at Lin Juangui's damp clothes.

Lin Juangui smiled faintly. "A child had a nightmare earlier. I comforted him."

Butler Yang seemed to hesitate, as if he wanted to say something to Lin Juangui. But remembering that Lin Juangui was known for his kind-hearted nature as an Omega, he swallowed his words and instead urged Lin Juangui to change his clothes first.

"Mr. Mu is in a hurry. Please go quickly."

Had something happened? Although Mu Zhang and Lin Juangui were newlyweds, they were not close. What could he want from him so late at night?

Lin Juangui changed quickly. The servant had brought him a white shirt, which made his skin appear even fairer.

When he arrived at a bedroom door, Lin Juangui saw Mu Zhang frowning impatiently.

Mu Zhang had been leaning silently against the corridor wall, his low spirits making him look dejected. When he saw Lin Juangui approach, the Alpha raised his eyes slightly and asked sharply what had taken him so long.

Butler Yang quickly explained that Lin Juangui had accidentally gotten his clothes wet and had to change, hence the delay.

"Go inside and release your soothing pheromones."

Lin Juangui glanced at the family doctor standing beside Mu Zhang, who smiled awkwardly and explained, "General Mu overused his gland energy, causing gland damage and loss of control over his pheromones. There are no other Omegas in this villa, so Mr. Mu thought of you..."

He had expected Lin Juangui to throw a tantrum or complain to Mu Zhang about using his pheromones to comfort another Omega. To his surprise, Lin Juangui calmly said, "Alright," and asked, "Are there any details I should pay attention to? I’m glad to help if I can."

The family doctor was taken aback for a moment before replying with a pleasantly surprised smile, "During the process of releasing pheromones, you need to remain as calm or cheerful as possible. This will help the Alpha’s gland recover most effectively."

"Understood." Before pushing the door open, Lin Juangui remembered that he wasn’t in the best mood. He turned to Butler Yang and said, "Please find me a book—anything will do. I need something to distract myself."

    "Right away."

Mu Zhang stood by idly, his expression still grim. He felt powerless and frustrated at being unable to help Mu Yuanqing. When he heard Lin Juangui say he needed a book to distract himself, he sneered, "What, are you scared?"

Omegas were so fragile and useless, crying and trembling at the sight of a little insectoid blood.

A faint smile tugged at Lin Juangui’s lips. "Perhaps."

Mu Zhang’s smile was disdainful. In front of Lin Juangui, he shed his usual elegance and composure, acting more like a child unable to hide his emotions.

The disdain this man held for Omegas was bone-deep. Lin Juangui had mentioned it many times before.

But Lin Juangui found the protagonist’s hypocrisy strangely familiar.

He spoke contemptuously of Omegas, yet physiologically he couldn’t do without them, relying on Omega pheromones to maintain rationality in daily life. This hypocrisy reminded Lin Juangui of certain people he had met before, such as Zhou Yi, who was spoiled, unruly, and had a young master's temper.

Butler Yang quickly returned with a book. Lin Juangui took it, nodded in thanks, and turned to push open the bedroom door.

Mu Yuanqing lay on the bed, weak and haggard, his cheeks and lips deathly pale. Anyone who didn’t know better might think he had already passed away.

The room was filled with the scent of Alpha pheromones, reminiscent of white fir. Lin Juangui didn’t mind the smell; on the contrary, he found the woody fragrance quite calming.

Following the doctor’s earlier instructions, he injected himself with an inhibitor before sitting on the sofa and slowly releasing his own pheromones.

Staying cheerful wasn’t easy, especially after the shock Lin Juangui had just experienced.

During the time Huo Zeshen had disappeared at sea, Lin Juangui had seen many psychologists. He had used their techniques repeatedly to temporarily detach from his emotions.

Lin Juangui treated releasing pheromones as a job. Since the client had assigned the task, he had to do his best to satisfy them.

The book Butler Yang had brought Lin Juangui was titled "Omega Code of Conduct." Lin Juangui raised an eyebrow, wondering how Butler Yang had managed to find such a bizarre thing in such a short time.

He couldn’t help but laugh after flipping through just two pages. The book was exceptionally effective at amusing him, and it indeed made him feel amused.

Since learning about some of the rules of this world from Lin Juangui, he had felt an indescribable sense of dissonance. Although technology had evolved to an indescribable level, the constraints and requirements regarding gender were strict enough to warrant a code of conduct.

Respecting elders is a moral requirement for everyone, but this code of conduct stated that Omegas have an obligation to care for their partner's parents, and to serve their partner and children.

They should treat the Alpha as the head of the family. No matter what happens, they must first ask for the Alpha's opinion. When communicating, they must listen patiently and consider the Alpha's self-esteem and feelings.

They should take the initiative to do housework, remember holidays and family members' birthdays, and prepare gifts in advance to ensure family harmony.

When Lin Juangui saw how an Omega should please an Alpha in bed and prepare for pregnancy, he put the book aside.

He really didn't expect to see these things after the Qing dynasty had fallen.

The premise of a harmonious relationship between partners is that both parties are willing to contribute. Only when there is mutual giving will the giver feel that they are not performing a monologue.

One-sided giving not only goes unappreciated, but will also make those who are ungrateful think that these are things that people are born to do.

Lin Juangui suddenly thought of a long time ago.

He was a workaholic, rarely rested, let alone had weekends.

Lin Juangui traveled very frequently, sometimes even abroad. This situation only improved a little after being with Huo Zeshen. Lin Juangui was willing to put down his work and spend more time with Huo Zeshen.

The most fundamental reason why Lin Juangui did this was that once when he was on a business trip, Huo Zeshen called Lin Juangui and asked if he was busy. Lin Juangui said it was okay, he had just finished arranging the things in his hand.

Huo Zeshen smiled and asked Lin Juangui to send him his current location.

    "You..."

"I'm in City Y now, you don't want me to freeze at the airport, do you?"

Lin Juangui never expected that Huo Zeshen would come to his city to see him the next day after he had told him he was in City Y yesterday.

After sending a car to pick up Huo Zeshen without delay, Huo Zeshen got out of the car and hugged Lin Juangui tightly.

The man's strong arms tightly hugged Lin Juangui's slender waist, and then rubbed Lin Juangui's shoulder with his chin. Lin Juangui also reached out and hugged Huo Zeshen back.

"I miss you so much, it's been too long, video calls are useless. I have two days off today and tomorrow, I can't wait, I must come and hug you to feel at ease."

The feeling of being cared for is so beautiful. Lin Juangui took a deep breath and closed his eyes, just wanting to indulge in the joy of this meeting for a little longer.

The snow falling thick and fast of winter was no longer a lonely coldness for Lin Juangui. Now he had the embrace of his lover, and his heart was as warm as a hot spring breaking through the ice.

But Lin Juangui's happiness was short-lived, as Huo Zeshen said he had already booked a return flight and could only stay with him for a few more hours.

"I have a surgery scheduled the day after tomorrow, and you're busy with work too. I won't keep you long."

After saying this, he took off his coat and put it over Lin Juangui's suit. "It's so cold here, and you’re dressed too lightly."

Lin Juangui shook his head with a smile. "I’m not cold. I’m wearing a thick base layer, and it's warm inside."

He took Huo Zeshen’s hand and walked with him into the hotel, making up his mind right then.

Being too busy with work was no way to have a relationship. Since he was already financially independent, he was willing to make compromises for this precious relationship.

Huo Zeshen, in turn, never let Lin Juangui's efforts go to waste. Their relationship was close and lasted for five years. If not for an unexpected incident, they might have continued to cherish each other.

Lin Juangui still remembered how, before leaving, Huo Zeshen bought him a thick down jacket at an airport shop so he wouldn't worry. Before parting, Huo Zeshen even stole a kiss and said goodbye with a smile.

To Lin Juangui, this relationship was healthy and positive, which was why he felt a hard-to-shake-off dull ache when Huo Zeshen went missing.

Nobody who'd had something that good could just get over it.

It hurt so much that Lin Juangui refused to believe Huo Zeshen was truly gone. He needed to see proof for himself before he could accept it.

Before he knew it, Lin Juangui had already spent two hours in the room.

A doctor quietly entered to check on Mu Yuanqing’s condition and nodded to Lin Juangui, indicating that everything was fine.

When leaving the room, Lin Juangui appeared exhausted. Thoughts of Huo Zeshen always brought him both happiness and sorrow, these feelings he couldn't control often left him at war with himself.

Mu Zhang, who had been waiting outside, seemed displeased with Lin Juangui’s state. He stepped forward and asked if Lin Juangui had failed to follow the doctor’s advice to stay cheerful.

Lin Juangui remained silent, as if unwilling to argue over something so trivial. After a moment, he finally said, "I’ve done my best."

"Your best? It seems you’ve completely ignored my words!"

When the doctor came out, he saw the newlywed AO in the midst of a disagreement.

Cautiously, he reported to Mu Zhang, "The Omega’s pheromones have taken effect. General Mu is recovering well, and his gland energy is functioning normally."

    "..."

Mu Zhang fell silent. Lin Juangui didn’t expect an apology from him and simply raised his eyes slightly, saying, "I need to go to sleep."

Omegas have delicate constitutions, and it was already late at night, nearing dawn.

Butler Yang stepped forward perceptively. "Let me see you back."

Once Lin Juangui’s figure disappeared down the corridor, Mu Zhang eagerly pushed the door open and entered the room.

Seeing that Mu Yuanqing’s brow had smoothed out, Mu Zhang finally breathed a sigh of relief, feeling thankful as if they had narrowly escaped disaster.

"As long as you’re safe, nothing else matters."

Mu Zhang, can you afford to be an ungrateful critter?
