Chapter 38 I Can Marry into Your Family
byChapter 38: I Can Marry Into Your Family
The living room air seemed to freeze, and for a moment, no one spoke except for An'an calling "Daddy!"
After a long moment, Bai Sijia was the first to react, her expression darkening. "Has An'an met him before?"
She knew An'an wasn't shy around strangers, but she'd never heard him just call anyone "Dad" out of nowhere. Someone must have taught him.
Yu Wei's lips parted. "Mom, I..."
Before he could finish, Shi Ciyan cut in, speaking to Bai Sijia. "Auntie, I'm sorry. I will take responsibility for Brother Yuwei and the child."
Bai Sijia was so angry she laughed, then turned to Yu Wei. "Is the child his?"
Yu Wei hesitated, trying to organize his words, but Bai Sijia raised her hand to stop him. "No need to explain. Yu Song, what are you standing there dumbfounded for? Weren't you just itching for a fight?"
Yu Song was stunned for a second, then it clicked. He sprang up from the sofa and lunged at Shi Ciyan. This time, no one stopped him, and he aimed straight for Shi Ciyan's face.
"My son and my grandson—do they need you to take responsibility?" Bai Sijia grabbed a book from somewhere and swung it at Shi Ciyan, joining the melee.
Yu An watched the scene and burst out crying in fear.
Yu Wei held An'an in his arms, unable to intervene and afraid to get too close in case the child got hurt. He could only shout from about a foot and a half away, "Stop fighting! Please, stop!"
Bai Sijia and Yu Song were too angry to even hear him.
"What are you doing?"
Yu Cheng's voice came from upstairs. He had already changed into his loungewear and stared wide-eyed at the two-on-one fight in the living room. He quickly came over, pulled Yu Song away, saw Shi Ciyan's battered face, then looked at his son and wife. "What are you doing?"
Bai Sijia stopped, her chest heaving, exhausted. She caught her breath, brushed back her disheveled hair, and said, "This guy knocked up your eldest son."
Yu Cheng automatically looked at Yu Wei. "Really?"
"Let me explain..."
Yu Song tried to talk his way out of it, but Yu Cheng cut him off. "Just answer me: is it true or not?"
Shi Ciyan wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth and answered faster than Yu Wei. "It's true."
Yu Wei: "..."
Yu Cheng released Yu Song and began rolling up his sleeves.
Yu Wei's vision went dark, and his head throbbed. This is the recklessness of youth.
Even if Yu Song was a good fighter, he was smaller, and Shi Ciyan only ended up with a few scratches and a bruised face.
But Yu Cheng was tall and muscular, with a solid build. With one punch, he could knock Shi Ciyan's head clean off. If he got involved, Shi Ciyan would be carried out on a stretcher.
Yu Wei took a deep breath and stepped in to block them. "Everyone, calm down. Don't scare An'an."
"You take An'an back to the bedroom," Yu Cheng said, his eyes softening slightly at the sight of An'an, but his voice remained icy. "You don't need to be here. When dinner's ready, we'll call you."
Yu An was crying even louder, but Yu Wei dared not leave. If he actually went into the bedroom now, he'd come out to find them having to handle a dead body.
Shi Ciyan was the center of this mess; he really couldn't be beaten to a pulp.
"Mom, Dad, don't blame him." Yu Wei closed his eyes and said, "I did it because I wanted to. So don't hit him. If you hit him, An'an will cry, and it'll break my heart."
Yu Song: "..."
Bai Sijia & Yu Cheng: "???"
"A grown son just won't stay put!" Bai Sijia threw the thick medical book onto the sofa with a sigh.
She went to the bathroom to fix her hair and makeup, then emerged again, looking every bit the elegant, demure lady.
"Come sit over here." Bai Sijia called Shi Ciyan over in a warm voice. "I want to ask you something."
Yu Cheng and Yu Song sat on the side, simmering in silence.
Bai Sijia shot a glance at Yu Wei. "When did you two meet?"
Shi Ciyan answered her every question honestly.
Bai Sijia even did a full background check, digging into Shi Ciyan's family history. As she listened, her frown gradually softened.
No parents, no mother-in-law drama. She thought for a moment, recalling what Yu Song had said last time, and her eyes lit up. "Can you move in with us after you get married?"
"Mom, what are you saying?" Yu Wei's eyes widened in disbelief. How did we go from background checks to marriage?
"As long as I can be with Brother Yuwei, I'll do anything." Shi Ciyan looked shyly at Yu Wei. "Moving in with you guys is totally fine."
Yu Wei: "..."
"Good. After you two get married, you can live with us. That way, it'll be convenient for us to take care of Weiwei and An'an."
Shi Ciyan answered readily, "Whatever you say."
As the person directly involved, Yu Wei sat there dumbstruck. "Wait, wait. How did we even get to marriage and moving in? Who agreed to this?"
Weren't they just fighting a second ago? How had they suddenly started discussing wedding plans?
Bai Sijia finally acknowledged him, giving him a cold stare. "What? You don't want him to move in?"
"No, I never even thought about marrying him." Yu Wei explained, "I'll never get married in my life."
Bai Sijia looked confused. "You two love each other, and you have a child. Why wouldn't you marry?"
Yu Wei realized that in his desperate attempt to keep Shi Ciyan from getting beaten, he had been spouting nonsense, and Bai Sijia had actually believed it.
"Mom, we're not actually in love." Yu Wei lowered his head, not daring to meet her eyes. "I used to have a crush on him, but not anymore. I don't want to marry him."
Hearing this, Shi Ciyan got upset. "Brother Yuwei, when did you start liking me, and when did that stop? Whatever you don't like about me, I can change. Please don't leave me."
Yu Wei was at a loss for words. He had only said that to stop him from getting beaten, and now Shi Ciyan was taking it seriously too.
"Mom, go ahead and have lunch first." Yu Wei handed An'an to Yu Song and grabbed Shi Ciyan, heading toward the bedroom. "I have something to talk with him about."
Yu Wei returned to the bedroom, closed the door, turned and looked at Shi Ciyan's face.
"Brother Yuwei, my face hurts so much." Shi Ciyan pointed at his bruises with a pitiful look. "Yu Song really hit hard. If I get scars, will Brother Yuwei still like me?"
Yu Wei gave him a cold look. "I never had any feelings for you."
Shi Ciyan snorted, "I don't buy it."
"I was lying to Mom and Dad just now. If I hadn't said that, they'd have to haul you off in an ambulance today." Yu Wei shrugged helplessly. "I really don't like you, and we'll never get married. I've told you this many times."
With each word he said, Shi Ciyan's gaze grew deeper, and the aggrieved expression on his face faded. "Yes, you've said it many times. But Brother Yuwei, I won't let go. Unless you go out now and tell your father that I forced myself on you, and let him come in and beat me to death, then I'll believe you don't like me."
Yu Wei gave him an indescribable look. "Are you out of your mind?"
Shi Ciyan stared at him intently. "You can't stand to see me get hit, can you?"
Yu Wei felt that he had a communication barrier with Shi Ciyan. No matter what he said, Shi Ciyan simply refused to believe that he didn't like him.
It seemed that no matter how he rejected him, he wouldn't give up.
If he weren't the protagonist, Yu Wei might consider it. But there is no if. No matter how persistent Shi Ciyan was, there would be no result.
What a headache.
"Think whatever you want. Anyway, we're never gonna happen. Shi Ciyan, when you come out later, find an excuse to leave on your own." Yu Wei walked to the door and added before leaving, "Shi Ciyan, go back to college and graduate. You'll meet different people in college, and maybe you'll find that what you like isn't necessarily an Omega."
This time, Shi Ciyan didn't act up. He obediently said goodbye to Bai Sijia and Yu Cheng and left.
Yu Cheng had booked a hotel private room in the morning. When they arrived in the afternoon, the room was already decorated with plenty of flowers and balloons, and there were staff in mascot costumes acting as the vibe squad, making Yu An laugh nonstop.
The birthday was clearly lively and happy, but Yu Wei felt a strange emptiness inside. Even the usually boisterous Yu Song today was unusually quiet.
Yu Wei asked him several times, but Yu Song simply ignored him, his face screamed "I'm mad."
Yu Wei thought about it and figured he was angry because of his and Shi Ciyan's matter.
He thought that he would cool off after a few days, but to his surprise, he wore a scowl for a whole week.
During that week, Shi Ciyan didn't come to bother him, but he kept sending annoying messages. Yu Wei couldn't respond to him, so he could only ice him out.
He rested at home for three or four days. Apart from teaching An'an to walk, he had nothing else to do, and life was pretty sweet.
But most of his luggage was still abroad. Yu Wei first sent a message to Ling Heyu, asking when he would be free.
Ling Heyu was usually busy and only had weekends off.
Yu Wei thought it over and bought a ticket for Saturday afternoon, arriving in Country D that evening.
This time, he didn't want to bother Ling Heyu, but as soon as Ling Heyu heard he was coming, he insisted on picking him up.
Last time he came to pick him up, he brought a band to welcome him as he went abroad. This time, he stood alone at the exit waiting for him.
Although only a week had passed, Yu Wei still felt that Ling Heyu had changed.
The most obvious thing was that he had become a bit quiet, not as noisy as before.
First Yu Song, now Ling Heyu.
Yu Song was angry because he hid the matter about Shi Ciyan from him, so he didn't want to talk to him. What about Ling Heyu?
When they got home in the evening, Ling Heyu personally cooked him a bowl of noodles.
Same as last time.
The two sat facing each other at the dining table, eating noodles and chatting. Although Ling Heyu was a bit quiet, the conversation went fairly well.
After finishing the bowl of noodles, the tiredness from hours of flying melted away.
"You're not coming back, are you?" Ling Heyu suddenly asked him as they chatted.
"Right, I'll pack up tomorrow and leave the day after." Yu Wei stretched his arms. "I purposely picked to come on your day off. Tomorrow we'll grab a bite. My treat, as a thank you for you taking care of me all this time."
Ling Heyu was silent for a long moment. "Yu Wei..."
His tone was even, yet Yu Wei inexplicably felt that he had something to say, and that he might not want to hear it.
But Yu Wei still responded, "What's wrong?"
Ling Heyu didn't speak again.
"What's up with you? Why are you hemming and hawing? Just spit it out." Yu Wei gently nudged his shoulder with his own and laughed. "Did someone swap bodies with you?"
Ling Heyu let out a heavy sigh. He got up, took two bottles of wine from the liquor cabinet, and turned around to ask, "Yu Wei, I want to have a drink. You want some?"
Yu Wei had an average tolerance for alcohol and didn't usually drink much, but Ling Heyu seemed to be in a bad mood right now. As a friend, it's no big deal to have a couple of drinks with him.
"Get me a glass too. If you want to drink, I'll drink with you."
