Chapter 17 Reborn: I’m an Omega Pregnant in a Book
byChapter 17: Reborn – I’m Pregnant as an Omega in a Book
When Yu Wei belatedly realized he had been insulted, he and the medical report had already been kicked out by the doctor. The doctor led the next patient into the office and closed the door in his face, and Yu Wei vaguely heard the doctor say, “Pregnancy brain, in full effect.”
People nearby shot him curious looks.
Yu Wei glared at the closed office door in frustration and muttered, “Quack doctor,” before stuffing the report into his pocket and leaving.
He found a planter near the hospital and sat on the edge. The cold outside was biting, the wind harsh against his face, stinging and numbing his face. Yu Wei tightened his coat, burying half his face in the collar, and pulled the crumpled medical report from his pocket to unfold it.
Name, gender, ID number, and phone number—all correct.
The likelihood he’d grabbed the wrong report was almost zero.
Yu Wei’s eyes landed on the English line under the gender column the doctor had pointed to.
Omega, Alpha, Beta—he had heard these words at least a dozen times since arriving in this world. At first, he figured they were just showing off by throwing English into their speech. Later he thought they sounded like physics symbols, but he didn't think much of it.
But now…
Yu Wei took a deep breath of cold air, unlocked his phone, and opened the search engine. He typed “Omega” and the results almost made him pass out.
Omega. The opposite of Alpha and Beta. A secondary gender that appears during puberty.
Secondary gender. Every word was familiar, but put together they made no sense to him. In his previous life, he had lived for twenty-five years, and from birth to death, gender was only male or female. This belief was deeply ingrained in him, and he couldn’t accept the concept of a secondary gender.
Yu Wei then searched for Alpha and Beta. The results were pretty much the same—depressing. He sat there for half an hour, hands frozen, before finally putting his phone away, staring blankly at the ground.
Primary genders—male and female—are determined at birth, while secondary genders—Omega, Alpha, Beta—only kick in during puberty. Among them, Omega and Alpha differentiation was most directly manifested by the development of a gland at the back of the neck. This gland released pheromones, also known as external pheromones. Omega and Alpha had a keen sense of smell and could detect pheromones.
No wonder he could smell various scents on others. He had assumed people in this world were fancy, with both men and women wearing perfume.
Not only did Omegas have glands, but they also had a reproductive cavity, making them easy to get pregnant. Alphas could easily get Omegas pregnant.
So, his secondary gender was Omega—highly fertile.
Yu Wei closed his eyes, and the cold wind hitting his face made him shiver all over.
He was a man, and if his guess was correct, he was pregnant.
This was too absurd.
Suddenly, the phone in his pocket rang. Yu Wei didn’t want to answer, so he pretended not to hear it.
After about thirty seconds, it hung up automatically.
Half a minute later, it rang again.
Now the ringing was really annoying. Yu Wei reached into his pocket, hung up the call, and continued staring blankly.
He hung up five or six times, but the caller kept dialing relentlessly, as if they’d keep calling until he picked up.
Expressionless, Yu Wei took out his phone and saw that all the calls were from Shi Ciyan.
Even less inclined to answer, he hung up.
If he really was pregnant, the baby was Shi Ciyan’s.
Shi Ciyan was the protagonist. How could he be carrying the protagonist’s child?
As soon as Yu Wei hung up, Shi Ciyan called again.
After six more tries, Yu Wei finally picked up, holding the phone to his ear without speaking.
“Yuwei, where are you? I didn’t see you at the company.”
Yu Wei’s face was flushed with cold. He sniffled, his voice a little muffled. “Don’t you have classes all day? I thought you weren’t coming in.”
Shi Ciyan paused for two seconds, then said, “I swapped classes, so I came in the afternoon.”
Yu Wei, distracted by the thought that the child might be Shi Ciyan’s, made up a lie. “Oh, I’m at home. I’m not going to the company today.”
He hesitated, recalling what he’d just looked up online, and asked, “Shi Ciyan, are you an Alpha?”
The other end was quiet for almost a minute. “Yes. Didn’t you smell my pheromones, Yuwei?”
He had. Last time it rained, Yu Wei let Shi Ciyan crash for the night. His pheromones had lingered in every corner of the house. Yu Wei didn’t mind it—he actually kind of liked the clean scent. At the time, he thought it was body wash or laundry detergent. After Shi Ciyan left, he tore the house apart looking for a soap that smelled like it but couldn’t find any, so he figured it must be cologne.
Turns out they were all pheromones.
“What about Lin Yuchi? Is he also an Alpha?”
Yu Wei got a yes and was stunned for a long time. This world wasn’t about same-sex marriage at all. In terms of secondary gender, he wasn’t the same as Yu Song or Shi Ciyan.
Both Shi Ciyan and Lin Yuchi were Alphas—same secondary gender. So they were gay in this world, and gay relationships were still niche. No wonder his colleagues said they’d defied societal norms. For example, with pheromones, two Alphas’ pheromones repel each other like opposite poles of a magnet—that was even tougher than being gay in his old world, where gender was only male or female.
Yu Wei hung up the call, tore the report into pieces, threw them into the trash, and drove to another hospital.
What if that hospital had messed up?
He booked an appointment at OB/GYN.
At the entrance of the OB/GYN waiting area, the benches were full of men and women with big pregnant bellies. Even though he had mentally prepared himself before coming, seeing a man with a huge belly in person was still a shock.
But Yu Wei noticed they all came in pairs, while he was alone.
Feeling a bit awkward, he walked over to an empty spot on the bench and leaned back against the cold tile wall, unable to resist glancing at the belly of a male patient sitting on the bench.
That belly was huge.
Even though he had prepared himself, he had never seen a man carrying such a huge belly. He couldn't help sneaking a few curious glances. Maybe because he stared too often, the next time he looked over, he met a pair of eyes that were smiling.
Yu Wei’s heart fluttered in panic. He quickly looked away, fidgeting his fingers until the tips went white.
“I’m pretty far along. Due in about two weeks,” the man suddenly said. “What about you? You haven't popped yet—probably just a few months?”
Yu Wei forced a laugh. “Haha, good for you. I’m just here to check. Probably not pregnant.”
The man nodded. “If you haven't hit a heat cycle, odds are you're pregnant. Good luck.”
Yu Wei was stunned. “Heat cycle?”
What was that? He'd done his research, had he missed something?
Now, Yu Wei paid extra attention to every word he didn’t understand from this world’s people. He immediately pulled out his phone to search.
Omegas entered a regular heat cycle each month, while Alphas had a rut period.
During this time, an Omega’s pheromones would go out of control, their body’s sensitivity would multiply, and they would experience a strong urge for sexual activity, manifested as an intense craving for an Alpha’s reassurance.
Alphas become emotionally volatile and lose control of their pheromones during their rut, and they also require Omega comfort.
Yu Wei shook his dizzy head, and the more he looked around, the colder his heart grew. It seemed he hadn't entered his heat period since arriving in this world.
No, wait...
On the first day of school at Nanjing University, when he took Yu Song to his dorm, he had smelled alcohol in the air, especially concentrated in his dorm room. That day, he had been groggy and confused, waking up in the hospital ward thinking it was low blood sugar—could it have been his heat period?
But Baidu clearly stated that heat periods last at least three days, yet he had passed out at noon and woken up by afternoon that day.
Could it have been the day of the bar fire?
Had Lin Zerui and Lecher not spiked his drinks when they forced him to drink?
The more he thought about it, the more plausible it seemed.
"You look pale. Want to sit down?" The boy beside him noticed his pale, trembling appearance and stood up worriedly. The tall woman next to him quickly steadied him, frowning, "Take it slow when you get up—it's too dangerous."
She said to the boy, "Get up and give him your seat."
A man and a woman, yet it was the man who was pregnant.
Yu Wei had discovered too many bizarre things today. Seeing them didn't faze him much; he waved his hand, refusing, "I'm fine, thank you."
Yu Wei suddenly realized his ability to accept strange things was terrifyingly strong. In just one afternoon, he had come to terms with so many absurdities.
He was here, so he might as well roll with it.
Yu Wei had barely calmed down when a familiar voice came from the side.
"Brother Yuwei, what are you doing here?"
Hearing his name, Yu Wei instinctively looked up toward the voice and saw Qiu Lei holding the hand of a man half a head shorter than Qiu Lei, approaching him.
Yu Wei's heart pounded nervously.
He had never expected to run into an acquaintance here.
Not knowing how to respond, Yu Wei stammered, "Shouldn't you be in class right now? What are you doing here?"
Qiu Lei glanced shyly at the man who was visibly pregnant, "I took leave to accompany him for his prenatal checkup."
The man next to Qiu Lei was the same person Yu Wei had seen in his phone wallpaper before. Back then, Yu Wei had thought something was off, but he made excuses, thinking the person was a woman with short hair.
If he had asked further that day, he wouldn't have only found out about these things now, and he wouldn't be here.
Yu Wei's lips twitched into a bitter smile. He said, as if to himself, "Oh, you guys rescheduled your classes. No classes in the afternoon."
Qiu Lei looked puzzled, "No rescheduling. We have full classes this afternoon."
"No rescheduling?" Yu Wei blinked. Hadn't Shi Ciyan said classes were rescheduled so he could go to the company?
Had he cut class to go to the company instead?
The topic shifted, and Qiu Lei stopped pressing him on why he was at the OB/GYN clinic. After a few more words, Qiu Lei said he had only asked for one class period off and needed to get back to class, then took the man beside him and left.
Yu Wei breathed a sigh of relief, pulled out his phone, and called his secretary.
As soon as the call connected, he asked directly, "Is Shi Ciyan at the company?"
The secretary asked around and confirmed Shi Ciyan hadn't come in today before reporting back.
Shi Ciyan hadn't gone to the company today, so how had he known that Yu Wei wasn't at the company that day?
Had someone else at the company told him?
Why would Shi Ciyan lie to him? Yu Wei had almost thought Shi Ciyan had skipped class to go to the office.
The crowd outside the OB/GYN gradually thinned. Yu Wei waited over an hour before it was his turn.
He went in. There was only a female doctor inside, who glanced back at him, confirmed his identity, and asked, "How many months?"
Yu Wei shook his head, "I don't know."
"When was your last time having sex?"
Yu Wei: "Two months ago."
The doctor didn't even look up, "Come with a full bladder?"
Yu Wei didn't know that an abdominal ultrasound required a full bladder. "No."
"For an abdominal ultrasound, you need to have a full bladder, and if you're not three months along, the fetus is too small to see clearly with that method. We'll have to do a transrectal ultrasound. Take your pants off."
Author's note: Under normal circumstances, the equipment for abdominal ultrasounds, Y-ultrasounds and G-ultrasounds should be different and would not be performed in the same room.
